You know that he hasn't had an interview with us because we don't want to talk contracts until Beveridge can talk to him right? It's an hour or two out of his day, it's not like he has to travel out to Geelong or interstate.

It also seems that the Dogs are unwilling to pay him what he wants. Why would he bother if that's the case and he has other clubs that are willing to?

He has what is reported to be a 5 year contract on between $700-800k a year on offer from the Saints plus a deal from Carlton. He's already had interviews with both of them and Quayle has reported today that he's doing more interviews and a medical with the Saints over the next few days. Why didn't the Saints or Carlton have trouble getting an interview with him at the start? Probably because they were willing or able to give an indication that it would be worth his time.

Clubs have more than enough information on players to come up with a basic initial offer. They would have done interviews in their draft year, seen them play since then, and would generally have one or more people working in the club that has worked with the player on some level. This whole thing screams that the Dogs can't match the money that Carlisle wants and are hoping to woo him in an interview so that he accepts less money. His manager isn't budging on the money and now the Dogs are whinging about it.

He was touch and go to get picked last week so as long as he kept his conditioning up he'll probably be OK.

Picked up the Record for tomorrow, I now know Peter Siddle barracks for the Roos.

The odds have Hawthorn 60% to West Coast 40% (1.60 vs 2.40) which feels about right to me. Emphasis on feel - I haven't touched my statto madness in a few weeks.

I should point out that West Coast are closer in to where Hawthorn were at in 2008 (which was about 3.00 or something) and at least some people should be tipping them because of factors like fresher legs, better in the ruck and arguably the forward line, etc.

Depends on other factors. Maybe I'm unhappy with my $50/hr job, maybe the other place can offer other things. Clearly these thoughts aren't crossing his mind and he is focused only on the money side of things which should be warning signs for any club that wants to sign him. But I'm not sure why you're so protective over how Carlilse spends 2hrs of his afternoon. It would take less time that it would to play a game of footy. The absolute worst that can happen to him is that he wastes 2hrs and if he isn't prepared to risk that then I'd be worried about offering him anything.

I've got a pocket full of cheese🧀, and a garden full of trees🌴.

My hype levels have been vacillating over the GF this year. In previous years I have been excited and fully hyped for the opportunity to head into an expat bar and yell at the TV, confusing the locals and Americans alike.

But this year the two hour train trip to the city seems like a chore, Back to Back to Back isn't as fun as it should be. Also I am wary of getting as drunk and boorish as I did last year.

I will still be going in to watch the game, (I mean it's the Grand Final, one of onlya few games of football that I get to watch with other people a year). But I don't think it will be as fun as it has been before.

And I blame Luke Hodge.

This. I don't see the problem with expecting a basic suggestion of contract length and weight before an interview. I doubt he expects a final offer, just an indication. Especially if he's already received that from other employers.

Like sure, not the classiest move in the world, but hardly exceptional.

I have a bunch of Eagle supporting friends since we met at work when the Perth office closed down and they moved to Melbourne years back so there's quite a few of them and they're all absolutely tripping balls excited. I'm a bit excited for them but man I wish my team wasn't such a piece of a poo poo so I could properly enjoy a grand final weekend of excitement now that I'm old enough to appreciate it.

Also totally realise that line of thinking applies to multiple clubs. But seeing my friend's excitement up close and that they're going to the game and all really makes me want to experience it. It's also probably this kick rear end weather too. That really helps. Permanent October GF imo.

I'm a very big fan and I've never once been to the parade in the 8 times my club has been involved in my lifetime. I can't imagine going 4 years in a row I'd be very over it.
