I've been giving this game a good long look since I like space sims and my bar is really low (I like No Mans Sky a whole lot) The only thing that's giving me pause is that there seems to be a lot of emphasis on EVE online-esque fuckery like ganking which I'm concerned about. I completed my first mission and was very proud of the 2k credits I received for data delivery Then I left the station and investigated a distress signal which was pirates and got blown up, thus ending the career of my first spaceman

I bought an Eagle which seems to be more capable than a Sidewinder in a fight but I'm really missing the cargo space.

Also I encountered a big battle between an Imperial and Federation ship and tried to help out the Federation forces by attacking the Imperial ship. I was actually damaging it and surviving until I got blown up almost instantly by the Federation cruiser I was helping because I wasn't authorized to be near it.  So I respawned and still had a mission to kill some local rebels. I managed to track some down in another one of those aforementioned battles and this time made sure just to target the smaller ships that were far away from the main battle. I began attacking a rebel ship and it turned around and owned me in the span of like 5 seconds. Then I abandoned the mission and went back to space trucking because I know when I'm out of my league.

Getting this bigger fuel tank and more powerful engine has really opened the game up for me. No longer is a 20 light year flight a harrowing experience requiring an oddball roundabout path and multiple fuel stops

My only real criticism of the game so far is that I wish that each system looked more distinct. At least change up the skybox every now and then, where are the awesome nebulas and planet varieties? For all of it's colossal glaring flaws No Man's Sky actually has this game beat in the "interesting things to look at" dimension

Different parts of the game have very different skybox, but it is dependent on actual location of nebulas. Not sure what you mean by planet varieties, there are a lot of them already. What are some good sightseeing locations?

If you mash your heatsink button right as you get "scan detected" it will break that scan before it finishes. You would think that popping heatsinks when entering a station would be really suspicious and someone looking out those windows flanking the envelope slot would say "yo that guy is suspicious and he's landing at pad 69"
