It's outside the central premise of what you're looking for, because Robot Big, but Dai-Guard has the giant robo actually be a big , slow, lumbering thing that obeys the laws of physics and needs to be a support team to deconstruct it and cart it around on trucks to get anywhere. Also a lot of the horrors of war capitalism.
