Ferremit posted:Pretty much. Only difference between the different models is presence of a locker and gear ratios. Toyota ran full floating axles front and back on the 40, 60, 80 and 105 series and then went the semi floating axles on the 100 and 200 series. I can at least broaden my search between LX450's and Land Cruisers FJZ80's. The more I look at Land Cruisers, the axles seem to share a ton of similarities to Land Rover axles, transfer cases, and the ladder frame, etc. Except they might be a tad more reliable and piddle slightly less oil. Thanks for the info.

I'm a big fan of my feel ultrasharps. The 23'' seem to go on sale periodically for around $200. On the music front, I get it. I play violin and viola. poo poo gets expensive. A set of strings for either is anywhere from $50 - $100 these days.

guitar (at least electric) is the worst if you wanna upgrade beyond babby's first amp and guitar you're looking at like $2k total just for decent hobby-level gear and then you can't even use most of the volume most of the time so it's a waste i'll go weeks without practicing because of loving school, then when I do pick it up i'll practice a few days in a row before my tone starts grating on me, i gently caress with the settings trying to find something that sounds good, then just piss off and do something else i mean at least strings are cheap but ffs

Music chat The main reason I want to get into a house is so that I can hit a drum again. Sometimes I'll pull out my practice pad and run through rudiments or dig through snare solos but I usually give up in frustration because I haven't played in so long my hands are retarded now. The last time I actually got to sit down at a kit my time was all over the place and my speed was probably half of what it was when I was playing every day. Let's not talk about costs associated with percussion. Previa_fun fucked around with this message at 18:51 on Oct 30, 2015 |

Pimper of meats: some people locally are somehow impressed with my awful detailing pictures and want to throw money at me. I think I should pick up a 5" backing plate and some 5.5" pads and restock up on some light polishes (only break out the UC if an area is really bad). I'm not going to touch the interior, what should I charge? $300?

Craigslist is a godsend for musicians. New gear is outrageously expensive and for the life of me, I can't figure out why anyone buys new gear. I got my full bass stack for under $900, including the bass itself. Gallien-Krueger 800RB, Mesa/Boogie 1x15 and 4x10, G&L SB2. Blammo, all off ebay and craigslist and it sounds just as good if not better than people with the latest-and-greatest from designer shops. It's the same stuff as audiophile nonsense as far as I'm concerned.

I've been playing 12 years and the most expensive one I have is $500, there's no need to spend a lot of money on something to get a good sound. You can find a guitar amp more than enough to practice at home with for $100 or less. 99% of these amps should let you plug headphones in if volume is an issue. i've got an ibanez gio i got off loving myspace classifieds for $100 and a crate V18 amp. hosed up thing about it is, the headphone jack doesn't shut the speaker off. you can unplug the speaker, but last time I did that it fried the drat circuit board, i'm talking arcing from the tubes. i guess my issue atm is that im unemplyed so $500 and $5k are equally unattainable for me. tbh tho my main thing is that i wanna play wiht other people but i have horrible social anxiety, plus most metalheads tend to be awful people of the sort i no longer want to be around. and all the postings around me are looking for SERIOUS MUSICIANS BEEN PLAYING 70 YEARS WHO CAN GIG EVERY SINGLE NIGHT, no dudes who just wanna chill and jam some metallica or w/e. playing at home alone only goes so far.

They're poorly constructed and sound awful. String instruments keep their value and depending on the maker, can appreciate in value. That said, you could spend $1k - 2k for decent student instrument and be okay for most situations. Unfortunately, I'm not normal and am getting an instrument made for me.

It really is cheating... it will work as a product of various abrasion levels, depending on how you lean on the machine. It is a good post-clay cleaner that can really do some correcting if you need it. That said, I've never done detailing professionally because I'd never be able to make money at it. If you can "know when to stop," $300 would be fair for a clay/UC/2-stage polish of your choosing, with wheel buff up and such.

Enourmo posted:"fried tube amp when disconnecting speaker" Yep, you got it, don't disconnect the speaker on an amplifier with a tube output section. Get or build a power soak out of resistors, plug this in instead of the speaker, live happily ever after. (alternatively, consider a muff for the front of the cabinet) I have very nearly furnished an entire project studio from craigslist. guitar, bass, bass amp, guitar amp, saxophones, cornet, trumpet, cello, drum set, microphones, limiters, mic stands, curtains, monitors, LCD monitors, power amp, headphone amp, etc. It took almost 12 years, but I have only got about ~%20 if it's value invested in it. Smug from the good deals helps to compensate for the anxiety over lack of talent.

I spent like 50 bucks on all of my monitors combined. Which is why I had to recap most of them and they are all ancient. I also don't give a gently caress, all I do is CAD work, web browsing, email, SSH (which requires a truly amazing range of colors and brightnesses) to servers, and occasionally watch a movie streamed over the internet.

Enourmo posted:guitar (at least electric) is the worst Yeah, acoustic is a completely different beast. I started on a cheap Yamaha but now I've got a low-mid range Taylor and the difference is astronomical in quality. Under $500 is generally for a beginner to see if they want to keep playing an acoustic, then move on to sub $1500 for a good acoustic that will last a while and sound and feel good. When I have the cash I can finally move onto the sub $5k professional range with Bourgeois and Thompson and other high end hand made guitars. Thompson makes pre war style dreadnoughts that sound and feel amazing. I never thought there was that big of a difference between my $1500 Taylor and the more expensive acoustics but after playing for 15 years I can tell the difference pretty quickly. I mean feel and sound from a player perspective, I doubt I could tell much difference just listening to them all.
