While we're tearing each other down and admitting our lives are hosed up, Phone, stop blaming EEs for something that Franklin got wrong centuries ago and we've been stuck with ever since, electrons being negative is essentially that nasty legacy code you can't gently caress with because you break everything.

Also I had a rough couple years from 2012-2014 but have mostly pulled out of it.
2008: got my first job, wasn't really what I wanted to do with my life but it paid the bills and was fun.
2009: got a GF, she was cool but it didn't work out and I was pretty torn up over it. Present-me thinks past-me was a fool.
2010-2011: bought a house and started fixing it up, got a new job that was supposed to be my dream job, ended up being a nightmare.
2012-2013: quit nightmare job and tried to run my own jeep wiring business, failed miserably, I am incapable of selling water to a man on fire.
2013: got my actual dream job, began rapidly paying off all overdue bills. First paycheck landed right after I got to work with not enough gas in my tank to drive home and $1.57 left to my name. Only made it that long because I did some side jobs welding stuff for AI goons. Thanks, Fart Pipe, I literally could not have made it to work for the last 3 days except for you basically forcing me to take $100 more than I quoted. I owe you one.
2014: Winter: met a girl, thought she was the one for the first time in five years, she turned out to be loving nuts and quite possibly bullshitting me about literally everything we talked about. Fall: got notice from the RMV that my license was being suspended for the large number of inspection tickets I received in the previous few years (yes, this is a thing. gently caress Massachusetts) and ended up moving into my parents spare bedroom and being dropped off at work like a goddamn highschool kid. Fixed all their cars and house in exchange. Everyone involved feels they got the good end of the deal, so that ended well.
2015: holy gently caress, life owns. It's been nothing but up since I got my license back in late 2014. House is in the best shape it's been in since I got it, met an amazing girl at an old friend's wedding and things have gone better than I ever thought possible. It's likely I'll have a heated house to live in this winter for the first time since 2010-2011, too. And I've gotten $20k in raises in two years.

In return I live on my own terms. If I want to throw a shovel through the bedroom window one day, I can. And have. Mostly because I needed to throw a thousand pounds of horsehair plaster out next and the drat window kept sliding down on me.

I swore off ATI video cards in 2006 and will never, ever, ever go back. Why? the drivers. I don't know how, but hydravision (which I had to install to make my dual monitor setup work at the time - and it only made things worse, it resulted in app crashes and completely hosed up video resolution/refresh rate settings every time I opened any video game, requiring me to learn how to open display properties and set it back to something sane entirely blind, using keyboard shortcuts) completely cratered my TCP/IP stack when I uninstalled it. Had to reinstall windows.

At that point I bought an nvidia card, reinstalled windows, and never went back. gently caress ATI. Maybe in another few years I'll give them a second chance, but only if they take the entire development team responsible for that monstrosity out in a public square, line them up, and shoot them.

deaths in 2015 so far, in thousands:
heart disease 468.5
cancer 452.9
tobacco 274.8
obesity 241.1
suicide 31
drunk driving 26.5
auto accidents 19 (in the first half of the year alone)
murder by gun 9
murder by other weapons 4
police shootings 1 (jan-oct) (this probably includes some of the "murder by gun" stat, and vise versa, since not all police shootings are ruled justifiable)
mass shooting 0.043
mass shooting using weapons banned by the 94 AWB: I haven't run the numbers yet, but typically about 1%, so let's call it ten percent to be charitable to those arguing against me and say 0.005 kilodeaths.
VW TDIs (per year, estimated) 20 (only this low because TDIs are rare in the US, probably more like hundreds in europe)

So you know what? gently caress off with your gun control rhetoric. It's a drop in the god damned bucket compared to any other cause of death, intentional, accidental, natural, or otherwise. You are more likely to win the god damned lottery than you are to get shot in the united states. You are more likely to die in a commercial airliner crash (average 1255 deaths per year over the last 16 years) than you are to be shot in a mass shooting in the united states, by two orders of magnitude.

The only reason this is even a loving debate is because some people are afraid of guns and want to ban them by any means, and people are bad at statistics and risk calculations, which is also the only reason some people won't fly and lots of people buy lottery tickets. You stand a higher risk of death driving home from work (sober) at 8PM on a Friday than you do from any sort of gun related crime. gently caress, this poo poo pisses me off because people are so goddamn bad at math and think banning inanimate objects solves a problem when the crime committed with them is already illegal.

Banning "assault weapons" or "high capacity magazines" or "scary black guns that make me afraid" (what the bans amount to) is every bit as effective in saving lives as banning the following list of vehicles:
Lamborghinis over 400hp (if equipped with black paint and chrome wheels, unless a manual transmission is also included)
Ferraris over 350hp (if painted black)
Porsches with more than one turbo or a water cooling system (unless they have more than two doors)
Subaru WRXes (if equipped with SMG, rollcage, and WRB paint)
Ford F350s (King Ranch edition w/ backup camera only, but only if it has a vanity license plate)

Yet a depressing number of you guys are alright with the idea of banning someone else's expensive toys, but would be up in arms in a second if there was any kind of a high performance vehicle ban. Paul Walker's blood is on your hands, bloodthirsty car nuts :arghfist:

And this will be my last post on the subject because guess what? It will change precisely zero loving opinions, math, logic, or reason aside, this is a ridiculous emotional argument. Zero, zilch, nada. So I'm done justifying a goddamn thing, gently caress you, you can take them from my cold dead hands, and half the country (crossing party lines - a surprising number of democrats own guns - including my liberal/socialist leaning girlfriend, who voted for Obama and is probably voting for Sanders this time around) agrees with me. If you want to ban guns be honest about your goddamn reasons ("they scare me! :ohdear:") instead of trotting it out every time some wackjob kills a bunch of people.

PS: I'm not a republican or a democrat, my political beliefs are closer to "string em all up from the highest tree we can find" than anything else. I don't really like the NRA, either. I don't even own any guns (yet) I just think it's a loving stupid argument, a waste of political capital, and quite frankly the math agrees with me.

We could save more lives by cutting even 1% of the F35 program (that'd net 13 billion dollars, FYI - enough to give over a million homeless people a $1k/mo 2 bedroom apartment to themselves) and using it to fund help for the homeless, work programs, etc, or by legalizing almost all drugs and ripping the revenue stream out from under the drug cartels and gangs operating in our cities, then using the tax revenue from letting people sell said drugs to fund proper rehab/addiction management programs. But that's crazy talk apparently because gently caress those dirty addicts and bums they don't deserve poo poo.

Wasting political capital on gun control when half the drat country disagrees is statistically the same as trying to balance the federal budget by cutting 5% of NASA and the food stamp program. Death stats wise, you're dicking around with extreme couponing to save pennies when the credit cards are maxed out and pissing off the whole line behind you at the grocery store, find something more effective to do that doesn't involve making GBS threads on the constitution.

The numbers are so goddamn low compared to the number of deaths by any cause per year and the number of people living in this country that they're below the statistical variance of natural causes deaths year over year.

I'm not wasting my time on self defense / conspiritard / reagan destroyed mental health / foreign invasion reasoning, because I don't want a headache from slogging through that bullshit trying to find statistics.

Could you spare a few?

Sure, once I catalogue what the hell I have here and figure out which ones plug into which. It seems like there's a LOT of W12-10 plugs and sockets and a few other ones that show up in volume, plus tons of weird one offs.

I don't even want to think about what this pile would cost new. It's probably into five figures.

The gently caress is "salt life" about anyways? I still haven't figure out what it even refers to.

Alright, looks like the exhaust leak on the Roadmaster is the slip fit junction at the cat inlet from the Y pipe. It's very loose and I can feel exhaust escaping at idle.

What saith AI, blast booger welds all over it and make future me hate myself for this when it needs a new Y pipe or cat, or muffler butter the gently caress out of it and slap a new U bolt on?

I am leaning towards the latter.

The later first, then if that doesn't work booger weld the gently caress out of it. That's assuming you can weld over/through muffler butter.
That is what I am leaning toward. I can weld through muffler butter because I have an angle grinder with a knotted wire wheel on it.

New U-bolt is on the way, muffler butter at the ready... it only has to not leak for a day to pass inspection, the leak is minor and not really a hazard but they'll fail it for that to try and squeeze a cheap easy repair bill out of it.

Same, but the registration is up 1.5 weeks from now, which means it has to be registered in MA now, which means it has to pass safety inspection on the first try, which means the exhaust leak has to be fixed :aaa:

Thus, this is my "paralyzed by indecision" face you are seeing right now. :v:

Hockey interests me because I'm an amateur skater, but that's about it.

Ball games... snore. As soon as the nachos are gone I'm uncertain why anyone stays around.
