Really disappointed Gus didn't win but I thought he acquitted himself very well. Considering this wasn't a murder in front of all his countrymen hopefully he won't talk about retiring and will be eager to get back. He's only 28 so super excited for the rest of his career, amazing how good his wrestling is.

People still hate England so much though to be fair they are incredibly English. The Joe Duffy fight will be funny because they represent the two opposite ends of Irish culture. The lovely country boy from the back arse of nowhere and the rough tough city boy. Personally I hope Conor defends against him in Croker and taps out within a minute again.

The whole island is Ireland that map is the republic, even if it said ROI instead though it's still bizarrely political and confrontational. Though not as bad as the time Nike marketed "Black and Tan" runners for St. Patrick’s day.

It is a dumb shirt nobody would have bought anyways but the reason McGregor's coach in particular got angry was because of the tagline that said "show your territorial allegiance." It's only been seventeen years since the Good Friday Agreement and the ceasefire between the IRA and the British and there's been occasional terrorist acts since then, so like, it seems reasonable to be against anything particularly divisive.

Also I'm pretty sure most people in Northern Ireland consider themselves to be Irish, so it's just dumb to only show the Republic of Ireland and not the whole island.

Anyways, congratulations to Smolka and Paddy Hollohan for being the first non-title bout main event flyweight fight.

His GF is also from Belfast.

Neil Seery the dockworker is the best. Smolka looked awesome in his fight against him and the Holohan fight will be cool but Da Last Samurai is loving stupid name.

It's no big deal for sure it's just a very bizarre misunderstanding of the country. It's worth keeping in mind any nordies born after the Good Friday Agreement are entitled to an Irish passport and everything that comes with that and it's probably a bit poo poo to be from Antrim but still identify as Irish and see the map like that. I'm guessing you're from the republic too?

If you go up to Belfast there are still tensions and strong ties to the past. There are IRA gun murals all over the place still beside barbed wire fenced playgrounds. I was there for a fencing training camp last summer and out bus took us past streets lines with union jacks and the next stop had a large sign with a burning Union Jack on it. There are still clubs and organisations all over the place advertising them as "loyalist only". There were parts of the city Nordies warned us not to go into because people would hear our accents and start asking where we were from. The year before that we were up for a competition during an Orange Order March and someone saw a pal of mine wearing an irish footie jersey and asked us if we were from the South. When we said yes he told us he was an undercover copper and escorted us back to the train station to be safe. We had riots in just 2006 when the Orange Order tried to march through Dublin City.

Of course things are not remotely as bad as they were years ago, nowhere close. Still, it's silly to say that there is no tension or any political heat there. Of course a UFC tshirt isn't going to cause much commotion overall but it is still loving dumb as hell and a really bizarre place to be reminded of an incredibly painful and destructive time in our history. It is easy to say it is nbd just because it's not an issue for you.
