The reason for this is knowing that the portrait box holding our skeleton dude will be empty at times, and even if it's occupied, it's housing a lot of unused black space. Outright going back on the decision to have that box didn't feel right, which is what that 4 screen decision thing was for, so I've been thinking of what to do with the box other than what it's doing now.

An idea was to have 44x44 px demo scene like animations that I'd ask a bunch of other devs to supply if they'd want to. I'll have to get ahold of one to mock it up into the game, but they'd look something like this, only colored:

yeah exactly that's gonna go into that box. probably gonna have it as backdrop to portraits only as I've had the laughably obvious epiphany of just having the old portraitbox-less frame whenever there is no conversation ongoing and no portrait to be held anyway. for now though, I can't figure out how to get that dude's incredible code into haxe for the life of me.

this evening I went from creating the different color variations of the game's UI frames as images and inserting them into the game, to having the frame's elements split into different sprites and recolor those via code to only having the black part as an image and drawing/recoloring the rest via code.
