I don't know what "visual magnitude" is or how it's calculated, but the positives and negatives seem reversed. The chart also implies that the sun is about 30% brighter than the moon and not quite twice as bright as Venus , which is obviously false.

- convention going back to ancient Greece: 1st magnitude is brighter than 2nd, etc.

- log scale

a little bit and the answer is mostly “people don’t interpret log scales correctly” especially in things like bar charts where people are comparing the heights directly rather than reading off the legend

I'm not sure why difference of deaths per day is important enough to get it's own axis.

When analyzing rate data it's often helpful to plot dx/dt vs x because it eliminates time. This way you can compare experiments done over disparate time scales and think about if they're caused by the same underlying mechanism.

Things get literally loopy though if you smooth and average too much.

Take out the 1500s outliers and you obliterate any effect they were hoping to demonstrate.

also nice: @naturecom vs @naturecomms

Except the Democratic party has been around for almost 200 years. To say some people only say it because they hadn't heard the correct way of saying it is a bit iffy. Calling it Democrat party is a deliberate thing.

I agree. I mean come on, I distinctly remember my parents complaining about the democrats back when I was a teenager in 1843, and anyone who didn't just didn't pay attention.
