Doin' work at 1am :v:

Movin' poo poo out of the way, this will get cleaned up later.

Two good wires and two horrible wires which was probably the idle surge problem . This goes in the trash.

poo poo outta the way to get ready for parts coming in. I figured i'd have to take off the TB for cleaning but i was shocked at how clean it was, like literally no build up at all. Looking inside to the intake it looks brand new as well. How the hell does this happen? My Miata's intake is black as poo poo.

Prep for another pressure wash. The valve cover leak was worse than i thought, I was scraping gobs of poo poo off the trans and front of the motor. Scraped off what I could and doused with orange clean to soak over night and wash in the morning.

He didn't find anything but a later protege and those won't work, so if you got a bead on some that would be awesome. I would need the A pillar and B pillar plastic, as well as all the mounting hardware. I don't need the female latches as mine will work, just the belt assembly. Do you happen to know what color they are? Anything short of tan would be fine I think, although I don't think BG's ever came with a tan interior.

Dude it would be awesome if this works out, the automatic belts are the worst part of this car.

Both lower panels were black and the uppers were, I wanna say a light grey but they could have been off-white. Memory's not great because I had a bit of stupid drama to deal with this morning and I've been a bit on edge all day.
I've seen BFs, BG Escorts and Festivas with brown interiors, but never a BG Protege.
Just standard Mazda hardware holding it in? I might be able to get them tomorrow. Also I might have some Mazda goodies left over from the Festiva and/or Kia kicking around I can throw in the box, I'll let you know what I find when I clean up my laundry room.
e: gently caress, I threw out the B8 intake that I gasket matched and cut out to accept a BP throttle body for fun/machining practice with my last load of non-ferrous scrap last winter. That would have been a fun thing to send. Probably too heavy to ship cheaply anyway.

I had this interior color. Is it brown, tan, or grey? I don't really know, and I can't remember how it looked in person.

That interior is fantastic!
I'm going to retrofit new seatbelts into mine.

I stripped out the Allen screw trying to get the belt to move... What sucks about the non power belt swap is you need the headliner too, otherwise there's a huge gap with the non power plastics.

I'll be gutting the tracks and keeping them to hold the plastics. If I feel motivated enough, I might 3D print some standoffs to ditch the tracks too. The interior is all apart on mine now until the belts get here Friday. Hoping to do the timing belt and water pump this weekend too.

Yep, black and off white is exactly what I have. Should be standard Mazda bolts, but I don't have any extras....A few might work from the power belt retractor under the console but I'm not sure.

But yeah lemme know what else you got, I might be able to use some of it. Funny thing is I had a nice extra battery tray with all the brackets that I chucked not long ago and of course I could use it now.

I wonder how many BG parts sockington has lying around :ninja:

Well gently caress, how bad is it? I might be better off just leaving in the old tracks and plastic then? I don't want it to look too hokey, but I might be able over look it if it's not that bad. Or maybe get one of those headliner extenders from HF.

Shitbox #2 needs work

Lost the power brakes. Stepping on the brake pedal effects the idle so it must be a vacuum leak right?

This is the lovely vacuum line I replaced thinking it was the problem for sure but it didn't do anything :(

So now I'm trying to figure out what the gently caress is going on with the brakes, the booster is not exhibiting the symptoms of a bad booster so I don't know wtf.

Meanwhile I got parts for the BG :woop:

Does the Miata have a check valve on the booster? That or its grommet could have failed.

Check valve is built into that vacuum line, that's why I got a new one. I figured the old line and/or check valve was hosed but I guess not. Throwing parts at this problem isn't gonna work apparently :v:

Hey leica, looks like those universal belts I bought are going to pretty much bolt right in.

I'll have some pictures this week. Even the hardware they came with is the right size (I'll be replacing all of it with high grade US made stuff).

They look about right on the length and were $29/ea on Amazon (they're slightly cheaper on eBay but have a longer wait).

Applebees Appetizer
Jan 23, 2006

Cool, I'd be very interested to see that.

Finally got everything buttoned up today. Had to spend most of my time on it because rain was coming and all my poo poo is outside so I had to finish putting all the new parts on. Between work and family, and now coaching little league I don't have much free time to gently caress with these drat cars. I just wanna get this thing on the road for now so i can put the Miata up and finally fix the water pump and everything else it needs.

Time to fix the horrible gasket leak. Head looks good.

Went ahead and swapped out the oxy sensor because they're cheap.

On a whim I decided to order a new clutch master and slave since they were so cheap, I figured i'd probably need one if not both, good thing i did.

You can see the new master poking in, and what the old leaky one did to the bracket.

Slave swapin'.....

....And all buttoned up.

Runs a lot better now, just need to get it registered, a new windshield and have the exhaust leak welded up.

Exactly, I always leaned towards BGs because they're cheaper and better than Toyotas of the same era, and even newer. maybe not so much better than Civics but finding a cheap manual Civic that hasn't been molested is not easy. Now that I have this one I may just keep an eye out for a clean LX or 323 as well, maybe start a collection :3:

Brought it out front for some cleaning while I wait on the exhaust. Needed a good vacuum, and all the door jambs and weather stripping was loving disgusting. Every used car i've ever bought needed the weather stripping and door jambs thoroughly cleaned, apparently nobody thinks that area ever needs attention.

Found these between the seat and console, all I need is the top bracket for the battery now!

:barf:

Going to finish up cleaning today, then it's back to the back yard to go up on jack stands to take off the wheels to see what else I need and get ready for the exhaust. I also need to replace the shifter bushings while I'm under it, so it's off to the dealer to get those.

I'm REALLY tempted to grab a Kia BP/G series because there are lots of them in the yards. Gotta take baby steps though, once I get this thing buttoned up I have to get to work on my Miata, I've been neglecting it for far too long.

Drove the protege to work today and man it sounds like poo poo, the exhaust is swiss cheese at this point. I imagine it should run a bit better too with a little back pressure once I get the new exhaust on. Also decided to get a windshield through insurance, by FL law if you have comprehensive coverage the insurance company has to pay for it. Doing both the protege and Camry, and if my rates go up I'm jumping ship.
