Is the LTE watch something you have to pay for a line or it's just attached to your existing phone account and would incur charges for whatever data you used?

E: ok I see a screen later in the checkout process that says $0 added and looking around it seems they just waive that for Pixel watches and some Galaxy watches so afaict no catch other than staying on Fi for two years (and sales tax)

ee: and ty for the heads up, every November I flirt with getting a smartwatch and always stop like one click away so this is perfect timing

Yes it just attaches to your phone account. You can have 4 data only sims although I don't know if the watch counts against that total. I have my 1st gen watch and an iPad on there and no extra fees.

Just got a notification that the 45mm Black I ordered an hour ago or so is "backordered."

That's what I ordered but no backorder email, hopefully it goes through! The black shows out of stock now but the other colors are there for the moment.

This seems like an insane deal, and also at the perfect time to replace my Fitbit that finally died. I'm still confused about this $0 per month "financing" option. I've read it a few times and I still have no idea how it's even, like, a transaction.

I was going to try to get further details but the initial "credit check" that apparently isn't a real credit check, is still upset about my address for some reason, even though it was already pre-filled with what Fi has on file. Oh well. Guess I have 24 hours to think about it.

Rexxed posted:

When you check out it shows as $0 to pay today and $0 a month (there's tax, I think mine was around $23). That $0 a month is contingent on you staying a Fi customer for 24 months, though. You're financing the remaining balance over 24 months but they are paying back that exact amount every month as well. If you left Fi, you'd owe them the balance for the financing option, afaik, or maybe they'd bill you monthly but not pay you back every month or something. I'm just gonna be on Fi for 2 years so I didn't worry about it too much.

You can also pay the initial price in full (minus the $150 sale) and just receive it back from them as a Fi credit every month for 24 months.

Yeah what Rexxed said.
Be aware the $150 off is instant but they will charge you that if you cancel your plan or drop the watch off you account within 120 days, I assume so people don't grab em and instantly resell.

Yeah staying on Fi for 2 years is no issue, unless they're planning to make it totally suck or something. Right now I've got 4 people on the plan so it's really cheap for us. I guess I'm trying to figure out why anyone would take the "pay $300-350 now" option since you have the stipulation of staying on Fi either way. Just bad credit I guess?

Saw the new posts earlier and wasn't really paying attention, just figured it was $150 off like a Black Friday sale. Looked closer this morning and 20 minutes later and it should be delivered by Friday. Thanks thread.

If you're already committed to keeping Google Fi for two years, is there any reason to not get the watch? My partner already has a smartwatch that she wants to keep using, but I'm trying to talk her into taking advantage of this deal and ordering one in a different size or color just in case I don't like the one I'm getting. She doesn't seem interested.

Can't think of why not to do this. Would only do the financed option given the potential for inflation over the next few years. No point in giving them money now and getting less back in real terms later.

41mm watch shipped. My tiny chicken wrists pay off for once.

That's a great deal; I wish I could use it. My old old Fitbit (Inspire) is on its last legs, but these mainstream smartwatches are all way too huge for my wrists (yes, even the 41-mm), and no one else in my family would use one (or it would be too big for them, too). I think I've worn my Fitbit on my wrist twice since I've had it; I mostly use it in my pocket or clipped to my bra as a pedometer, sleep monitor, and silent alarm. I've asked my husband for a Charge 6 for Christmas, which I think is the last of the slim style (and does fit in a clip). I understand Google is on track to kill the Fitbit brand entirely, but I've had one since I preordered the original back in 2010, and it's hard to stop now.

I haven't gotten an email about sim cards, but I'm also using the esim since 2020 or so. You just sign in to the fi app and it switches activation to that phone on your plan. My old phone, if I boot it up to get an authenticator code or whatever, just has a notification from the Fi app that the phone isn't activated.
I did switch over to the eSIM, and everything went smoothly. We'll take care of my kiddo's phone the next time he's home from school. Thanks to everyone for their input!

I mean some folks might not want another gadget hanging around, or to pay the tax on it. Other than that there's no real reason not to pick one up. My dad's on Fi too and I asked him if he wanted one but he's 87 and he said no. He likes his watches with hands and powered by a little coin cell I have to put in them every year for him.

Only reason I can think of is to preserve your available credit on the store to use on a phone or something.

If you are gonna be on the service for two years anyway then yeah no reason not to. Just beware of what I mentioned earlier about the $150 off. If I read the terms right you will need to keep the watch she orders activated on her line for 120 days or they will hit you for the $150. After that free to move it to your line or sell it.

"Canceling service, pausing service or changing devices within 120 days will invalidate the original $150 discount, which will be charged to your Google Pay account"

drat, did they just kill the deal? I'm not seeing it anymore when I refresh the various pages I was looking at. I know it was supposed to be going until January 7th...

The page with the terms for the deal still seems live, but the store pages indicate the normal pricing again.

I was still stuck waiting for the stupid credit check to be available again. (I think the issue was it wanted me to use my parents' address for some reason.)

Man that is weirdly specific. I wonder what the hell happened.

I hope they run this again for Black Friday or something, once they figure out exactly what their inventory requirements are or whatever. I might even be willing to do the up-front payment if I have a little more time to get ready for it. Sucks that I missed out on it just because of their weird little "this isn't the actual credit check, we swear" which abruptly morphs into "3 strikes and you're out!"

Today my "backordered" updated to "not shipped yet" with a date about two weeks out, so I think they're coming through, eventually.

My Series 7 Apple Watch is getting a little long in the tooth so I'll probably give this a spin for a while before I decide to get the newest Apple Watch because I can't live without my ecosystem.

I just spent way too long figuring out how to put the band on. Then I went to charge/update it and it wasn't happening, so I was afraid maybe I got a bum unit, then I realized I had fruitlessly stuck the USB-C cable into a USB-A port.

Unboxed it enough to discover that it's essentially impossible to even turn on without an Android phone. So now it's back in the box while I decide if I want to try and find my old Pixel 3 or just leave it and flip it in 120 days.

Yeah, it's like $400 off this week for current subscribers, with a better deal for new subscribers. My dad's upgrading from the Pixel 3 XL to the 9 Pro XL so we'll see how that goes. I've been pretty happy with my regular 9 Pro.

So I'm getting an issue with texting my wife. She's on ios on ATT and just got the RCS update. It's been ok, but today I'm getting something like 'Not Delivered Yet' on some messages, and if I hit the 'Check Options' I get the option to send via SMS, but it says that She's 'Not online' and that the message will be sent when she's back online. Problem is, she is online. Testing about an hour later (and after we each rebooted but still had the issue), now it seems ok?

Seems inconsistent - anyone else having this issue? Not really confidence inspiring.

I've had that issue once texting a friend on an iPhone with RCS... It only happened the one time though so far for me. I don't even know if they got it or not it was during a series of messages and was kind of a throw away

Does anyone know how transferring numbers off fi works, esp if there is an outstanding balance on a device? Does each member make the transfer? Is the member responsible for paying off the device or the account manager?

Iirc when my sister hopped off my plan her device charge was tied to the main (my) account. But that was a few years ago at this point, so not sure it would still be the case.

I’m on Google Fi but moved to Latin America. I’m mostly keeping the plan just to hang onto my number (I’d just throw it on Google voice but some banks that only use sms for 2fa won’t let me use a Google voice number) but I ordered an S25 ultra through them.

What are the chances I’ll be able to do an eSIM swap and activation if I’m not actually on the Fi network?
