Remember, this is 75k a day which is a dangerously low income level for CIG (2.25 M per month, not counting taxes, so more like 1.7M per month @~28% corp tax)

I'll let you guys draw your own conclusions, but any way I chop these numbers, I catch a real bad smell. I just don't see how any of these options are sustainable.

I am really curious how the IRS treats CIG's ship sales / donations / gifts. Maybe this has been discussed before-- if so, I'd love to be enlightened.

Are they virtual goods? Retail software items? True "donations"? What are CIG's tax liabilities for such transactions?

Consider the statements we've seen in the past from cultists about how after so long they've found themselves donating regularly out of habit.

The scale of it is hard for me to believe as well but I attribute that to my lack of exposure to cults.

I had a guy telling me that the game's development started entirely after the kickstarter and not in 2011 (even though Chris Roberts has given that timeframe IIRC) followed by them trying really hard to look like they know all about software development complete with examples that didn't help their case and in some ways undercut it. Like one of the arguments was "they got new tech afterwards and got rid of the old stuff they made so that resets the clock." :psyduck:

Thinking they fake the figures strikes me as just wishing people weren't idiots and would stop giving them money, human nature being what it is, people are idiots.

I don't know. It's easy to look at the numbers and just go “that can't possibly make sense”. But remember the scale of this thing.

1,667 “base” purchases a day means 50,000/month. That sounds like a lot until you start looking at the other numbers. The old 1 million “pilots” is obviously inflated. What if it's twice the real number of actual players? Then all we're looking at is 10% of those making one purchase a month. I seem to recall that 10% is kind of the average assumption of how proper community engagement — the portion of customers that actually go on forums and the like.

Given the culture of the community, it rather seems like being active means being a frequent purchases, and of course, we have the whales who compensate for the community “free-riders”. It's still just the average high-engagement community member splashing out on something that the hive mind considers a very minor payment either once on salary payday, or every fourth wage pay-check they get.

Is it sustainable? No, because it's still only just scraping by what they need, and at some point they will have to start delivering or more and more of these people will stop that monthly injection. But do the number of daily sales make sense in terms of feasibility or being realistic? Absolutely. The really scary thing: other than continuing to trust in some eventual delivery, it doesn't even require that much stupidity on the Citizens' part.

poo poo rolls downhill. Everyone who's ever worked a job in an institution knows this. But they also know there's several ways you can respond to that, and by far the worst one that shows your immaturity is letting it roll further on down to the lowest rungs.

I am one of those DK1 and 2 retards that got hooked onto VR after experiencing https://share.oculus.com/app/my-neighbour-totoro-vr---the-bus-stop-scene and https://share.oculus.com/app/titans-of-space" it totally sold the concept of presence to me, which when it comes with a working implementation of cyberspace that brings social interaction will fubar society even more than the internet, MMOGs and Social Networks did - as such I am already inline for the sperg helmets CV1 and Vive.

It's fascinating to witness a technology develop before your eyes, that is going to cause tremendous addiction issues. If you think Chat Rooms, MMOGs, Facebook, What's app, Snapchat, Netflix, online Porn and tinder were addictive and a distraction to civilian dutires - you just wait and see until these sperg helmets turn everyone into a chiphead.
