Usually when a game with so much attention starts to trainwreck you see everyone get really excited and a lot of people get really invested in the eventual crash. What usually ends up happening is things slow down, interesting information comes at a trickle, and it all ends with a whimper.

Star Citizen is such goddamn rollicking high-speed clusterfuck I'm not even sure I'm still riding on the same train I got on at when I decided to see how this game was progressing about a month or so ago. Every time it seems like things are going to slow down the train just slips onto another track and starts picking up pace again with a life of its own. A lot of people poke their heads in and want to know why the gently caress everyone is so interested in this game that will never be, and honestly there's no way to sum it all up without missing lots of stuff and people just piling on the things like "Oh and the HR/Marketing person (who is the wife of the CEO) was sending someone who was vocally critical of the game's slow progress screencaps of his SA forum posts."

Honestly, nothing I read in that article was particularly world-shattering.

It's obvious to any oldschool backer that once poo poo blew up with the continuous stretch goals in the early years, that we'd be getting a project with a shitload of promises and nary a hope on them delivering on all of them. Most people actually just wanted something that wasn't EvE in the Kickstarter stages of what is now something I'd class as a bloated abomination of the original idea.

I think there's plausibility in the bitter testimonials of those faceless former employees, but I also know to take this poo poo with a large helping of salt. When emotions, finances and jobs are on the line, things get said in the corporate grapevine that are hard to prove or disprove. I just wish they'd cut off the money-line and just say they'll stop peddling JPEGs at the annual sucker fair to just work on a game that might be released in my lifetime.

That is a very level-headed and intelligent way to view the article. Of course, after that article we've since seen Chris Roberts' rambling response letter he claims he spent 8 hours writing that blamed Derek Smart and Gamergate for everything, CIG's attempts to threaten both the Escapist and Derek Smart with legal action with extremely sloppy letters, the terrible joke that was Citizencon where they revealed that had wasted time and money on stuff they were scrapping BUT LOOK MOCAP, and as I said earlier the HR/Marketing/Actor that is Sandi Gardner (Chris Roberts' wife) sending a backer who is a member of this forum their SA posts in an email asking "Is this you?"

We are way past the point of level-headed and intelligent observations of that article or of this game in general, because we're standing on a giant flaming poo-meteor called Star Citizen just waiting for it to crash and explode in one of the many ways it could.

I made a funny to the effect of "I'm not sure belts are made to withstand that kind of stress. I'm pretty sure they'll snap before the last bit of dust from the 'Brooks was here' message hits the ground."

Either Sandi, Lesnick or Lando trolled through the forums looking for something, and it sparked something within their hearts. For Ben's sake, it probably helped his. :lesnick:

Sandi proceeded to email me on my personal email that she got from my refund request, to ask if this was me who in fact posted the aforementioned funny.
She then sent a SECOND separate email, in which she states I expected some sort of "exclusive news contract" with them 2 years ago, and she denied me that.

I did not reply to either of her emails. Why bother?

To answer the first question. No.
I'm sure someone else has the idea to use my name, likeness, and append BTHR just to make me look bad. I can do that on my own just fine, thankyouverymuch.

To answer the second question. NOPE.
Why? I recognized early on that other people had similar ideas as I, and they had just as much right to talk to CIG for whatever "news" they deemed worthy.
A little competition never hurt anyone. I'd never be that shallow to say NUH UH! FIRST. I should get it!

As far as I'm aware (and hey maybe I'm wrong!) Smart can't actually kick off any legal proceedings till Nov 1 which is what the original SC TOS had set as being for the release of something substantial else they'd start giving back lots of refunds and some other nonsense (their TOS has been altered to push that date back but the original date stands apparently). Also as much as we all love to hope and dream, even that date won't immediately usher in a glorious storm of fire and pitch because this sort of poo poo moves slower than that.

Black Scorpion was a mysterious man from Sting's past who would spook at him about stuff only Sting would know (in an incredibly vague manner) during or after Sting matches and perform magic tricks like turning a woman into a tiger instead of actually fight Sting.

Then when the actual fight happened Sting unmasked about ten dudes all pretending to be Black Scorpion in a parade of tomfoolery until finally it was revealed it was just Ric Flair again.

I guess what I'm trying to say is Karl's sick mind games are stuck in 1990 and no one found them entertaining then either.

Or, yaknow, the fact that the freaking head of CIG responded to one such article with a long-winded rant, attacking its author and demanding that the story be pulled, said author and publication telling them they won't do that...and CIG and their idiots pretending like it never happened.

I'd say that kind of a reaction is a pretty clear indication of there being fire. Or at least, if I were a journo and in any way looked at this, I know I'd be working on a follow-up piece after such an event, since it'd be pretty much guaranteed page views down the road and later, after it crashed and burned, allowed me to say: "I was one of the first to write about it and suspected something was up, yo!"

The Chris Roberts letter doesn't really prove that Star Citizen isn't going to come out and that CIG is on the verge of its failure cascade coming to light. It's a pretty good indicator that there's a whole shitload of problems but it's not really the dumpster fire everyone's waiting for. The dumpster fire I'm talking about is the point when CIG can no longer sustain the charade and all the smoke and mirrors come down, and everyone has to sit down and admit they got hosed and their money is gone. That's what the author is looking at as a possibility, that's what we're all expecting to happen, that's what the crazy backers are having conniptions about whenever it gets mentioned. Fact is since that letter and all the idiocy that happened from it CIG is still keeping up the image to their (seemingly eager to be misled) backers that things are trotting along nicely.

But you're right about the follow-up. The clever ones will be keeping an eye on this thing so they can be the first to get the article out titled "THE STAR CITIZEN DREAM CRASHES" and then the retrospectives asking "What went wrong?" because as the author says in the end, Star Citizen loving up would be a pretty big deal in terms of discussions about the future of crowd-sourcing.
