So is this game going to come out? And has this game gotten any attention from the mainstream news? 100 million is a lot of money to crowdfund for spaceships.

So for all the problems because of micromanagement from Chris Roberts, and the troubles with trying to reasonably do ship-to-ship combat when every ship is its own instance but will also be able to 100% interact with the outside instances, and for the ships and clothing to be silly looking and over-designed with too many polygons and moving parts which are just going to slow the game down, how come the physics is all hosed up? People have been doing physics in video games for a long time. For almost 2 decades now, there have been games with objects sitting in a 3D world without constantly vibrating and jerking around like they were a book in an Elder Scrolls game the player is trying to neatly place in a bookshelf, except that's okay because it only happens for a few seconds, and only when you're doing pointless window dressing.

Is Cryengine not very good? What would have been a better engine to use which would have at least not have the spaceships poo poo themselves any time they interact with another physics object?

I just wanted to say "same," but man this is a trip. So, you need painful surgery to get physical implants if you want to drive a car, bike, or skateboard.

Sex is illegal and if you touch your dick it gets cut off.

Watching sports is mandatory on threat of being put into concentration camps, and the losers of any one match are executed. And actors are killed in movies, because they're threatened into following their script directions to die or else they'll be executed. And if the movie doesn't have a real death the crew is executed.

Everyone has to watch executions and if you blink during the execution you're executed.

When they conquer new planets they execute everyone on it, blow up the planet, and then erase all records of the planet's existence. Also anyone who is executed has records of their existence erased. I like this last bit because it answers my question of why people who blink during an execution can't just rewatch it. I guess it's live-feed only and not recorded.

If you're somehow not executed but just go to jail you need to serve 40,000 years, and if you refuse that you get....everything but your brain, heart, and nerves stuffed in a capsule with unpleasant air pressure and shot into space.

At age 14 all children get their skeletons replaced with silver liquid.
1 million people a day have to be killed, either just in general or by being cooked to death in restaurants, and this doesn't include the people executed for other stuff.
Cops are "40 times larger than the civilians, so they're abour 230 feet tall. The population is 300 quadrillion, and 14 billion people die a day. Also if you don't like the government you're injected with something that makes you completely immortal and invincible.

This strikes me as a combination of Warhammer 40,000 and that guy on DeviantArt who would draw cartoon characters erotically constricted with rubber bands and deli meat.

Right now the only ships you can even sort of use are very small ships that could hold ~8 people, right? Like, the size of an IRL yacht?

Theoretically is this supposed to let you own a capital ship and walk all around it and see every deck? Because that does sound really cool. But that in itself would have to be the entire focus of the whole game. Like those guys who are trying to make a complete digital reconstruction of the Enterprise.

Would you be able to interact with/murder your crew of NPCs?

Will the game have stealth mechanics? While i'm sure that purple laser is deadly, he'll be completely powerless if you can sneak up behind him and pull off his CPAP mask.

Also, is there any place where they publish an official "features to be implement" list, the way Toady does for Dwarf Fortress?

In the fourth Stimpire, it rains pain. Pain in the form of a raindrop, yes a raindrop made of pain. People who loiter are forced to stand out the the painrain wearing paincoats, which are like raincoats but increase the pain from the painrain by 100 times every half second. People who refuse to watch the loiterers getting painrained have their spleens replaced by a mauve liquid that turns their red blood cells into pain.

People born with genetic insensitivity to pain are subjected to crippling emotional pain through rejection.

No but for real. What's the planned penalty for death. I never played EVE, but I think in that when you die your ship is lost, you wake up in the clone-factory, and your given a free lovely space dinghy worthless for anything but flying to whatever space station has your other ships docked in it.

On paper it actually makes sense. Consider: if you played ED and EvE there are real criticisms and limitations imposed by those games that inspire musings. "What if I could get out of my ship and shoot at spacemans and what if this economy system was supported by actual people doing espionage on an actual base while..." blah blah blah. To some people who are frequent fliers in the land of make believe these seem like logical evolutions in gaming.

I cannot tell you why people would spend thousands of dollars on this game though aside from 'poor understanding of the value of money.'

So the core audience is mostly like, dads, who are nerds but not necessarily familiar enough with modern games to know the limitations of what's feasible, even from a basic developmental logistical standpoint? Or how a game that is trying to be everything won't do anything well? Or how they're seemingly using the worst game engine imaginable which can't even render a mostly empty hangar without every object violently jittering like you're trying to fit a book into a bookcase in an Elder Scrolls game?
What if they just ripped all the jpeg assets and redid everything in unity or something. What engine would this work in?

Think about it though. Chris Roberts really has saved PC gaming. Not in the way he intended to but in a way that is probably infinitely more valuable to the gaming community.

Not only did he manage to basically unite the worst of the worst individuals, who show signs of mental illness, sociopathic, pedophile or otherwise violent, aggressive and unhealthy tendencies in their postings and behaviour, in a single, easily avoidable "community". He also indirectly gave us "How much are you in for?" as the next "Do you have stairs in your house?", only tailored to easily identify and avoid the aforementioned undesirable members of the gaming world.

So Star Citizen actually has at least this benefit to PC gaming in general.
And no, I am not joking, some people in that community should probably be locked away for their own safety and that of others. As much as we laugh about their ideas of "space rape", "the Stimpire" etc., publicly posting about your fantasy to rape people or publishing your torture porn? There are some very sick people in that community. I would feel really uneasy if I knew one of these people in real life.

I remember the Stimpire thing. What was this about "space rape"? Is that the other extreme end of the PvP slider from "I want to be immune to pirate attacks because I just want to peacefully ship space-cargo like a worse, more expensive E:D?"
