Your credibility is 0.
Actually, Derek is batting over .500 on detailed predictions regarding CIG's future-- which is considerably better than CIG's record.

As amazing as this is to type (I honestly can't believe my brain is letting my fingers type it), "Derek Smart is one of the most credible authorities rendering judgment on Cloud imperium at this time."

I know this has proven a very difficult thing for Star Citizen backers to accept. It runs counter to the triumphalist "I've come to save PC Gaming and create the Best drat Space Sim Ever!" narrative of Chris Roberts and to the "destroyer of Coke Machines and producer of much derided games" reputation of Derek Smart. Yet the narratives are irrelevant to the facts since July, and the fact is, Derek has predicted CIG's steps with eerie accuracy.

We do not yet have confirmation as to their financial standing. Derek's claims that CIG was down to an 7 figure cash reserve as of late summer is perhaps his most outrageous claim of all-- yet it seems telling that Ortwin and Chris ignored this particular whopper in their detailed replies to the Escapist article. Nothing would have been easier to refute-- and no other claim The Escapist (and formerly Derek Smart) was more dire about the state of things at Cloud Imperium.

But even if Derek is proven wrong on this point, he's still batting over .500. His credibility is unfortunately higher than you estimate.

You're supposed a grown up man, but you're nothing more than a bully.
Well, I'd agree Derek can be a bully, but in ways both good and bad, he's considerably more than that.

At this point this 'threat assessment' was a compliment.
I can think of no individual on this planet who has proven a greater threat to CIG than Derek Smart, save for Chris Roberts and Sandi Gardiner.

There is one simple thing for me.

If it turns out CIG executives have been buying first class plane tickets using backer funds I would be very disappointed.

I can understand flying business class or premium economy and then upgrading with their own money to first class.

On "Reverse the Verse" after Citcon, there was an interesting exchange.

Thomas Hennessy was addressed by the crew - he was behind the camera, and Sandi mentioned flying with him back from the UK. The camera was turned by Jared to face Thomas and ask benign questions about the trip, to which he replied something like, "Yeah, Sandi and I flew back together. She was in the upstairs area--"

Which prompted a quick reply from Sandi off-camera, "Don't worry folks it was still Economy."

I went and dug around on double decker planes flying international routes. It seems like the majority reserve upstairs for Business Class and First Class.

I'm not saying it's impossible Sandi was telling the truth. Just that I was already laughing when Thomad made his comment and before Sandi finished her retort, simply because the first thing that popped into my mind was "Well of course she flew first class!"

I've only flown on a double-decker plane once in my life-- and on that flight, I did fly upstairs in the swanky business class seats. That certainly colored my perception, and perhaps unfairly.

So let it be noted that I'd amend my prior anecdote, and acknowledge that the possibility exists that Sandi was telling the honest truth about that particular issue.

3 - The full commercial release of Star Citizen (Both of the above?)

-They have to have multi-crew in for the many seats inside
-They have to program NPCs that actually want a place to go

-They have to program ability to travel from star system to star system
-They have to program places to land
-They have to program a way to drop off and load NPCs
-They have to have a working economy to insert pricing
I think it's even crazier that that jpeg-- and all it represents-- made it through multiple parties inside CIG without someone actually saying "Hell no we're not releasing that! We're making the Best drat Space Sim Even, not some dumbed-down remake of BarSim!

This is how game development works.
If you're being ironic, ignore the following correction.

No, that's how "game development" works when you work for Molyneux. Roberts, or other 'visionaries' with pathological inclinations towards scope runaway and over-promising. And it's a formula for generating maximum short-term hype and the expense of long-term credibility, and their legacies are built on one success in the distant past, followed by a string of failures.

Well run gaming studios don't have histories of talking up all the feature-sets before they've even locked basic mechanics of play. Well run studios don't talk about their games before they've moved past internal alpha stage development and are well-into beta. Some don't even talk about them until they're in QA stage doing the bugsmashing on a game they've not yet announced and have previously refused to confirm is in development. Like these guys.

And crowdfunding is no excuse. Harebrained demonstrated exactly the kind of discipline and restraint that Chris has always lacked in their latest Battletech kickstarter. No stretch goals, promises NOT to expand scope beyond what they were pitching. Their project was in fact a passive-aggressive rebuke of Chris Roberts, and the digs made at Star Citizen are hardly subtle, because Harebrained knows the damage that folks like Chris Roberts and Peter Molyneux cause for the reputation of the industry at large.

There's the things that we sign our people to explore, to figure out - you know, go and see about making this happen. Then there's the challenge. Then there's - going through and figuring out how to make all this happen. Not everything's going to become a reality exactly the way we spoke about it; not everything's going to work with every other system; it's an exploration - that's what development is. So that's probably why I don't know anything about it because we haven't actually done any work on it yet."
Yes, that's exactly what defenders of a pathologically overpromising, under delivering, scope-creeping once successful repeatedly unsuccessful game developer have to say. They know (NOW) they have to start deflating the expectations bubble that Chris Roberts has, once again, overinflated.

If you think is standard operating procedure at well-run game dev studios, I encourage you to play more games than Freelancer, Fable, and Daikatana.

It's probably the most sympathetic lie she would tell (because we all know Hollywood has no use for unknown female properties in their 30s or above.)

I will say that Sandi herself has created a biography so full of contradictions that, if nothing else, we should know better than to trust her as a reliable source. She lies about herself-- a lot-- and brags about herself just as much. How she reached this age-- whatever it is-- without learning that true confidence in self doesn't require perpetual acts of self-congratulation ("I'm currently reading LotR in French", "I train in MMO twice a week with a Six Dan Blackbelt", etc.), attention seeking (like dressing way too provacatively for work), misrepresentation of self (educational credentials / age / professional accomplishments) and alleged humiliation of subordinates (The Escapist accounts) is the bigger mystery to me.

One of the first home-grown criminal networks to use mafia techniques such as threats and violence as a business concept was the Uppsala Mafia. In total, Gizmondo was drained of 1.6 billion kronor. The scam got international attention last year after Stefan Eriksson, one of the crew's top dogs, split his seven million kronor Ferrari Enzo in half, crashing into a telephone pole in Malibu, California while driving at 250 kilometres per hour."
