I think your game already exist and its called command conquer renegade. it had meaningfull ground air and vehicle combat with basebuilding orbital strikes and ion cannons. even screenshots look similar to LOD  the game came out in 2002 and was really fun to play and frankly if you could deliver same thing LOD could be fun. heres the problem.  some fans are already rebuilding renegade in better engine and its free  https://www.renegade-x.com/ so question is what can LOD offer thats better than renegade x?
