Hello. I'm new (not new - lurked for the past 2k posts, but yeah - new). I like food (I can share recipes in the future if you all are nice). Yes, I back SC. No, I will not get a refund (I don't care - it was disposable income for me). Yes - I make up my own mind. No, I'm not an idiot (well versed in tech, cyber security, and finance industries - can't talk about what I do for a living though). I am on RSI Forums, Reddit, private message boards and now here, so I manage to get a taste of everything. Glad to be aboard. o7 -Man ManofManyAliases fucked around with this message at 21:57 on Jun 17, 2016 |

I don't doubt the game will be made, but I do feel management is all over the place right now. Some indicators point to the notion that they'll find their groove and start to turn over content. I just don't think that content will be released in the near future, but I can wait for the long haul.

Some friends and I used to play Eve - they more than I. Much sums of money were dropped during that time (again - they more than I). I can already see the cogs spinning on the "This is no were near what Eve was at inception" argument so that I say - fair enough. As I mentioned before: management is severely lacking at CiG currently, but many of those devs are pretty talented. I invested in what I wanted for the onset of the game (if/when released), but can easily as dump (since most of what I invested in are rare ships) if some signs prove to be especially telling.

I pay more attention to all of the dev responses throughout the forums, the JumpPoint communications, and other "commlink transmissions" concerning devs and ops. They've engaged google for the cloud architecture and use GCE to handle VM scaling. Their studios have a 1GBs fiber connection on a 45-gigabit fiber network , etc. etc. That's serious infrastructure for some good ole' fashion fleecing, no? Well - for the time being, I have no problem observing. ManofManyAliases fucked around with this message at 17:25 on Mar 22, 2016 |

Chalks posted:Quick question - how good does Star Citizen have to be for you not to feel robbed of your $4k? Like, if it's a game that's a bit worse than other space shooters but still OK, do you think them throwing that money at Chris' vanity project motion capture studios and burning cash on designer furniture and huge murals was worth it for you? I don't care so much about SQ42 as I do about PU. I want to see a Beta where persistence is actual, there is true travel between systems, and I can seamlessly transition a vehicle from space to planet surface without loading screens, a la NMS or ED: Horizons. I want to see a flushed out design, and subsequently working, economy based on initial promises of a 9:1 ratio NPC-player environment. And, I want to see the technology in place and proven to flush out the 100 star systems at launch, excusing them if they can't quite hit 100 in time for launch, but are nearly there and is just a matter of man hours using said technology to pump out the rest (after all, they are claiming that they are taking time to develop the technology to produce procedurally generated planets and artifacts, and to develop a ship pipeline that would aid in content creation in the future - so let's see). Lastly, I want to see that they are in fact capable of scaling their servers to accommodate growing populations of players in specific instances. It was stated that through the use of GCE and VM scaling, they should be able to utilize unused cores on servers to seamlessly spool and load more players as they become active in an instance. I'm not expecting Eve-like battles because of the FPS-nature of this game, but I do expect them to figure out how to have more than 24 ships and individuals in an instance and scale accordingly as people exit and enter said instance. This is what I'd like to see by Beta.

peter gabriel posted:How do you feel about Chris putting a skeleton crew on the PU and pouring resources into SQ42? So I have a theory about that (could be right, could be wrong... oh well?): SQ42 might be a proving ground for their overall flight/game mechanics: I don't see them producing a game to release to the masses whereas you are forced to proceed through levels with a mess of broken flight and fps mechanics. It could just be that by the time SQ42 is released (or even if they release levels as an introduction to the game), that they either a) have the flight and fps mechanics on lock and are looking to beta-test b) they are extremely close to tying it down and need additional QA support. Based on your post history and the amount of time lurking in this thread, I realize you may be egging me on (I hate to end a sentence with a preposition ...). Overall - I don't like that they shifted resources to SQ42, but from an operational standpoint, if they are paying and engaging the services of UK Studios other than their own, actors such as those they announced and Andy Serkis et al, I can understand how they would want to ensure that part has some attention before moving forward again 100% on in-house development on the PU. Moreover, we just don't know what "skeleton" means. 250+ people .. is skeleton 50 developers? 10?

Unlikely - I think the developers would have spoken-up by this point if that were the case.

Many had no idea CiG had that many assets in development, or was even considering more than what was publicly displayed. It could certainly be the case that there are much more workings behind the scenes than what is shared with us. As for your comment about the episodes - it was stated for at least 1-2 years now that they wanted to break it into a three-part series, probably for a multitude of reasons including, but not limited to income, time and labor assets. I do agree that it may be slipping into 2017. We might see one level drop this year as a teaser, therefore abiding by the "released in 2016" requirement they set, but I can't see a fully polished game out in 9 more months.

ManOfManyAliases as you might have noticed plenty other Citizens have joined the thread, one of them today, the reason people are jumping on you is that you made two mistakes. The first one was signing your post, much like saying "poo poo" that would earn you a couple of pokes for being a newbie but nothing more serious. What really triggered a lot of people off was you referring to the money you spend as an "investment" or (worst) as "disposable income". I called it disposable because I assumed that's how it would be received in this thread, considering the direction many of you have taken from 2k pages ago to now. To be honest, any description I applied to my "investment" would have been scrutinized: Investment? - "Lol what return buddy! Pledged? - "What a fool for backing a dream!" Backed? - "Lol dumping money into a fool's wish!" Etc. Second, the "investment" of 4k was done since 2014, and not a drop all at once. Third, I signed my first post because, well - I'm new didn't want to someone to arbitrarily apply a name to call me by that I did not want. Man is shorter that writing out Man of Many Aliases (but I suppose MoMA works too... drat). Now that I had to "explain" myself, care to move on?
