I caught up with the thread sort of backwards and only now realized the tickling thing is weeks old! The cursed paywall eventually forced me to register, and I sort of wonder if the tickle-incident is the reason it's been up for so long. At least I no longer risk waking everyone up when surprised by the extremely loud sign up video.

Nice to finally be an official backer of the 'rums

A lawsuit? This was not even hinted at as a possibility in the TOS.

Is there a guide for how I can get a refund?

What's pissing me off the most is this cynical attempt to ride the wave of sympathy towards Leslie Jones. Where are the harassing and threatening tweets Sandi? Why are you using that as an excuse to quit Tweeter when no one seems able to come up with any quotes?

One week before the Con... What a farce. These really are loving terrible people, gently caress all of them.

I thought of that too, this being inspired by Leslie Jones. On the other hand, it sort of feels bad to assume there has been no harassment. There's such an obvious risk that it means I am becoming a bad person. Like, I usually don't appreciate the "prove that you were threatened!"-crowd.

Also, the Elmo-sideplot could probably make this debacle interesting to the elements behind the Leslie Jones harassment, which I would not really like.

That said, it really was an amazing disccovery.

Yeah. I used to have an account around (before?) 2001. Then I lost it around the time when the passwords got stolen all the time. I forgot what I had changed it to. I tried the names of all items in the vicinity of my computer to no avail.

As for the reduced strictness, I 've sometimes thought GBS was some sort of auto-generated prank shown to unregistereds. I haven't checked yet, but I imagine it will be exactly the same now that I am logged in :). ..minus "gently-caressed" perhaps.

I guess the forums were always tough on racism, regarding gender it seems to have become real progressive. Or maybe the rest of the internet just turned to poo poo.

I've never seen the games as being enemies either, but it's unfair to call them allies. Frontier consistently makes awful decisions that their religiously zealous community defends to the death, and Hello Games just proved that they don't know how to handle a AAA title. Meanwhile, CIG is happily chugging along, patiently perfecting their product, led by a man with the experience required to ensure the game doesn't suck.

SC completely blows the other two games away.

quote:

As the last of the three to release, I hope CIG can take some notes from the other two games.

Although they are already set-up to avoid a lot of the problems NMS has run into on release. They won't have the same issues with devs making unclear statements about what is in the final game causing people to expect things that aren't there - not only do they tend to be more clear in what they say, the actual game is available for people to play, meaning there aren't surprises. And the game is unlikely to be as buggy on release, again because it's getting tested like crazy by players.

Still, it does highlight the importance of having clear communication and not releasing before you are ready (and not working with Sony, but no worries there)

You may be onto something here. We've proven there's a fiercely loyal market for "potential" games.

What they should do is start offering recruitment incentives - mobilize the fanbase to really proselytize the game and get the word out. Maybe offer a "bounty" for every new player that citizens encourage to sign up. And then those new players could sign up more new players for a bounty, while kicking revenue back to CIG, and so on with an ever-widening player base.

They could use the "Two-Phase Waterfall" methodology: http://www.waterfall2006.com/martin.html

I finally read all of the extremely long article in LEVEL.

It was interesting. I knew a lot of it, but it helped connect some things mentioned in this thread, e.g. the "Potato"-thing. It also provided some interesting history on Derek Smart's humble beginnings as a gas-station attendant, some exclusive quotes from both DS and CR, and some corroboration of The Escapist's claims about Sandi, though only from unnamed sources. All in all it was quite damning of the project, like a reverse of that German article, although it still appeared to strive for balance. Apparently the author lost contact with Chris after he started asking the wrong questions.

Those who have followed this in detail, like :airquote:Kevin:airquote: and Derek probably know all the stuff already, but it is a nice summary and well written.

I thought (some pages in) that it was weird to see an article this long about a game, but when the article compared the budget to the Lord of the rings movies it sort of started to justify things.

I don't think it would be fair to translate and post it it, at least not while the issue is still available in stores. Someone mentioned the author had commented here even? Perhaps someone with a "completionist package" could refer me to his post? :thx:
