Overall there are a lot of lovely trends in video games right now. Just waiting for all of this crap to work itself out and let the dust settle. Gaming always goes through a few crappy trends at any given time. This is no different. Early access, Kickstarter, crowd funding, all of that poo poo is stupid as gently caress and a huge scam.

true. Crowdfunded, early access, and procedurally generated are indeed the worst things ever in the game industry. Funny thing is, all three of them aren't mutually exclusive and combined seem to be the majority.

Like Star Citizen, No Man's Sky is suffering from "we promise this is going to be awesome" vs actually showing us it will be awesome. At least no one has paid for No Man's Sky yet

You're really stupid and should shut up.

I seem to remember in Diablo (the first one) that there was a few pattern. Everytime I fought the Butcher there seemed to be only a few layouts of the area you fight him in. The one I always liked was the one with the grates so you could shut the door on him and shoot him with a bow and arrow. The Butcher couldn't open doors you see, emergent gameplay!

This is how ARPGs are made. They aren't true procedurally generated games, their dungeons just have a lot of different variations.

It is good and healthy to keep your expectations in check, except when it comes to Star Citizen's demise. It will be fireworks and magic and it will happen all at once, with a gigantic crater left in its wake.

In all seriousness, if the rumors are true then Star Citizen has been sinking for most of 2015. So it's actually been a slow decline into finally getting that press release that Star Citizen has been canceled.

Sorry, but I'm NOT going to make their communications to me public in order to prove you wrong. Either you're making this up, or someone is lying to you. As I type this, I have an ENTIRE wall of text in TweetDeck DM of my communications.

I don't take too kindly to being called a liar.

And as I said before, we don't even need their willing testimony. That's what subpoenas are for. Not to mention the RSI forum records and testimonies from the RSI/CIG staff who were party to all of it.

I am pursuing it because people like Wulf Knight, Trevor Noblitt et al are the primary reason why the Star Citizen community is so toxic. And there is nothing on Earth that is going to prevent what I've sent in motion from happening and/or playing out. So everyone needs to just sit back, relax and wait for what comes next.

No offense but you have a history of being a liar. Chances are you are lying about this like you have been with everything else.

I believe this was a 200 million dollars over several games or years or something. If 200 million was spent on the steaming pile of excrement that is destiny that was a pretty good money laundering scheme.

Except Destiny has been a very well received game and is one of the most played multiplayer titles still a year later.

Yeah, and it still says that on the archives kickstarter page too.
And we've now got the "sometime in 2016" thing for the S42 as well (assuming they survive that long).

What happens around the time of their "anniversary sale" (for the game that doesn't exist yet) is going to be interesting as all hell.

S24 is episodic content too. That is only for episode 1.

So they are at least a year behind schedule, rome wasnt built in a day you know

BTW a year in full scale game development can be anywhere between 20m to 30m dollars. So those are expenses they werent accounting for in their roadmap

RSI is actually near 2 years behind, 3 - 4 years when Squadron 42 comes out, but the delayed timer will still be ticking because S42 will not be completed fully by then and the other promised gameplay modes wont be done yet either. There's no excuse for why Squadron 42 isn't finished and feature complete by right now. It should be a full game buyable on Steam right now and it's not and that is beyond unacceptable.

Your sources are uninformed. If I had poked in to her life, she'd know about it. Definitely.

You said before a woman on the internet thinks you're stalking her. Why would she say that then? You are pretty obsessed with something you have no stake in anymore, both Star Citizen and the people running the show. Maybe stalking a woman on the internet is a little creepy, so perhaps not do that anymore?

I'm assuming there is no TL;DR about this D. Smart thing (who seems a little bitter) and I'll just go on being happy that SC has proved that there's a spaceship game market.

Honestly I can't decide if the OP is an onion article or not. I glanced over some other stuff like Chris Roberts' response to The Escapist and it all seems totally ridiculous. Am I being trolled

Derek Smart is a massive liar who is jealous because his career in gaming was nothing more then a wet fart. Star Citizen is on track to be hugely successful. All of the claims about this game being dead, mass lay offs and people walking out, have proven to be wrong. I use to be in the camp that believed Star Citizen's development was going to fail in spectacular fashion, but nothing at this point supports that belief. I will still only buy this game once its retail though.

Is it just me being totally clueless about game engines, or am I right in thinking that the whole reason the game freaks out all the time is because at heart it's an FPS engine being strong armed into not being an FPS engine? And that's why ships just act like an FPS with /fly on?

I know we go over the whole "cryengine is a horrible choice!" thing all the time, but we never really discuss why, other than cryengine is garbage to start with.

I dunno, the game is still pre-alpha so I wanna give it some benefit of the doubt but mostly you are correct.
