The best part is, I think they can't have these effects because they already have a fudged system where you are underwater anyway (the splashes now and then on your visor) - so they can't even hammer in a system where you 'drown' because hey, they disabled that already ha ha

I always remember how FFXIV devs have gotten a bad rap with how slowly they implement anything that would increase network/server load. Like people wanted a proper wardrobe feature after 2.0 released, they came back after a while and said that they couldn't implement it because it would cause way too much network congestion and that the best they could do was a transmog system. They implemented player housing in a very limited way and have since slowly increased the available instances for housing but also added a system to delist houses that aren't being used anymore. They've been mentioning that they want to increase player storage, but they have to work a little more with the DBs and network structure before they can whip it out.

Its one of the most consistent and stable MMOs in the market. These are people that know what they are doing and everything they do is measured with how it would affect server performance, how it would affect already implemented systems. Each patch adds content they can build upon, like a proper foundation. You ask them about the state of the game and they have a very accurate view of whats coming out in 3 months, whats coming out in 6 months, whats coming out in the expansion and what the first few content patches for the expansion are going to be about. This is a properly managed MMO.

In contrast CIG doesnt know when 2.5 is coming out, doesn't know what it will have in it but definitely knows what it wont have in it. They also know that its going to run like poo poo, its going to full of bugs and that they need to get the poo poo at least presentable looking for Gamescom.
