I finally got myself to paint something during the week again. Been having trouble moving lately.

Sharpest Crayon posted:I stream on Twitch. It's mainly meant for streaming gaming, but it has a "creative" category where people paint their miniatures or knit chainmail or whatever. All you need is a program that "screencaps" whatever's on you monitor. I use OBS since it was recommended and also they had clear instructions on how to make it work with Twitch. It's easy to get started and it's nice to have interaction, even if some of it is trolls. I was pleased that when I was drawing the parasaurolophus, a prehistory buff wandered in and corrected the physiology and also told me my ferns were wrong. :P Aw, thanks! I tried streaming on twitch recently, but I guess my computer isn't good enough. It was dropping way too many frames.

Troposphere posted:I'm really not sure what you're going for with the noses tbh it's reminding me a lot of the dreaded tumblr nose syndrome and is just really distracting. the pictures are good without it and I think you could lose it and make the pieces a lot stronger. or at least tone it down a bit. Thanks for the comments. I'm still experimenting with color, so I'll probably tone it down eventually. But I tend to think of color as hot and cold, so I use the hot spots to bring things forward. In painting I use cadmium red as the hottest, most forward color as kind of a play on color, as it registers as black in grayscale. I understand it alienates some (I've gotten similar comments), but loving whatever. a hole-y ghost posted:it's cool but why are you putting color in your value study? even a little bit kind of defeats the point Some men just want to watch the world burn. In truth I had planned to make it a full painting using the value as an underpainting, but I got tired of working on it... Thanks for the comments, guys.

a hole-y ghost posted:Don't do this thing, please. It makes so many artists seem prickly and insecure and undermines your justifications. The underpainting thing makes sense and I often do something similar to that, I just wanted to see why you did it. Do what thing? I'm not trying to blow off criticism, but if the justification for the critique is, "it's alienating," then I don't know what to say. I'm just experimenting with expressionism and color and that's where I'm at right now.
