Just wanna say I started listening/binging recently and this show is really great. I love the level of detail in Wiger's openers and impassioned closing judgements, the two hosts have a great casual rapport, it's charming to have them talk earnestly about chain restaurants while still acknowledging it's a dumb concept, and as an Australian this is making me frustrated I can't access most of these food places.

Up to Hard Rock Cafe at the moment, the last few eps have had some great what the gently caress moments like Spoon Man being molested by dolphins and Wiger considering tickle porn. Good stuff

Yo why weren't the Doughlympics made into an international competition. They'd done Jollibee, that ramen place, Outback Steakhouse, Panda Express and all that by then. I guess they might've wanted to keep it tight after the tournament of chompions but feels like such a wasted opportunity smdh

That was incredible, also Gabrus repeatedly jumping the gun and just continuing to eat nuggets. There was also a great moment where Wiger and Nicole Byer are talking and the *ding!* of the next minute goes off, and you can softly hear Mitch exclaim "gently caress!" in the background

Just listened to the Despicable Me DD ep. Mitch's hosed-up alt-history of Wiger adopting baby Mitch was great, as was Wiger's fuckin "Happy" parody song and the horror from the others' voices at it.

Also, I agree with Harris.

I forget which ep it was - I think it was a Double - but iirc Nick at some point talked about how the business of comedy is itself the lovely thing, in that it amounts to 'mechanizing' spontaneously funny behaviour or thoughts in a way that takes the magic and fun out of it.

As for going to another studio, are the big two happy to let their shows have personal patreons? I don't know about Maxfun but Earwolf likes that the only way you can give to a show is to give to them and hope it makes its way.

Afaik from other Maxfun podcasts, the main funding model besides advertising is the Maxfun donation drive. Which seems really outdated now that we know 4000 people will collectively pony up nearly 18 grand a month for an extra ep per week of a single show, but that's just the way the industry developed I guess. (It's crazy to think how much money a brand like the McElroys would make if they emerged during the patreon era.)

A studio seems unnecessary in the current climate, but I could also see name recognition being a factor in getting new listeners.

Relistening to the original Munch Madness. Mitch controversially votes for Burger King over Five Guys in the minisode and Susser likewise votes Burger King (potentially a biased move, because Susser might be trying to throw the match to give Steak 'n' Shake a weaker opponent).

On the very next episode, the minisode is thrown out and the match is turned into a three-way Burger King vs Steak 'n' Shake vs Five Guys. Mitch votes for Five Guys and Wiger loses his loving mind

As well he should. Wasn't Mitch's #1 complaint about Five Guys that it was "too complicated" and it asked too much effort of him to pick his own toppings?

I think Wiger brought it up as well; they both agreed that Five Guys should have some 'default' burgers. I think I agree - even if customisation is a big thing, it's good to have a burger that says "we thought about what to put on this."

Mitch's initial Burger King vote was, I think, 80% trolling and 20% genuine reverence for the social importance of the Whopper.

It isn’t even that, because there’s still a shitload of things that aren’t on an all the way. It’s closer to what people might expect when they order a burger - mayo, mustard, ketchup, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms (although obviously those last two are a departure from the “default” most places).

Ah, OK, I'll defer to first-hand knowledge there.

Is it possible that the Doughboys made an obvious mistake and didn't realise or correct it?

While we're just throwing stuff out

When it finally comes, the McDonald's review is too big for one episode. There's the breakfast menu, the classics, McCafe, and the Create Your Taste menu (is it called that in the US?)

We're going to need more

We're going to need a Month of McDonalds

*triumphant music starts*

either that or Doughboys runs for 5 years, Mitch dies and is replaced for the last year, McDonald's is the final ep, episode 300 or whatever, and Wiger's take is "yeah it's ok, three forks"

burger patty, cheese, onion, pickles and sauce. put the onion on top of the patty and then put the cheese on top of that while the patty's cooking. tomato and lettuce if you want but eh i dont usually bother at home. as far as sauces, i do mustard and ketchup usually, but you could also have special sauce or like mayo or something. this is bog standard assuming you're not having a bbq burger or something.

The My Dinner With Wiger ep was great, a really fun blend of fast food review and the 'boys waxing about film.

The bit where Wiger translates their fork ratings into school grades (which takes far longer than it should take two grown men) and realises in horror they've supposedly been underrating everything was Classic Doughboys

Edit: specifically, I want to hear their take on The Coffee Club, Red Rooster, Guzman y Gomez and the Australian branches of hungry jacks, taco bell, and maybe mccafe. There's also a local cafe chain that I think is just in brisbane that has like legit 60 things on their menu, everything has a unique and incomprehensible name without any logic to it, and it makes me furious when I drive past
