Not sure if it mandates being included, but the Champions Hockey League is having it's second consecutive season under the current incarnation. It features the top teams from all the European leagues, except the KHL which has opted not to join. It's currently in the second round of the knock-out stage. The tournament airs on ONE World Sports in the US, and Sportsnet in Canada.

fits posted:boston pride won the inaugural nwhl championship They also announced the NWHL is expanding to Toronto and Montreal. That's declaration of war against the CWHL. If they can pry away the local team stars away with a paycheck, then it will decimate the CWHL. I'm not so sure players will leave en masse like they did in Boston though, even though clearly the NWHL is much better at getting women's hockey more exposure.

Also the Calgary Inferno defeated the Canadiennes in the CWHL final in an upset. Didn't realize how much their jersey looks like the Flames until tonight. The CWHL announced earlier this season that they'll actually start paying players in 2 years, but hasn't released any further details. The coverage from Puck Daddy thinks this expansion is a pre-emptive strike by the NWHL to hit the CWHL before salaries go into effect. I wonder if this will actually push the CWHL to start paying players next year.
