Any word as to when they're going to fix how the game runs on consoles? It doesn't look nearly good enough to run as poorly as it does. I played it on my brothers Xbone and while it wasn't perfect it was semi acceptable. Bought during the psn sale this week and it just runs like a bag of poo poo.

Apparently there was a performance patch that just made it worse? Is there any communication from devs?

I solved my performance issues by whacking another 16GB of 1,666Mhz DDR3 in my PC to go along with the original 8GB of ~700Mhz DDR3 I got when I upgraded last year. They weren't kidding about the difference it makes.

The devs have abandoned the game, all they're doing is releasing the DLCs now.

Am I getting some kind of weird no cutscene bug? The story is jumping around seemingly at random. I rescue a defecting scientist and then suddenly there's a missile somewhere? Did I screw something up by liberating regions too early?

It's like the JC3 team had no idea what made people like JC2. It seems like they thought people loved it due to the story and missions and just doubled down on that instead of making a great open world to do whatever you want in. I'm still irritated that there is no civilian airport in this game, it's where I spent most of my time in JC2.

I don't really think there's any creative continuity between 3 and 2's story, because I don't remember any of the weird Panauan rebels putting their phones on speaker and dancing around the town square to "blend in".

Like, the characters in 2 are pretty straightforward, they just have weird habits. JC3 characters are like sitcom characters who've been around too long. You head into a scene with and it's like "Oh, Mario is here to do something retarded", "Oh, Annika is going to be sarcastic", and there's nothing more boring.

Also, they tried to make Rico more sympathetic, but that only makes it worse for when you attach a civilian to a helicopter blade.

The fact that it's suppose to be set in Rico's homeland ruins the whole chaos and destruction angle. If he's suppose to be liberating his own people, then it doesn't make sense for him to be stealing cars or shooting people cheering him on. It makes him seem like a total psychopath.

Well, for some reason I always thought that Rico was from San Cristobal anyway. He was always depicted as Hispanic in the first two games anyway, as opposed to being some sort of generic southern European.

I could live with the story and the characters. What was annoying was the lack of variety in the world. While JC2 suffered also from a decent amount of copypasta, it had at least a bunch of non-essential structures breaking things up, like the ski resort, the blimp thingy, Lost island and such.

Yeah, JC2 had the desert, farmland, snowy mountains, thick jungles etc. while JC3 only really has farmland/forest/rock and a very tiny amount of snow and beaches. I guess you could make the case that it doesn't make sense to have so many environments on a island in the mediterranean sea but it makes less sense to have it on a pacific/indonesian island like panau. The mountains had a nepalese kinda aesthetic to them, and the desert made no sense at all. But they didn't need to make sense, it's loving Just Cause. Make an area that's like the swiss alps, make an area that's like the spanish deserts or the north african deserts.

I'm the same in that I just end up missing the little things like a patch of winding rivers through the jungle (in SW of JC2 map, very fun to boat or fly through at a low altitude) or the racetracks, the ice lake, the missile dome, the casinos, the big cities, the international airport. JC3 has caves I guess, but they're so few and far between.

I just wish it had decent car physics. Like, yeah, most of the time I'm spending in the air or whatever but I used to love tearing around the island and doing sick flips off mountains and poo poo in JC2. Because you can rebel drop any car as well it's such a tease!

Yeah, Panau was a lot more fun to explore than Medici, but I do like the wider variety of military bases in 3. The radar bases built on the huge struts are my favorite, especially once you get the DLC Falcon jetpack.

Agreed 100%, not simply because I can't get the last loving unpopped achievement (the non repeating challenges one), but I don't know how you make an open world game of this type w/o allowing resetting/repopulating camps after completing it. Everything else about it was just so good, too.

e: The publishers attitude towards this game was completely bizarre. They seemed to utterly and completely give up on it even before it was released, with 50% off prices, releasing it against MGS5, and so on. I'm mildly surprised it got the patches that it did.

I feel like it was half priced-ish for awhile after release, because I grabbed it from GMG for $30 or something and was really wary of dropping that on the preorder since they'd done similar things with the Arkham Knight port before release.

He was more a psychopath in JC2, but in the same way that Rambo is. That Rico was a good character for a game about wanton violence and foreign interventionism

The revolution angle in JC3 is so thin that it doesn't change the gameplay at all. Like, now you raise a flag in the town square, and that's about it. All that newly liberated citizens do different is play the same song in every town.

I would prefer to think of JC3 as satire, but I can't really being myself to do it. I really loving hate that song.

Not available for me on Xbox one yet but they did release a new trailer:

Edit: The trailer looks cool but for anyone that has played the game it says "You will be swarmed by helicopters and boats while trying to aim and drive a boat with lovely control at the same time". The lightning gun looks "ok" though I guess. That bavarium missle thing you get from beating the game will still be the best though.

If they had not created the season pass before the game was out this game would never had seen any expansions at all. I think these expansions are made just so they can get something out of the door they can call an expansion. Both sky fortress and mech assault were underwhelming and janky.

It really is an underwhelming season pass. I mostly got it to support the devs and increase the possibility of a Just Cause 4.The best toy was honestly the jetpack. And I managed to get it before even beating half the game so I got a lot of use out of it. The mech is okay for trying to do a base takeover without leaving a vehicle. I can't see where the boat would come into handy.

Then each dlc only offers about 3 missions and 2-3 side activities. About 2 hours worth of fun each (I believe normal pricing is $12 bucks per DLC)

I also did buy the XL edition during one of those playstation promos where you can get $15 back if you spend $100.

It's not worth the extra $25 and if you had to get just one, you might as well get the air fortress, it's honestly the best one and has the most utility. You can even jetpack takeoff from water.

This is the way things are going I guess, season passes are usually more misses than hits (with the exception being that usually season passes for multiplayer games are okay if you are into the game enoguh and would have bought every single one anyway)

From what you guys have said, I definitely have to agree that this season pass has been pretty not great. The first DLC was promising, as the jetpack is an awesome utility (even if it does kind of trivialise the wingsuit) but the rest of that expansion was just kinda alright. Giant sky fortress, sure, cool, but not much to do except blow it up. Deployable combat drone, sure, but it's kinda worthless with all the other toys you have. And I forget what the bonus gun was, so it can't have been good. The mech DLC felt like not enough was going on there too, the mechs were a great novelty until you tried to get anywhere in one, the mech special weapon really stressed the physics in this game (which really shows on PS4, I have to say) and the bonuses were similarly unsatisfying. If they manage to make a lightning gun unsatyisfying, then I don't know what the gently caress.

Final verdict on Just Cause 3: :mediocre:

There are some fun and enjoyable gameplay additions, but ultimately the entire experience finds a way to feel pretty shallow.

Pretty much. I'm not really trying to bitch too hard about the game and it was okay for how much I paid for it.

But the fact is, the game as a whole is less interesting than just cause 2. The wingsuit is a huge improvement but the game itself feels less fun to explore. Less variety in environments, and there's lots of underutilized space, like for example the entire volcano, and half of the North Island.

Speaking as a ps4 owner, it feels like while the game looks better, it runs worse than just cause 2 on ps3. At this point, I'd just be happy with a remaster of jc2 on ps4.

It does feel like it could have used another year for polishing and adding more content to the islands.

The best thing I can say about this game is that if you love blowing up trains or bridges, or a combination of the two, no game exceeds jc3 in that aspect of enjoyment. Game is probably worth five bucks on a steam sale for that alone.

PARTY ALL NIGHT

EAT BRAINS ALL DAY

I suppose I'm in the minority here because I had way more fun loving around in 3 over 2.
This is mostly because of all the QoL improvements. The story is trash in both. 2 was larger but pretty empty and had a lot of copy/paste.
3 was much more appealing to look at and everything seemed like it belonged but not a ton biome diversity.

Backhand

Agreeing with the majority. The game was.... okay. I mean, I didn't hate it. There were legitimately fun parts and not many glaring weaknesses. But nothing really stood out either; in particular, I was thinking about it to myself last night, and outside of Rico and Sheldon I literally cannot remember a single character's name. And I only remember them because they were main characters, from JC2.

That's how forgettable the cast was.

Going onto the store to find this DLC, I found that there's also a new Reaper Missile Mech you can get. For £4. Not even part of the season pass. I mean, sure they selectively worded it so that you would only get the poo poo they knew they were going to make and reserved the right to charge you for anything extra, but I feel like buying a season pass should, you know, get you the whole game, bells and whistles included? Unless we're going to have a series of season passes that each get you a chapter of a game's DLC and then have a bigger season pass that gives you all the other season passes, making it impossible to know what you have and have not bought.
