The last VA location I went to mentioned that they might be able to get me LASIK when I first showed up there, but my dumb rear end forgot to inquire further. I'll have to ask the OIF/OEF folks at this one, because they seem to be more or less on top of their poo poo.

The stuff on the CD is not the same as the hard copy records they gave you! Make a copy of all that stuff and print out whatever's on the CD, then give those copies to the VA. Yeah, I know it's a lot, but it's not too bad to copy all of it if you have access to a decent copier at your office or school.

You have to use reverse psychology in a case like this one. Ignore all of the people telling you not to join the Army. You should definitely join. In fact, you should enlist for the 18X program and become a super high-speed operator. Yeah, he should have sent in a thing that basically states "I can't pay this back, because doing so would cause __________." I am going to have to do this in the next week because the VA thinks I was overpaid, and now just this week I found out that the school hosed it up further, so I've gotta jump down their throats before they make it worse.

Veterans Choice, maybe? I don't see why they wouldn't now that they seem to be much more open to paying for stuff outside their system anyway. It's worth a shot.

Gonna second the vet center suggestion. Somebody mentioned it in here a couple months ago and I gave it a shot. It's way better than the regular ol' VA that's hit or miss at best.

Did you submit receipts for those hotel stays? You should be reimbursed / advanced for those expenses. Paper trail, paper trail, paper trail. That said, don't hold your breath. After I got out, DFAS claimed that I never faxed (aside: faxes in the 21st century? come on) in my travel voucher and fought tooth and nail to take back all of the money from my next tax return. This was after they couldn't be bothered to read the dates on my terminal leave and never cashed out 33.5 remaining days of leave. Bunch of assholes.

Certain VA positions are designated as drug testing positions and you will be tested prior to an offer of employment, and also possibly later on. You will not be told that you are scheduled for testing. Others you probably won't be tested after you start.

Sarah posted:Your BAH and tuition is still 100% covered if you fail a class. If you drop the class, you have to pay the tuition and BAH back, and you don't get the GI Bill prorated back to you for what you are paying back. So basically, if you feel like you're going to fail and you want to drop to save your GPA, it's going to cost you. So you get to decide if you want to pay it back or eat the failure. What a great system! Then they send you a bill and say, "well, you should have said something!"

Answer: it's DFAS and they loving suck. You can try sending them a letter to formally dispute their claim, but most likely they'll "lose" it or outright ignore you and find a way to take your money, anyway. This is internet lawyer advice; don't get your hopes up. FWIW, I've tried this twice now for two separate issues and DFAS has dicked me both times, regardless.

Just got an e-mail from VBA stating that in-person C&P exams are being suspended and they will instead be conducted from home or by tele-health. It didn't really address how you should go about making that happen, though; might just want to reach out to your rep / VSO.

Fed HR dude here. I wouldn't worry about the waiver; if they're requesting it in the first place it's because they think it'll be approved. Although every agency does indeed have its obscure manpower tomes, they're usually designed as a way to work around whatever regulation or statute would otherwise prevent them from doing something. (There's exactly as much stupidity as you expect, but more often than not there's a way to make something work.)Evil SpongeBob posted:E2:. Also make sure they entered your SCD correct. It should be the day you start plus time served in military. So if you had 4 years and start Jan 1 2021, your SCD would be Jan 1 2017. You'll accrue leave faster that way. Short version: unless your retirement was based on disability (i.e. that's what's on your DD 214 or other documentation of release from service), you're not going to be credited for the entirety of your military service. At the very least, your SCD-Leave should be adjusted to credit you for deployments ("while participating in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge is authorized") (link, PDF warning). I don't mean to throw a wet blanket on anything here, but I also don't want you to get a nasty surprise later on, either. e: I type gud Naked Bear fucked around with this message at 21:45 on Aug 12, 2021 |
