For anyone who tries to use mental illness as their trump card for mass shootings, I present to you a video that should be your only response to these idiots:

I'm sorry, did I miss something? Did B-Rock the Islamic Shock order everyone's guns to be taken away already, or are there really this many stupid loving people? I see this poo poo all over Facebook, and it's taking every ounce of strength I have, to not call every single person who shares things like this a loving idiot.

Also for every adoption success story of a kid finding a loving home, there are two more where a kid bounces from home to home of abuse, or just winds up lost in the lovely system for the aformentioned reasons until they get dumped out as legal adults. The whole "Just put your kids up for adoption!" argument is really kind of awful and doesn't solve the unwanted pregnancy thing at all because not only do you have to go through the pregnancy and give birth to the kid, but now that kid has to grow up knowing their parents didn't want them and possibly get hosed over by the lovely foster home system america has. Some kids don't get bothered by it, others have their lives ruined by it.

To be fair, for all it's gently caress ups, Florida has the adoption system worked out pretty well.

If a kid "ages out" of foster care without being adopted, that kid gets a full ride scholarship to any of the public state universities, gets some type of living stipend for x amount of time, and a whole host of other amazing benefits. Granted, it's the least they can do for these kids, especially seeing as how they've grown up as wards of the state, but it's still a pretty sweet deal.

Is there/have there been any studies showing conservatism being linked to lower intelligence (based on school performance and grading)/low socio-economic areas or higher rates of poverty?

I know we've all seen the map of red states being primarily in the southern US, and the general lower income levels and lower rated education systems, but has there ever been any definitive study on this?

It always amuses me that Republicans seem to prey on the poor/less intelligent for votes by exploiting their inherent racism/classism/whatever-ism, yet completely and totally pander to the wealthy, and poo poo all over the poor.

I'm like, 99% sure that you need your parents permission to get an abortion (that's not medically necessary) if you're under 18, being that it's a medical procedure and all.

iirc, emancipated minors are the only ones who can do it without a parent present, unless the pregnancy is a threat to the mother's life, then a minor can get one without parental consent.

Unless it varies state to state, in which case ymmv.

Anal sex does mess with your blood pressure, and that can be pretty dangerous if you have a pre-existing heart condition. Also, there's a parasympathetic nerve (called the vagus) that stops by the heart on it's way to the upper digestive tract. It can be stimulated by bearing down like you're taking a poo poo, which slows the heart. Bearing down is a trick some people do to get things in their butt.

I guess what I'm saying is it's possible to be butt hosed to death.

Stimulation of the vagus nerve will drop your BP, but it will drop only to the point of syncope. Once you pass out, your sympathetic nervous system will kick in and raise it back up. This is a huge reason why old people will call 911 - because their significant other passed out on the toilet trying to drop a huge load. Within minutes though, your BP will raise back to what it normally runs at, and your heart rate will raise again.

So while it may be possible to be butt-hosed to death, you'd probably just pass out first.

Where I'm at, a doctor will write you a script for Adderall, literally if you just need to focus on studying for a test. It's mind boggling. From Community Development Zoning

quote:

Traditionally church zoning wasn't an issue. Places of worship were allowed "as of right" under municipal zoning codes in residential districts.

Thinking about the 1930s, when many U.S. cities initiated zoning, many households walked to worship services, and it wasn't disruptive at all to have a place of worship in a residential district. A few zealous municipalities created a zoning category called institutional, and placed that designation on churches, schools, and government buildings. Increasingly, special use permits are required to obtain permission to build or expand a house of worship, for several reasons:

1. Now, most attendees arrive by automobile, so traffic is an issue. We aren't religiously homogeneous as a people, so in a typical community, churches, synagogues, and mosques are holding services at many different times during the week. So the traffic situation isn't isolated to a couple of hours per week.

2. Not only are we more diverse, but also the congregations are taking on more and more roles. Many sponsor day care centers, parents day out programs, senior citizen activities, youth recreation, social services, and many other activities at all times of the day and week. Almost everyone comes and goes by automobile. So it's no longer true that a place of worship can't disrupt a residential neighborhood. Sometimes church zoning becomes very controversial, once specifics are known. Some controversies about places of worship will be based on the particular faith that proposes to build. If it's a minority faith in the community, you could be faced with a major dispute that will have nothing to do with land use.

To deal with traffic and commotion, many municipalities have started to add stipulations to the still-prevalent practice of allowing church zoning in residential districts. Most common among these would be requiring a special use permit or a conditional use permit. Strictly speaking, a special use permit merely requires an additional level of scrutiny, namely a public hearing and recommendation from the planning commission, and then another public hearing and action by the city council or whatever your governing body is called.

A conditional use permit requires these same procedures, but also spells out "conditions" that must be met at all times during the operation of the land use in question. However, in practice, the two terms are often used interchangeably. Either allows public input and questioning as to actual scheduling and frequency of events, and also handling of traffic and parking arrangements.

Sometimes noise is a church zoning issue.
