They couldn't find four white characters for Star Wars?

And the three that they did find:
-Incompetent teacher who completely bungled being a teacher so hard that his ward listened to some creepy old guy and became Darth Vader
-Jobber who died in the only film he appears in
-Literal criminal

Meanwhile, of the two recognizable black characters:
-Protagonist (I haven't seen VII yet, but I presume that he's in a leading role, presumably hero)
-Competent Jedi Master, created his own saber style that not only helps keep him on the Light Side, but actually channels his Dark Side leanings into that, and all around bad motherfucker

(In reference to my post about saying Merry Christmas)

I know LoB's quotes, but don't those people celebrate the new year? Like, day off on Dec 31st, Jan 1st, and all that? Even in Greece and France people use Happy Holidays to refer to the entire period, and neither country is shy about plastering Christmas on everything and anything in sight. "Have a good period of time ranging from ~23rd of December until ~3rd of January" is a bit unwieldy, and even "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" has time issues (is it the 26th? Sounds weird, and the new year is a week away still), not to mention it's two things and not one, so it's harder to drop with a goodbye or something.

But there is nothing like seeing someone who was born into privilege sit back and say "let me tell you something about all your lazy moochers out there!"

That tangentially reminds me of how people say that Bill Gates dropped out of college cause its computer courses weren't good enough for him. Yeah, it's true, but it leaves out the fact that he both had the means to get into Harvard, AND the means to safely make that call. He knew he was smart enough to do it, he had good ideas at good times, but he also was financially well-off enough to have that extra leg up.

Good on him for giving back though, and being aware of all that, he's just a good example of how success is a lot more than just being smart or creative.

Yeah, I was actually pretty convinced by the part that said that when we criticize misogynists by saying that they look like this [picture of neckbeard], we are implicitly letting misogynists who look like this [picture of handsome-or-at-least-normal-looking guy] off the hook. I hadn't thought of it that way before.

Maybe not in those exact words, but it is a point that people have made before, and it's pretty valid.
Basically it's two-fold:
a) It sets up a double standard, where it's ok to say "lol gently caress off neckbeard ugly virgin nolifer" to dismiss someone, despite knowing that "lol ugly fat dyke" is not ok
and
b) Similar to how Cumslut put it, it carries the connotation that ONLY neckbeards are awful. Don't agree with the first part of Cumslut's post about being afraid, but the last bit is kinda true. The James Deen thing was met with a dose of "b-but can it be??". I know that the guys from Sherlock have been asses on multiple occasions (no rape situations, but they're an easy example), and yet they're still fairly-well regarded, and don't you dare bring up that, say, Cumberbatch IIRC compared autistic people to Frankenstein's monster. Obviously, folks who look into it more realize and know that everyone can be a poo poo, but it's not a hard situation for someone to take advantage of for example.

I dunno, doesn't look much different to a lot of Magic: the Gathering cards to me.

Your original post mentioned how it shoves bullshit on cards because it can't do it on the rulebook. Magic in particular puts a lot of stuff in the rulebook if appears on multiple cards, rather than on cards, especially when you compare it to Yu-Gi-Oh! which... Doesn't.

Compare the YGO! card that was posted to these:

It helps a lot that Magic cards are properly formatted, with activated abilities always being "Cost:Effect", and triggered ones explaining their trigger conditions, and so on. Obviously, it's not all perfect (especially when more than one card is involved), but it tends to make sense much more often than not. Reminder text (the parentheses italicized stuff on Monastery Swiftspear) also helps with comprehension, giving a summary of what it does, even if it's not actual rules text (see the Madness example)
