Those two were just two examples, there are lots of little things it could be improved. I want mines to be more visible, for example. I want to set up the fast battle speed as default speed in the options. I want to quit the transfer screen with the q and not Esc (q works in the normal battle screen). I want an item indicator in the leader square (top left corner). Etc.

If you're looking for long-term fun look to dominions 4. This game is made to be fun for however long it takes you to play through most classes. The dom4 goons are making a let's play though. Too bad it'll take a month to get to an interesting enough place.

Mod support is supposed to be coming soon. Hopefully Illwinter will have enough sense to let the community access to enough bells and whistles to be able to clean up the game a bit and add plenty more content.

Anyone got the Pale Ones to work on higher difficulties? I think their lategame is dependent on oracles but I haven't even gotten a chance to get one since temples are so rare. Their 80 gem rituals are all so underwhelming and I can't even stockpile gems for a lvl3 mage. Maybe I should just stop playing on random age because I had a start where there was zero mines near me and I had to dig down alot of times to even find a spot in agarta with four gem deposits.

Some people already try to simulate it putting another level on the map itself like a set of caves or floating magical islands, which are connected to the rest of the map by a single entry point (think a province with a portal in it).

Out of all the factions I've tried they're easily the weakest. The lack of any significant ranged attackers really hurts them, and developing their mages is slow as molasses. It seems like the idea is you summon a cave maggot to tunnel into Agartha for easy access to a ton of gems, but they have so many drat rituals and gems accumulate so slowly it might be mid-late game before that's even possible.

Their statue summons are nearly useless since they're gem intensive summons that are tied to a single location.

I tried the Olm conclave ritual once. 160 sapphires to summon ~6 olm and another olm that's also an earth reader. That's a 70 sapphire 50 gold value for 160 sapphires.

It seems like you're supposed to rely on your king for expansion, but he's so much weaker than the troll king both offensively and defensively that combined with the lack of ranged units he can barely do better than an average starting army.

I've always liked Agartha/Pale Ones but Illwinter seems determined to make them terrible. Just read their unit descriptions: "These contemptible, obese worm people are far, far too stupid to ever amount to anything on the surface world etc."

Blood focused nations have the best late game summons. If your Barons, Barbs and Senator players aren't killing them off in the early game you'll be in trouble.

Just getting into the game and it's not AS complicated as it first appears. Pretty fun so far.

Is there a way to see what all the symbols or things on the map do? I can click units and see what the symbols mean, but there's little crowns, illuminati symbols, gold coins, etc on the map and I'm not sure how to see what those mean and what they do.

page 12 in the manual.

The illuminati symbol is vision, towers that gives you a 2-tile radius vision.
Gold coin is gold, doh.
Crown is a site that let's you recruit units in there.
Shield is site that gives defensive bonus to the units in battle.
Catapult a site where siege engines will be used.
Library gives you a chance every turn to have a wizard offer in the recruitment.
Temples the same with priests, shamans, etc
Cart of goods gives you a trade point.

Thanks, I somehow missed this in the manual! I figured out some (like gold) but wasn't sure about the rest.

Is there any way to attach heroes to armies led by other heroes? Or do I have to manually have my ice mage follow around my army each time? I tried Xing them and it caused them to be deleted, which was bad.

If you shift click when selecting commanders you can move them around as 1 unit. You can also just add one commander to another's army in the unit transfer screen.

Another library function, mages can study a new combat spell of a school they already know up to the level of the library for some gold. I think having a level 1 mage study a level 2 spell will also transform it into a higher tier of mage.

"Xing" them means going to the transfer windows and clicking on the unit until a X appears on top? That doesn't "delete" the unit, it just make it to follow the army around. But you can't access the leader in the general map, as you have noticed. If you return back to the transfer screen and click again on them until the diamond appears, they will reappear again.

The other and better way to do it is like Moon monster mentions, shift (or control) click on them on the general map screen to multi-select leaders. It's remember in between turns thanks god.

Dark ages:

Might be good for: Dwarves and gemcollectors, druid, witch, troll
Not so good for: sacrifice collectors, hand of glory collectors, Voice of El

Agriculture:
- Gold mine 25%
- Many farms and villages
- Few libraries
- Many brigands
Might be good for: Baron, hand of glory collector, Voice of El, Burgmeister
Not so good for: ?

Empire:
- 4-square Capital 100%
- Many cities
- Fewer small settlements
- Very few forests, ancient forests, swamps etc
- Very few brigands
Might be good for: Senator, sacrifice collectors, hand of glory collectors, Voice of El if you get rid of cardinal in capital, gem collectors (trade from cities).
Not so good for: Druid, witch, troll, barbarian

Fallen Empire:
- Haunted capital 100%
- Haunted cities
- Many Battlefields
- Many ancient temples
- Many special sites
- More brigands
- Fewer villages
Might be good for: Necromancer, druid, witch, troll, possibly senator
Not so good for: Sacrifice collectors, gold collectors

Monarchy:
- King's Castle 100%
- Many towers and castles
- A bit more forests etc
- More libraries
Might be good for: Baron, Senator, wizard recruiters
Not so good for: ?

Dawn of the new Empire:
- 1-square Capital 100%
- More cities
- Many libraries

Not so good for: druid, witch, troll, barbarian

Mountain/mine density is not affected by society, so gem collectors are strong/weak in a relative sense.

PD
Pale ones need temples to get Oracle recruitment at all, so they are probably best off in the fallen empire where there are many ancient temples around. They do not suffer that much from lower incomes as they mostly collect gems from mines.

Does the number of libraries affect anything beyond the likelihood of a spellcaster being among the possible recruit options? Like does it affect the power/nature of those recruits? More libraries = more better casters?

Just kinda wondering. I keep seeing the same casters in my recruit options and wondering if getting more libraries will open things up a bit more.

Im gonna get back into this nailbiting game I got as cultist. My army is one stack of 7 heroes then usually about 1 castings worth of sea leigons to hold the line. Ive got so much magic flying at the enemy that they're taking down hundreds of barbarians and druid troops. I found this item called Hydraskin Armor that I put on my high cultist that regens one hp per turn, as the softest unit in the army he woulda died a long time ago without it.

Somehow gotta spread out and take all the towns so I can get my sky demon thing to get the level 3 mastery

Is there a spell list somewhere? I'm having a game as Baron that's going pretty well -- it got off to a rough start with swarms of flying jaguars showing up every spring and fall to hatefuck my port cities to death, but conquering Mictlan dealt with that -- and now that I control two libraries I'm starting to get some mage recruits available. I have no idea which ones are worth investing in, though! Is Alchemy any good at level 2? High Arcana? Do either of them get rituals, or just combat magic?
