Knight Crawler leaps out of the garage sporting a magnetic tail, some sort of extra frame around his exoskeleton, and legs even more nimble than before. (Purchased Junk.Magnet, Carbyne.Structure, and Oiled.Gears.)

Some pig-shaped tank tries to distract him from the checkpoint, but he keeps his compound eyes on the prize and skitters forward to outrace both his opponents and the avalanche.

If it does, Carbyne.Structure would be an extremely suspect part. It is only twice the cost of other parts, but it still gives you two statpoints, whic in itself would be worth 10 points. If those HP are permanent, then it could potentially give you 16 extra HP, or 4 stat points worth. 6 statpoint for 10 corp points (even if it only would give 4 on average) is wayyy too much bang for buck. Also, such ridiculous amounts of extra HP would reduce the amount of MURDER which would be bad. Especially since most players would be buying Carbyne.Structure since it would be the best part to have by far.

Juliet sneered as Knight Crawler scurried about. She had no patience nor respect for the soft sciences (which were, in her mind, all sciences other than hardcore theoretical physics).

"Just wait and see, you overgrown worm. I'll show you and your handlers what real science can accomplish."

The answer, apparently, was precision implements that could easily be knocked out of working order by, say, a missile barrage to the face.

Singularity Assisted Ramjet: 1d4: 1

A single Gravitic Torsion Funnel, knocked ever so slightly out of alignment was all it took. Cold sweat started to form on Juliet's brow as she ever so carefully started to reel the singularity back into the engine. Understandable, since she was now faced with dealers of instant death from the front as well as the back.

Mobility: 1d20+1: 19

Thankfully, Juliet would never had gotten her doctorate if she wasn't particularly good at working under stress. The Gamma stayed on course quite admirably.

However, even though her main gambit had failed, even though she was staring down spacetime warping death right in front of her, she still had a trick up her sleeve. While Juliet was fleeing the avalanche quite admirably herself, she saw no reason to give her opposition the same chance. A small sphere was deployed by the Gamma. It floated on place for a second, until it bloomed into a gravity vortex that glued those near her right to their tracks. Using my Gravity well generator (Cryo.Burst)

...?

This is what the part does: "Racers immediately before and behind you automatically roll 0 on one Mobility roll this round"

The people adjacent to me at the beginning of this round are Karaz and Diamond Joe. Therefore, they are the ones the ones that will be affected. Karaz rolled one mobility roll, so by my reading of the item it means that roll is now 0 instead of whatever he rolled. Gruff man is copying Karaz's roll, which is now 0, meaning Gruff's mobility is now also 0. How am I reading this incorrectly?

Well, what goes up… you teeter over the edge of the immense mountain, facing down what your HUD assures you is a survivable route. Below and before you lies [Capital Angonveld], but before that you have to pass through a lush forest and before THAT you have to survive this descent.

RAMA sweeps their power across the field, invisibly. Your HUD lights up with a subtle but insistent image, strongly suggesting you up your rate of descent. You feel it before you see it, and then it’s all you can do to keep yourself on the road. Avalanche - a big one! Keep clear of it with some slick driving or defensive maneuvers, but above all keep moving - the Second Checkpoint is at the bottom!

The ailing star above beaming down on you, you race down a cliff. Snow and stones blast down the mountain behind you, tripping every proximity alarm in your cockpit. No two ways about it - one wrong move and you die. So, easy…

Don’t make a wrong move.

Ultrasafe (Karaz Volkov Kalashinovovich)
Mobility: 16 :siren:
Attack: Knight Crawler [Special Mix Moonshine +3, Only Attack Adjacent, Every Other Round, Whoops!, DT4 Burning] - 10
No Environmental Effect
Karaz drove almost straight down, the heavy rig pressing down into the mountain. The ride was surprisingly comfortable, but he had bigger things on his mind. Not.Now.Later finally triggered, letting through a rocking blast of kinetic energy. Karaz bit his tongue, and swore.

He put the pedal to the metal, blazing down the shuddering rock face. An incongruous, triumphant chirp alerted him to his victory - something about SMOOTHBORE and a new gun. The alert vanished almost as soon as he saw it, snapped up by Ultrasafe. He grimaced, then resolved to make himself feel better by roasting up some centipede! Pulling up to the beast, he rolled down his window and whipped out a bottle of his special brew.
([[Karaz 1d20+4=10] vs [Knight Crawler 1d20+1=12] = MISS!)
The wind whipped it away, to shatter harmlessly against the nearly-vertical stone - gently caress!
(Karaz takes 5 Damage. Ultrasafe wins the SMOOTHBORE Giveaway!)

Shill: 4 [Holo.Banner Bonus 3][/b]
No Mobility - Talk about a bad time to stop driving! Your vehicle is battered about by heavy stones! Take 4d4 Damage
Techs lit up broad spectrum communications, ready to give a final speech. The rocks pinged against its Vehicle’s hull, the sound getting deeper and more threatening. It didn’t matter - Techs was backed up through the Undernet, safe up on RAMA. May as well Shill its hearts out before reforms changed matters up. The mountains proved to be a perfect backdrop, mirroring the catalogue offered by Arcturus. Each stone crashing into the Tanker was analyzed and held up before the audience, highlighting its strength and durability. Even as the Tanker was smashed to bits, Techs spun it out to show the power of nature. Long before the broadcast cut off, Techs had made its point. And its Points.
(Techs gains (5+1)+(1+3) = 10 Points; Techs takes 4d4=10 Damage! Techs is Taken Down! Any Points it has gained transfer to the Corp!)
Techs and its Tanker are crushed by stones, erupting and spraying burning fuel all over the mountainside.

SPECIAL ACTIVATION [Four Rounds Until Recharge]
Gruff squinted in appreciation at the conflagration before him. He bet he could one up it! Locking onto Karaz’s weapon signature, he fired some Tagalong missiles along with his shots.
([[Gruff Man 1d20+2=6] vs [Knight Crawler 1d20+1=9] = MISS!)
The missiles went wide, crashing into the mountain and adding to the already insane landslide. Didn’t matter to Gruff, though - he was busy tethering himself to Karaz, letting him pull DESTRUCTO MECHANO down to safety. Taking a moment’s breather, Gruff pulled up scenes of the destruction taking place around him. Fire, explosions, and the mountain’s roars of pain and rage. Beautiful, just beautiful.
(Gruff gains 2 Points for Special activation)

Exiting the Garage, Knight Crawler easily dodged a predictable array of projectiles and attacks. He felt great, entirely unconcerned by the stones crashing down on him. They'd have to catch him, first, and he was waaay too fast for that!
Mobility >=20 - Wait - if you accelerate just right, you think you could juuuust make that jump!Skip to First Position
He ran and leapt off a jutting piece of stone - and fell. Not like an anvil, like a bird of prey. No way in hell they were catching him!

Diamond Joe began to feel a little hot under the collar - things were getting a little dicey out there. He opened his comm channels and smiled reassuringly at his audience. Despite his plastic smile, his wavering eyes and the sweat beading his skin made his attempted advertisement ring a little hollow. Even so, Ahistorical Preenactment offered some perverse interest to someone out there - they tossed a few points his way.

Clicking off the channel, Joe wiped the sweat from his brow and concentrated on driving. This, at least, he could do - he drove through the tumbling wave of stone like he was born to it. And perhaps he was, at that.
(Joe gains 1 Points from Shilling!)

The Academy of Titan (Juliet the Post Doc)
SPECIAL FAILURE [Four Rounds Until Recharge] - SINGULARITY DISASTER IMMINENT
Mobility: 19
Part: Gravity Well Generator (Cryo.Burst) - Karaz and Diamond Joe
Juliet spun up her Special - And it failed! And that was kind of a huge loving deal! No time to think about that now - a maybe disaster came second after a certain disaster, after all! She gunned it, and the Gamma tore down the hill, carrying her away from the avalanche. An alert gradually grew in intensity within the cabin, but Juliet ignored it for now - she had something to do. One thing she had to do before… well. She activated the Gravity Well Generator, and watched as Karaz and Diamond Joe ground to a shuddering stop, their momentum converted into downward force. The beeping rose to a fever pitch, and she winced.
SINGULARITY RAMJET DISASTER AVERTED (Lucky Bugger!)
The breath wheezed out of her in one gasp, and she gripped the wheel in both hands.

Karaz and Joe ground to a stop - and so did Gruff, sharing Karaz’s speed! All three of them attempted to force their traitorous Vehicles back into motion… but then the wall of earth was upon them.
No Mobility - Talk about a bad time to stop driving! Your vehicle is battered about by heavy stones! Take 4d4 Damage and Armor is reduced to 0 next turn!
(Karaz takes 4d4 = 6 Damage! (Not.Now.Later means Karaz takes the damage next turn) Armor is reduced to 0 next turn!)
Karaz drags the battered Taurus out of the rocks even as the whole mass tumbles down the hill. It’s all he can do to keep himself from vomiting as his Vehicle is battered and scoured by the massive boulders. But he’s ALIVE! Smearing blood from his eyes, he manages to right himself and roar down the hill.
(Diamond Joe takes 4d4 = 8 Damage! Armor is reduced to 0 next turn!)
The Transam is trashed. Joe was trashed. But he was ALIVE! Technically. He gazed down at his shattered limb, the bones piercing through flensed and burning skin. Certainly no Ahistorical Perfection™. Not anymore. His Vehicle half-slid, half-drug itself down the hill, trying desperately to hold itself together.
(Gruff takes 4d4 = 9 Damage! Gruff is Taken Down! Any Points he has gained transfer to the Corp!)
Gruff roared and fired everything left. The mountain erupted with a blast that could be seen from space, melting the remaining slide to slag and rocking the plains below. DESTRUCTO MECHANO was blasted into blazing powder, and Gruff died screaming in defiance. The cameras captured it all.

Juliet started in shock as the Points started to roll in. 3 Points for taking out Gruff, 4 Points for the Dethklok Initiative, along with a commendation from RAMA themselves. She gave a little fist pump, but kept driving - the Checkpoint was so close she could taste it!
(Juliet gains 7 Points! Congrats!)

It’s a tight squeeze in these animal-tracked trails, but with your mass and your speed these trees may as well be matchsticks. Still, picking a deft path through the undergrowth would keep your speed up, so it may be worth it. On the OTHER hand, who knows what treasures RAMA may have hidden within the trees. On Travel Through Time

Time travel is impossible. Even with the combined technological might of the three races, all the math shows the same thing - faster than light travel (and by extension, time travel) simply isn’t possible. The energy requirements outstrip by orders of magnitude the combined energy production of all peoples combined. Time travel is impossible - this is an absolute.

As with all absolutes, there are exceptions. Bypasses. Re-interpretations.

The immense age and widespread nature of the Antecedents led to the loose colonization of a sizable spread of the galaxy - though their population density approached zero. It wasn’t until their first contact with Humanity that colonization began in earnest. Casting their minds through the Undernet into bodies constructed for them by their allies, Humanity spread like a fungus from the scattered seeds sowed by the Antecedents. With instantaneous communication and effectively instantaneous transportation, faster than light travel became less important. As long as self-replicating probes were sent on ahead, even sub-light speeds were sufficient; what is a wait of weeks or centuries when an entire civilization can be transferred over instantaneously upon arrival?

Karaz decided, after the 2nd time of being battered around inside of the cockpit by stuff falling down a mountain mostly including himself, that when he survived this race (Which he of course expected to do very easily) that he was going to never go anywhere near any bloody mountains ever again as long as he lived. But truth be told it could have been a lot worse, as he caught brief glimpses of some of his other fellow racers exploding during painful tumbles across the slope, and the Taurus looked in one piece, if looking a little battered.

The insistant beeping drew him towards the Not.Now.Later module installed into his vehicle, it was very insistant, and was highlighting some welts along the vehicle's bodywork. And they were very big welts at that, Karaz decided he wasn't one for getting even more battered then he was already was right now, and reached for that toolbox under the seat.

Action 1: Rolling for SPECIAL
Special, 1d4 = 2
He was sure it was here somewhere

Rerolling special, 1d4 = 4
There! Ultrasafes glorified military grade duct tape dispenser, he got off of his seat and made his way over to the worst effected areas quickly.

Temporary Health, 1d10 HP = 2 HP

And a bump in the row skipped it out of his hand before he could do much with it, bugger! Well at least it would soften the blow a little he reckoned. (+2 Temporary HP)

Karaz considered Guarding up and letting the Protective.Scaffold take the hit, and then decided that right now someone was going to pay dearly for this brief discomfort. He looked behind him at the foppish man in his very impractical car and decided, 'Nah' he'd pop that particular bubble later, then he looked in front at the stupid looking test vehicle and remembered how he graciously decided not to ventilate her to deal with first place, and paid for it.

'Well', he thought reached for the controls in the roof, 'Do onto others...'

Lead anchorwoman Tarquinia Bloom spoke breathlessly and sharply into the camera, punctuating every sentence with as many quick, chopping hand gestures as she could manage. UnderPost's transition music swelled around her as the feed quickly cut down to the planet's surface and she switched her gaze from the holo-camera lenses to the projector on the ceiling, showing the action far below them in vibrant, violent, screaming color.

"Coming down out of the badlands we had a MASSIVE blow-up and Gruff Mann is OUTTA HERE, roll that—the screen was filled with the image of Destructo Mechano obliterating itself and everything else in a healthy radius—look at him go—the show's recorded TAKEDOWN soundbite played—and the racer from the APS is in deep, deep trouble heading into the next stage. And we're in for a rolling rabid ripper of a stage this time 'cause it's straight on through a dense forest until the trail reaches the capital city. STAY TUNED for more race coverage, folks!"

Tarquinia was wearing her best, most eye-searing lead-anchor outfit, a bright yellow shirt with black pants and a red jacket with gratuitous shoulderpads and vibrant pinstripes. The pinstripes were actually display-thread, of course, and right now simply glowed shiny, almost pearlescent gold.

Her vice-anchor Mer'Kri floated behind her, his 2D wings beating lazily as he stared up at the display. He was quite happy to kick back until he was called on to talk.

The coverage faded out as the action subsided and the channel flipped seamlessly into a commercial break.

"RAMA—proud sponsor of this cycle's Sundown Run. Remember RAMA…"

The ad's narration was cloyingly warm and fuzzy.

Tarquinia stepped off the holo-set into Undermail's local office, wordlessly grabbing a bottle of water from a nearby assistant. Her personal secretary Diana silently fell into step behind her.

Intern, are those files ready?” She shouted. He was somewhere around, surely.

“You have them now, Madam Bloom!”

Brad was perched on the office ceiling, of course. As fun as it was to run around on the floor among the busybodies, he had work to do. His communicator beamed the files he'd assembled straight to Madam Bloom's tablet. Madam Bloom was such an excellent boss, she was always full of energy, and there was always so much fun stuff happening around the office. What more could an Antecedent ask for?

“Good, what's our sidebar look like?”

Tarquinia's holo-contacts threw up a scrolling wheel of minor stories that would go up next to the following round of coverage. People parted in front of her as she stared aimlessly up and flicked through them with quick eye movements.

“Good, good, good—no, BORING. I don't want to hear about that idiot's new tour. Pirates, where are we on the pirates?”

“Third Unit is getting that segment ready now, Tarquinia.” Diana said from behind her.

“Good! Get that in there. Every little piece has to keep people watching. Numbers, we need numbers.”

She dismissed the readout just as she burst through the doorway into the control room.

“Great work, Tarq!” Damian said.

Her editor jumped to his feet; he'd been watching the displays with his feet up on his desk. Every feed they were showing was projected on the wall, and a few more to show what kind of footage their competitors were getting. The team of control room workers were lined up against that wall on their consoles, busy monitoring and collating new data or finalizing the lineup of programming that the UnderPost server was busy beaming out to the universe.

“They need more loving racers down there or people are going to quit watching this poo poo!” She snapped.

Damian tried to soothe that worry.

“They'll get more. Every idiot in the universe wants to drive in this fuckin' thing. Have a cigarette.”

He offered her one from his pack, nestled in his breast pocket. Damian always offered her a cigarette when she came into the control room. It calmed her down quickly—the good new blends were very calming, and he only smoked the best. He had inadvertently conditioned her to want to smoke whenever she was there, but the staff hypnotist had assured him that would be reversible.

She took it and Diana lit it; Tarquinia's best anchor outfit didn't have any pockets. The smoke bloomed artfully after it shot from her nostrils and curled around them in spiraling clouds.

“We are getting amazing numbers off of this. You keep doing what you do best. They're lining up the new racers for the drop right now.”

“Good. But we need storylines. Any big arguments between corps yet?”

“We're working on that. We'll put something together.”

That forest you saw from the peak looms over you as you rush towards the [Capital] - saw-toothed leaves of red and purple sprout from bulbous protusions of vegetation, seemingly growing from every surface regardless of angle and then curving up towards the star. On the other other h-woah gently caress watch out for that flock of birds! Creatures abound here, you’re sure to get some samples!

Everywhere you look, you sees signs of disturbance - that blast on the mountainside a while back really did a number on this place. Toppled trees, animals dead from the blastwaves, recently shattered rock faces… Even so, it’s just about the quietest place you’ve seen in a while. It would be idyllic, if you didn’t know what was coming in just a few short days.

Attack: Juiliet [Twin Mounted Crowd Dispersers +2, Inaccurate, Gets Hot!] - 22
No Mobility - You opt against racing like a madman and take a quiet drive. It’s kind of nice. Heal 1d4 HP
Karaz didn’t pay on whit of attention to the countryside as his Vehicle crushed through the remaining undisturbed vegetation. In fairness to him, Not.Now.Later had just triggered, sending a blast of kinetic energy rocketing through the chassis. Putting out the small fires as best he could (and impressing those above with his (relatively) cool head under (literal) fire), he slumped back in his seat, letting the autopilot carry him for the moment. He took a swig of his stash and felt a little better, a little clearer.

But it hadn’t done any favours for his mood! He took aim at the Racer closest to him, and let loose a blast from blazing-hot chainguns.
([[Karaz 1d20+3=22] vs [Juliet 1d20+0+10=11]/d4 = 2d4+1d3 = 7 Damage (Getting hotter - Chance of critical failure increased to 9)
She raised her shields, saving her from the brunt of it, but smoke poured from countless holes just the same. He licked his teeth and grinned.
(Karaz takes 6 Damage. Karaz heals [1d4] = 3 HP. Karaz gains 2 Points for Special Activation!)

No Mobility - You opt against racing like a madman and take a quiet drive. It’s kind of nice. Heal 1d4 HP
Juliet saw the attack coming from a mile away and flicked on her shields. Safe from attack, she took a moment to catch her breath. The Singularity Failure could easily have turned her inside out (or worse) - she was definitely frazzled. She took the time to look outside, to watch the braver creatures watching her from the trees as she tore past them at speeds they could not comprehend.

And then her shields were pierced, her Vehicle alarms blazing at a maddening tempo! She fell forwards, fingers racing over the controls. What had gone wrong!?
(Juliet heals [1d4] = 1 HP!)

Joe was down, but not out. A normal baseline human would be dead from blood loss or shock, but he wasn’t normal. He was Diamond Joe loving Biden, a credit to the APS labs! He locked the accelerator at maximum speed and tore his way through the forest, pounding trees and shrubs and animals to mush in his frantic rush. Meanwhile, he worked his patented ‘Diamond Joe Ingenuity’ to fix the worst of the fires. He forced a bloody smile and winked at the cameras. Yessir, things were looking up!

The newest Racer dropped out of the cannon shell and hit the ground smoothly, gracefully keeping his momentum. Wasting no time, the masked racer opened up at the weakened Vehicle ahead of him.
([[Mr. Black 1d20+3=13] vs [Diamond Joe 1d20+2-5=2]/d4 = 2d4+1d3 = 4 Damage) (Welp!)
The nearly silent machinegun fire tore its way through the damaged armor and turned the Rider within to mush. The TransAm buckled and detonated. (Diamond Joe is Taken Down! Any Points he has gained transfer to the Corp!)

Mr. Black nodded and sped through the burning wreckage. One down.

Secure in his superiority, Knight Crawler speeds through the forest looking at whatever wildlife hasn’t been scared off. From simple observation, he sees that the Rounder’s basic body plan is by far the dominant one on Astrilia - four (or five) limbs around a central, eye-bearing body. Rotational symmetry in one direction, bilateral symmetry in the other. More advanced observation will need to wait - every sample he tries to take at this speed simply splatters to bits on his capture claws. No matter - even the slurry was useful data. It was entirely possible that even those trace samples contained the last legacy of a species unique to this world, after all - valuable, to the right buyers.

’Search’ or ‘Biology’ < 15 - Oh dear, they’re pretty fragile... Nothing
The second new Racers dropped from the sky in a contracted ball, tearing its way through a herd of four-legged walkers. They lowed in alarm and cart-wheeled away, pushing down weakened trees as they went. The Walking Eye shook off the gore and broke into a skittering run, each stride taking it dozens of meters. It scanned and categorized the flora and fauna as it went past, scanning for optimal routes… or tried to, at any rate. The dripping gore of the dead grazer obscured its vision - it reached up and wiped it away without breaking stride.

The forest dropped away, merging smoothly outlying roads and infrastructure for the city looming up ahead. But WHO IS IN THE LEAD?

(One vacant spot! Any takers?)

The walls of the Rounder capital city approach. Your HUD lights up with hundreds of data points - cannons, surmounting the walls. Primitive, chemical projectile weaponry. Large caliber, though, easily enough to take you down with focused fire. But you have another problem - those gates are closed, and look terribly heavy. Sensors indicate the walls are several metre thick concrete, as well. Too bad - your Route Plotter takes you through the city, so that’s where you’re going!

You’ll have to blast through the wall while avoiding cannon fire - or redirecting it at your opponents with your Skills. If you don’t manage to breach the wall before First Place gets to it… well, let’s just say they’ll make a hole through it anyhow! Speaking of those cannons - RAMA can easily wrest control of them, for a price… and what’s 5 Points to attack an opponent, anyhow? Besides, you might get some of their stuff!

News from around the Galactic Rim
  • Academy of Titan Racer nearly scores Triple Takedown - ~COC(0.0,0.0,0.0,-2.0)
Down on Sundown Run Astrilia, one Racer’s clever moves very nearly doomed three of her opponents. Through judicious use of a gravity well generator, the Academy Racer managed to trap her opponents in a deadly (and RAMA-sent) landslide, destroying one of them and leaving another close to death. As is well known, a Triple Takedown has only been accomplished twice - the first a full four cycles back at Sundown Run Kizattz (which incidentally also caused the death of the Racer in question) and the second (and arguably the only true case) nearly two cycles ago at Sundown Run Dro-Uh-G-Ip. The Racer, Vinca-6, began a chain reaction that destroyed nearly an entire continent, sweeping away her opponents. Her death several rounds later was a much-lamented tragedy.
  • Eglin Station Destroyed - ~COC(-4.3,+2.1,+3.1,+0.0)
Eglin Station, victim to pirate attack several nanocycles ago, was annihilated by AESC HEARTBEEP. The pirates’ demands were broadcast from the Station’s broad-spectrum antennae directly to the nearest HEARTBEEP branch - broadly, they demanded compensation in exchange for the release of hostages. The AESCs response was twofold, relayed to us through a representative terminal. First, an advanced form of Undernet Manipulation was used to extract the hostage’s Egos for later re-sleeving. Next, the Station was simply nano-dissassembled along with the remaining pirates. A replacement station will be made available in approximately one microcycle.
  • BREAKING: First Trans-Race Resleeving Confirmed - ~COC(+225.3,-436.3,-6.3,0.0)
Doctors confirm that !Oshle Jesk, Human native of Faal, has successfully resleeved into specially prepared Antecedent body. What’s more, in an effort to avoid controversies and judicial delays, the operation had actually been completed over two millicycles ago! !Oshle, who now calls themselves Swarf had this to say on the matter.
“To those who decry my actions or who call me aberrant, I state to you that boundaries in this world are false and unworthy. We live with gods among us - for calling an AESC anything else is foolishness or self-delusion. In times such as these, we must strive for experience and knowledge, and holding ourselves to the boundaries of form or race is tantamount to blinding ourselves”
Hardline Antecedent, Human and Kar’Tun groups are calling Swarf every name under the stars, the most polite of which implies he is merely doing this for media attention for his band. Trans-Race Resleeving has been attempted several times in the past, each with near instantaneous partial or total Ego fracturing. Swarf’s apparent Ego intregrity is an exciting development, and one which we will follow eagerly.

'Hah eat it science person! That'll show em, making me fall down mountains and stuff. ' Thought Karaz, as he put out fires and hammered out dents in his truck. All in all despite the shock of being caught in the avalanche he has managed to reduce the amount of damage taken to merely 1 point. That must count for something right? He should probably find where that bloody tape dispenser went but now there are more pressing matters.

Such as this huge gate bristling with guns and boy do those dudes manning the walls look mad, Karaz decided that the best way through was forward. Or the best way forward was through. He reached for the guns and paused, he couldn't quite read what the warnings were saying but considering they were flashing big warning lights and the smell of heated metal was filling his cabin he decided that opening up with the crowd dispersers might not work as intended, in that he'd probably get one round off and then it would probably melt or something.

So he picked up a bottle of his special brew, flipped open the fuel cap, opened up and stuck in the bottle into the hole until the engine started to make noises.

He flicked down the front dozer blade, and then floored it.

I'm sad to hear that some of our competitors are attacking Crispy Creek with slander and libel, making absurd claims that we secretly seeded this planet with neuroactive parasites to control the minds of its native lifeforms. It should go without saying that these assertions are false as they'd be violations of both the rules of the race and inter-quadrant ecological law. “You're on in three, two, one, go.”

“Hello, greetings, and salutations, viewers!” said the talking bush with a sonorous bass voice. Huge round eyes peered out from under its leafy folds. “We're live from the first leg of the race's third stage as our eager contestants plunge onwards into glorious, glorious danger. Here at the bottom of the mountain's slope they're rushing headlong into a thick and verdant forest, full of excitement, full of exotic flora and fauna--” it shook its branches for emphasis “--full of points!

The bush sprouted from a massive pot striped with red, blue, and yellow bands, which sat centered on the broadcast floor where a desk and chair would normally be. C12-Exen loomed forebodingly in the clear windows behind it.

“In the lead bashing his way through the forest is Knight Crawler, who pays no heed to other racers as he tries to collect some—ooh, looks like he doesn't have much of a green thumb, does he? I'm glad I'm up here and not down there with him! Hehuhuhah!

We've got some minor jousting between some other racers behind him and it even looks like Diamond Joe might pull through this stage okay, he's making some—OH, poo poo

TAKEDOWN, TAKEDOWN, TAKEDOWN went the sirens, as red and orange lights flashed around the stage.

The bush started to rustle violently and then erupted, branches parting and falling to the ground in a spray of leaves. Mer'Kri burst from inside it and his animated disguise evaporated with a puff of smoke, leaving his ordinary toga and winged sandals. He did a joyful somersault as the violent explosions replayed above and behind him.

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIT'S A TAKEDOWN! Hasta la vista, Diamond Joe!

That one came straight from one of the new racers this round, Mr. Black from Delta Solutions. He's just dropped out of the sky and gone for the competition, just like that! Our other newcomer this round is a spindly little ball of legs from Escutcheon that's dropped right into the race and started looking for, oh, oh man, that's not pretty. I don't think there will be many good samples from them. And now we're through the forest! And it's on to the city, and just look at what a nice welcome the natives have ready for them!

This has been your race report, viewers! Stay tuned for the highlight reels and stat-crunching! Brought to you today by HEARTBEEP.”

In the control room, Damian twirled a pen through his fingers and clicked it rhythmically as Mer'Kri went though his segment. When it went to commercial he spread his arms sharply, as if the office was his orchestra pit.

Great! Okay, folks, that's 3-1 in the bag. Sal, you're up! Show me what you've got.”

They were using three swarms of drone cameras for the run, leapfrogging over each other and finding new positions as the race progressed. Sal steered the Yellow Team, which was now beaming images of Angonveld's outer walls, tall and strong and bristling with cannon.

Damian flicked through the footage peering over Sal's shoulder at his desk.

“Get us closer, it's hard to track the action from up here.”

“I'm zoomed in!”

“I don't care, get us closer. The drones still track better from down lower.”

“I'm keeping away from those guns, they might see the drones.”

“Hah! To hell with the guns, they'll be busy enough once the racers get in there. Drones are cheap. Footage is golden.”

“You're the boss.” Sal started tapping keys, bringing his swarm of hovering camera-drones closer towards the outer walls. They stood ready to capture the approach from every angle.

“Fantastic.” Damian patted him on the shoulder. “That's what people want to see.”

“Sir!” Someone called from across the room. “Social media stats are coming to your desk now.”

“I gotta check those. Keep it up.”

He jogged back over to his desk console and saw the numbers streaming in. Their metrics were good. Not great, but good. The suits upstairs were going to want more.

The metrics showed him viewer response to each corporation's racer. That, that was what he needed. With a few taps he flashed the same info to Tarquinia and Diana, then jogged towards the lounge. They needed to talk tactics. At the top of the stats was… he of the flashy entrance, #mrblack.

What do you mean, what does it do? It's a walking eye!

UNATTENDED MODULE DETECTED. ATTEMPTING FIELD UPGRADE...

The Walking Eye skittered into the path of the bouncing Red.Paint, a bucket dropping from its body. Would it be able to catch it?

Red.Paint - 1d100+5: 31!

OBSTACLE (ARMED; CLASS 1) IN PATH. BYPASS: ACTION FORBIDDEN BY OPERATOR. SCALE: UNTENABLE. GUERRILLA: ACTION FORBIDDEN BY OPERATOR. ATTEMPTING FULL SCALE ASSAULT...

The Walking Eye turned its eye towards the gate and activated the Oo-ray. A series of expanding energy rings came forth, the calming sound of the ray's signature "oooooooo" sound filling the air.

[1. Oo-ray (Gate): 1d20+1= 6]

The surface of the gate bubbled and crackled slightly, but there was no significant damage. Noticing its attack was mostly ineffective, the Walking Eye began to focus on avoiding the Rounders' counterattacks. The Eye's metal body took on a camouflage pattern and it slowed its movement.

[2. Stealth Recon: 1d20+5 = :siren:25:siren:]

Perhaps the Rounders would find something/someone else to shoot.

Juliet the Post Doc
HP: 2/18
Mobility: 1
Armor: 0
Attack: 2
Parts: Gravity well generator (Cryo.Burst)
Corp points: 7
Racer points: 0
Gifted points (racer): 1
Special cooldown: 1/4

Despite her ride breaking down around her, Juliet nevertheless kept a steady course, shutting down the shield and diverting power back into the engines.

Mobility: 1d20+1: 13

Juliet made an attempt to vacuum back the lost parts to keep the Gamma from reducing itself to scrap, but unfortunately, the Graviton Spinners were bent slightly out of order due to the assault and the results were dismal at best.

Schwarzschild’s vacuum: 1d20+5: 8

Juliet scrunched her face a bit. Perhaps making the parts necessary for self repair be so fragile was not a very good survival strategy. Something to consider.

[1. Mobility: 13]
[2. Skill: Schwarzschild’s vacuum: 8] Using this to heal

Red paint pickup: 1d100+4 40

Mr Black zoomed to catch the salvage from Diamond Joe. Apparently his efficency had been rewarded higher up. Still, there was the issue of the upcoming wall. Mr Black fiddled with the settings on the bike, trying to get the Disappearance field to activate. He fiddled with it for a long time, coming dangerously close to the range of the cannons...
