LastInLine posted:Yeah that I can understand. I only care about SMS and notification mirroring (not even really the actions for them) so I'm not going to pay either. The SMS limit is low but I understand that's an ongoing cost for them so I get it. It's a good thing I use few SMSs per month I guess. The general consensus seems to be that people aren't mad at them for asking for money; people are mad at them for how they went about it. Look for the AMA they did on reddit recently. Lots of really useful feedback that's probably just going to be ignored.

I want to get my girlfriend a subscription to YouTube Red for Christmas, but it doesn't look like there's any easy way to do it. I can't find any evidence of gift subscriptions being a thing, but I also can't find any information on payment structures. I know it's $9.99/mo, but is there any option to buy more than a month at a time? As it is, it looks like I'm going to have to sneak onto her computer to purchase it and put in my own credit card, but I'd like to at least be able to buy like a year upfront so I won't have to worry about managing the subscription if there's another credit card breach or something and I end up getting a new card again. Is that possible?

I saw lots of things saying that YouTube Red included a Play Music subscription, but I didn't realize a Play Music subscription included YouTube Red. I guess they're effectively the same thing? That's helpful, thanks!

Tunga posted:Definitely look at this if you're both going to be subscribing as it's cheaper than two individual subs and you can add six people to it. This is actually the route I ended up going once I realized that Play Music and YouTube Red were the same subscription. I just bought it for myself and added her. Bonus: it looks like the music portion of the subscription is comparable enough to Spotify that she's going to save $10/month as well.

I don't really understand how the mobile site is so much better than the app. It can do virtually everything the app can do, and in some cases more (such as rotating photos you've uploaded). I need to look into Chrome notifications for Mobile Facebook and see how reliable that is and I may just ditch the app completely (or just use it for easy photo sharing).

I'm not sure if this is a Calendar thing or if it's more a general Android thing, but during the work week I have a lot of calendar appointments that include conference calls. Most of these include dial-in numbers in the form of: 1-866-555-1212,,123456# Typically this would dial the number, wait a couple of seconds, then enter the conference code. But for whatever reason, when I open the appointment in Calendar, only the first part of the number if clickable, so I always have to do the second part manually. I know Android understands commas because I've got my own personal conference bridge saved as a contact in that format and it works properly, but the problem seems to be in the conversion of phone numbers to links. Is there anything I can do about this (use a different Calendar app, etc)?

docbeard posted:I probably wouldn't have bought a Youtube Red subscription on its own, but Google Music is the best $10 ($15 now because family plan) a month I've ever spent, and I'm certainly not complaining about ad-free Youtube videos on top of it. I bought the family plan mostly so my fiancee could watch all her favorite YouTube videos on the Chromecast (or her phone) without the insane amount of ads that we were getting. I'm certainly enjoying that benefit as well, but I'm using the music subscription a heck of a lot more than I ever expected I would!

hooah posted:Warning: might interact strangely with Lollipop+'s built-in priority mode or Motorola's enhancement of it. I don't know anything about Motorola's priority mode, but it definitely doesn't play well with Samsung devices on Lollipop. There are bizarre workarounds in place that make interacting with notifications frustrating (like deleting a gmail message from the notification shade). I actually ended up ditching it entirely for the time being, hoping that when Marshmallow is released LightFlow will work normally again. Note: This is not applicable if you are rooted. LightFlow works great rooted.

I ended up having to uninstall LightFlow because it was preventing some functionality with my Gear S2. If I rooted my Note 5, I probably could have gotten both to work, but then I'd lose Samsung Pay. I was basically stuck with a "pick 2 of 3" scenario: 1. Customized notification lights 2. Working notifications passed to Gear S2 3. Samsung Pay Since even point 1 isn't 100% (Samsung does weird stuff that LightFlow has to work around), I ended up going with 2 and 3. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the 6.0 update will make LightFlow usable for me again and that Samsung won't screw it all up, but I'm not holding my breath...

bunky posted:Are there any decent Light Flow alternatives? I just got an S7 and the app is barely usable now. Out of curiosity, what's the issue you're having? I gave up on LightFlow on my Note 5 running Lollipop because the only way to make to make it work was to enable the "Samsung workaround", which ended up breaking a lot of other things. Since Marshmallow, I've been able to disable that workaround and it works right about 70% of the time (the other 30% I still just get a generic flashing blue LED). But it doesn't break anything, and without it I get the flashing blue LED 100% of the time, so I just go with it...

Red Warrior posted:Yesterday the devs already retweeted a 'this is why Android can't have nice things' comment due to people having some issues with that. It's like I get where you are coming from as a dev trying to move to a new platform, but when you are essentially late to it and ask us to pay more long term for the same features than the iOS users, and for what most of us already have, don't be surprised if there's a bit of a backlash. Well that's not the attitude I want my app developers to have. I don't even totally understand what the draw of Dark Sky is. Some kind of vaguely defined crazy accurate weather prediction service (according to them). I did see something in the settings about using the phone's pressure sensor to send data to their service, so I guess that's part of their solution. It'd be nice if Weather Timeline could just poll that service for its info...

The impression I got was that they had their own proprietary "hyper accurate" system. If that's the case, it'd be cool if Weather Timeline could tap into that. If it's just forecast.io then psh, one less reason to care about Dark Sky.

There was a discussion a while back about how ES File Explorer has turned into something horrible. Well, now they're apparently doing lock screen adware. http://www.xda-developers.com/psa-latest-update-to-es-file-explorer-brings-adware-to-your-lockscreen/ So, if you haven't moved on to something less shady yet, maybe this will help.

I mean, it's not hurting anything, but it seems kind of weird. I don't remember it doing that before, but I went on another road trip yesterday where it happened again.

Unfortunately, that started having synching problems as well, so now we're using the Kroger app, which has started having syncing problems... Why is this something drat hard? There was a big update to Out of Milk that introduced all sorts of syncing problems. I kept it installed but basically stopped using it and was too lazy to look for an alternative. A while back (after I noticed several new updates), I came back to it. It looks like all of the syncing problems are resolved now, at least for me and for my fiancee. So if you're having trouble with other apps, maybe give Out of Milk another try. We actually have two shared lists right now (groceries and a sort of wedding registry wish list) and both are syncing flawlessly between us.
