Mhmm
Launches on the first of December

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwdRh_sDVa8

The latest in the Rainbow Six line since Vegas 2 in 2008.
Siege is a small TvT Multiplayer only game that Ubisoft (Yes it uses Uplay...) is hoping to rival Counter Strike in the competitive gaming scene. Available on ps4 and xbone alongside PC (No crossplay) the game’s pretty fun! Launching with 20 operators (10 defenders 10 attackers) and 11 maps with night and day versions.

At the start of each round you get placed on either the attacking team, which means you get to run around like headless chickens driving mini drones to find your objectives and marking enemies whilst the defending team gets to barricade and set up traps for 30 seconds before the main game starts, if the defending team move outside of the building they appear on the map, forcing them to play defensively.

There are currently 3 game modes out at launch.
Capture the hostage: You must escort an ai hostage to a safe zone.
Zone control: Capture a defended zone from the defending team.
Bomb defusal: Defuse one of two bombs placed on the map.

All these modes can be solved by eliminating the enemy team or (if defending) time expiring instead of doing the main objective.

Casual mode is just that, jump into a game and get matched against people without the matchmaker taking skill into account, you don't get to choose where to defend.
Ranked puts you up against people at around the same rating as you, you get more rewards and as the defending team you get to choose where you want to defend at the start of your rounds.

No SP
Yep! No single player at all unless you account for you VS ai in terrorist hunt, which can also be played with buddies in multiplayer.

Attackers:
  • Twitch - Her special is the shock-drone, it's like the regular RC drones minus the ability to jump but it has a short-range taser which does a small amount of damage(I think 20?) to players and is capable of destroying enemy equipment.
The shock drone is a great opportunity to learn the maps while staying relatively safe and not relegating yourself to a role that is entirely reconnaissance(though a communicative drone user can make things incredibly easy for the attackers).
For weapons she has quite a lot of options, a shotgun, a full auto rifle, and a semi-auto rifle, the latter of which can give you some idea about whether or not you'd want to unlock someone like Glaz(a sniper) who uses a similar weapon.

  • Fuze - His special is a cluster-bomb attack, it is placed on one side of a wall/door and shits a few grenades out the other side. It's a pretty situational ability, since using it on a room that your team-mates have just stormed is a good way to get a few friendly-fire kills, and using it on a room with a hostage in is a good way to bring the round to a quick loss. Despite the caution with which you need to use him, he's still a good choice to unlock early because of how devastating a well used cluster-bomb is.
For weapons, Fuze has the option of an LMG, a full-auto rifle, and a bullet-proof shield(which is used alongside your side-arm), playing with the shield should give you an idea about whether or not you would like to play Blitz or Montagne who do not have weapon choices that forgo a shield.

  • Thermite - His ability is to breach even reinforced walls, because of this he is probably the only character who would reasonably have a place in every attacking line-up. For that alone he is worth unlocking. He also stands out for being one of two Operators who can carry Frag Grenades, the other being Sledge. In terms of weapons you're looking at either full-auto rifle or shotgun.

Defenders:
  • Mute - Has the ability to put down Signal Disruptors, which prevent the use of breaching and thermite charges within their range, as well as disabling any RC drones that stumble into their range. Disruptors are a great way to leave the enemy team somewhat aimless at the start, they're good for redirecting enemy attention, to either themselves in the case of enemies coming to doors with jammers nearby(in which case they give away the enemy position when shooting at them), or away from less defensible entry-points.

  • Rook - Deploys a bag of armour for people to improve their survivability with, supposedly it makes them more likely to end up merely downed rather than killed.

  • Doc - Can revive downed players from a distance, and can revive himself when downed. Because of the former he serves well as a defender who hangs behind the frontline and because of the latter he's great as a solo roaming defender.

  • Kapkan - Can set up laser-mines on doorways which is great when you're a beginner and playing other, less attentive/knowledgeable, beginners and has the option of a remote detonated explosive, which is effective against shield-users, though generally Smoke is probably a better shield counter since he can have the explosive as well as having remote detonated poison bombs.

I'm really on the fence with this one. A lot of poo poo with servers etc kind of worries me, but more importantly playing a tactical shooter with dumb pubbies, as most of my friends just aren't into them. I noticed during beta most of you seemed to be playing on PC. Any goons getting this on PS4?

Game has a ton of potential needs some significant patching.
Servers seem questionable and the fact that both teams look basically exactly the same and the UI queues are nearly identical when you aim at friendlies and enemies is irritating.

Could use a hardcore game mode or something too.

Looking forward to playing again when it's on sale and some of the kinks have been worked out.

Does it have a server browser/can you have custom servers or is it more like CoD?

There Diomedes aimed and stabbed, he gouged him down
his glistening flesh and wrenched the spear back out
and the brazen god of war let loose a shriek, roaring,
thundering loud as nine, ten thousand combat soldiers
shriek with Ares' fury when massive armies clash.
GMG has it for $40, which I think is a more appropriate price point for the game.

The CS comparisons do this game a huge disservice and they won't really impede on each others player base at all past the initial month or so, I think.

Yeah it's probably most similar to SWAT 4 but that game is 10 years old now. Even then Siege is considerably faster and has a lot fancier gadgets + building defenses/destruction.

It's like if a modern SWAT 4 and CoD Black Ops had a baby. It only superficially resembles CS.

Another unfunny, threadshitting knob-end.
I really wish there was an actual SWAT 5, though. I like the pacing of Siege but I do miss the more methodical approach, AI squadmates with absurd amounts of commands, weird scenario setups, more unique levels and PUT YOUR HANDS UP AND GET DOWN of SWAT 4. I'd love for R6S and SWAT 5 to co-exist like their respective franchises did in the early-mid 2000's.

The gameplay is quite different, as a CS player who also likes Siege, the biggest thing stopping it from a competitive CS replacement is the hit reg. It seems to vary wildly from "ok" to "absolutely disgusting"
If they can fix that, they might be onto something

To answer the guy in the last thread, I bought through g2play, but not from them.

http://www.g2play.net/category/21157/tom-clancy-s-rainbow-six-siege-uplay-voucher/

Those are just NVIDIA codes. Pick a seller with lots of good feedback and they will send you a key that you can't redeem through UPlay, but rather have to go through here, which will prompt you to login with an UPlay account and then link the game to it.

It's cheaper to go through ebay; I've seen these (Bullets or Blades) codes for as low as $20, but g2play accepts other payment methods which is useful to me, and it ended up costing $27.50 after fees anyway.

Thought I'd throw in a game with some friends of mine, unfortunately we speak Norwegian, but the gist of it is that while I was planting the defuser, one baddie arrived and stood next to me covering the entrance to the room, I killed him.
I tried to plant defuser again, and another guy popped up next to me doing the same thing, covering the entrance to the room and ignoring me.

A point to note about the game, the netcode is horrible, and I really mean horrible in the sense that something is really hosed up about it. The killcam will show you stuff that definitely not happened on your end, at one point when playing with goons yesterday two of us got ganked by a guy standing in a staircase corner, both of us apparently ran just in front of him and never saw the dude. A lot of times you will be hitting people in the dome on your end, and the killcam will show the enemy not getting damaged and just destroying you.

It's either a problem with the game's base netcode being horrible, or just not up to spec (rumors of 15 tick rate would confirm that, but it's just rumors). For a game pretending to be competitive, Ubi could be a little more transparent about what goes on behind the scenes and if the game really is based on lovely tick rate (for comparison CSGO has 64-128 and BF4 is now able to do 144 although 60 is the norm).

The game in itself is really fun, the concept is fresh and nicely done but the tech is so frustrating and just doesn't work.

Also just to note I ma not someone who gets worked up about dying in multiplayer games, I will definitely commend on an enemy getting a good drop on me but I cannot recommend getting this game unless you liked the BF4 launch and though everything was working fine.

"The Hero of the Age..."

The hero of all ages
I have to say that since the developers un-hosed the matchmaking in the open beta on xbox, I've been having fun with it. It's not without its issues and definitely needs more polish, but I've been having enough fun with it to the point of letting hours slip by without noticing.

Being able to buy boosters and gun camo in the store with in-game credits is comforting. Thunt on Hard is actually...hard, unless you have a coordinated team, obviously, but I hate to see what Realistic is like now. Shields went from being nearly unstoppable to a farce. Not sure if it was just dumb luck or not, but I managed to get headshots on shield users on two occasions from the other end of the hallway when I wasn't able to drop anyone using a shield in the last beta. Using Blitz was a disaster since his pistol seems useless unless you're ADSing with him which drops his shield. I was shooting terrorists at point blank range while hipfiring and wasn't getting any markers. Didn't feel like it was due to lag. It's like they heard people talk about Thunt being too easy and going against ballistic shields being too hard and "fixed" it by swinging the pendulum completely the other way when they need to bring it back a bit.

One multiplayer match stood out while playing this yesterday morning: I'm a recruit on the attacking team hiding out in the room next to the bomb and the two defenders left took care of the rest of my team and were setting up barricades anywhere they could. After lying in wait for them for a minute or so, I finally went "Hell with it", ran into the bomb room, set up the defuser right in front of the bomb to give me the best line of sight possible, and hid behind cover back in the first room. After a couple tense moments, one guy sneaks through the back entrance of the room and I manage to drop him and stay hidden. The next guy comes in the other entrance, creeps into the bomb room, starts to interrupt the defuser, and I drop him with a couple shots to win the match for our team. Perfect way to end the night.

Moments like that make this game shine and, despite my bitching about this game in the previous thread, is enough to make me think about grabbing a copy of the game this week after all with a 20% GCU discount and $10 rewards certificate from Best Buy, which would bring it down to the ~$35 range. I just hope the population sticks around and the game gets smoothed out overtime. Ubisoft doesn't have a stellar track record lately.

So it looks like the university map isn't playable in MP outside of a 'secret', T-Hunt style mission you unlock after you finish all the situations. So there are in fact 10 MP maps, not 11.

Also, you now need to be clearance level 20 to play ranked.

Matchmaking is quite a bit better but not perfect, hit detection varies from fine to horrible. If they up the tick rate on the servers it should be great. We'll see how much better or worse the release build is!

I've never crashed during this beta and I think I crashed once (and not during a match) during the previous betas. Haven't noticed any bugs during gameplay in the latest beta at all.
