Mercedes has been invited, they just declined to take part.

That is simply not true. Refueling allowed to cars to drive fast from the get go, rather than tip-toping around 10 seconds off the pace, as they're logging 100kgs worth of fuel and any attempt at going fast will destroy the tires.

Refueling made the cars go faster.

Refuelling also made it more dangerous and except for a fire it adds nothing to the show.

Has there ever been a new team that came from another high profile racing series though? Closest I can think is Manor/marussia/virgin and they literally had zero dollars for a budget. Haas isn't exactly a HRT or a Caterham, they've got some idea as to how to go racing successfully. They aren't going to set the world on fire but I wouldn't be suprised if they got past Manor and Sauber this year.

To be fair they got tricked with a 30 million budget cap promise.

As we all know, after Williams disappointed us in slightly damp weather in 2014 I realised Mclaren was the unbeatable #1 team. I have to say though, sandbagging for the entire 2015 season to surprise everyone in 2016 was ridiculous.

To nobody's surprise refuelling is dead again.

http://www.racer.com/f1/item/125435-f1-refuelling-return-dismissed-again

quote:

One needs to be careful with disinformation," [Symonds] said. "Refueling is an expensive thing to do as well as its effect on racing.

"Jean Todt said it cost 50,000 euros a year. He's an order of magnitude out. That's worrying.

"Freight costs for shipping equipment is £175,000 ($250,000) and it's probably £200,000-250,000 ($285,000-$356,000) to buy and service the kit in the first year and ongoing cost of servicing it.

"There is also one dedicated salaried person for looking after it, so the costs are very significant."

Symonds believes any return of refueling would have a negative impact on the racing.

"At the moment, we can determine a strategy before the race and then we take a more tactical view when we get in the race," he said. "We determine the pit stops based on what tires are doing, which won't necessarily be what we predicted, and then we have to assess what our competitors are doing.

"If you are refueling, you put enough fuel to reach lap 24 and you go to lap 24. If you stop earlier, the penalty is too high. When you think back to when we got rid of refueling, we saw better racing. It's a retrograde step."

Berger has gone soft in the heda

quote:

Gerhard Berger believes Rosberg is better than the rest of the current drivers in the field, with the exception of his team mate. “With any other driver as his team mate, Rosberg would have probably won the last two world championships.” Further, the ex-Austrain F1 driver believes Rosberg’s close of 2015 form can trouble his current team mate. “Hamilton appears to be walking on a tightrope,” says Berger. “He always appears close to losing his nerve so if Nico succeeds in rattling his confidence, then he will have a chance [of winning the WDC]”.
