jbone posted:I've finally convinced my office to get some type of off-the-shelf, web-based job tracking system. Trello's good for lightweight projects and is simple to learn and pretty idiot-proof. It's not so good if there's hundreds of tasks, or each task gets a lot of notes, or you need detailed burndown charts or heavy project management type stuff. Individuals and small teams tend to like it because it's friendly and easy to use. A cynic might say it's not much better than having a bulletin board with a bunch of notecards on it. At the other end of the spectrum, JIRA's a giant all-singing all-dancing tool that requires a lot of configuration and a lot of buy-in from the team but can accommodate whatever weird-rear end requirements you want to throw at it. Management types tend to like it because it has a lot of goal tracking and reporting functionality. A cynic might say that it's unnecessarily complex so that Atlassian can sell training courses.
