![]() I wake from a horrible dream – no battleships sunk in the attack, the attack in the Philippines stagnating against strong American resistance. The whole war was going poorly. Waking up in my own sweat was a good thing for once. Today is the day the Kido Butai hits Pearl harbour. I make it to the operations station on Tokyo Bay Fortress. We listen as the radio reports come in. ![]() ![]() One of our midget subs penetrates the defences at Pearl Harbour and manages to torpedo the West Virginia – There are reports of damage to her engines. ![]() Another makes it through, and hits the Maryland. ![]() As the Americans run around panicking as to the cause of these two massive explosions, we launch the entire wing of the Kido Butai. Now the Americans will have something to panic about. ![]() Bombs fall on both the airfield and the ships. We are almost unopposed except for some hurried flak fire. ![]() We lose 18 planes, but destroy 59, as well as sinking four destroyers – there are no reports of battleships sunk, but there is a lot of damage reported. ![]() We also hit Wake, destroying some more planes and damaging the runway there. ![]() The Imperial Navy bombards Midway. ![]() ![]() We strike the enemy airbases here, we destroy more enemy airframes. ![]() We then land troops at Batan. The Island is unoccupied, and we take it with minimal casualties – we lose 50 men to accidents while landing. ![]() ![]() We find the two most powerful Royal Navy ships – our pilots focus on the Repulse, and it takes the majority of the hits. I would have preferred a more even spread, but this should guarantee the kill. ![]() Strikes hit airbases in Malaya, Britain has to ship her planes a long way to get here, so I want to reduce them as much as possible. ![]() We return for the Prince of Wales in the afternoon. ![]() They go for one of our heavy cruisers, but our CAP see them off. ![]() We return and finish off the Repulse. ![]() Troops begin to land in Malaysia. ![]() Fighting begins to the north. ![]() ![]() Over a hundred enemy planes have been destroyed on the ground, but we are still waiting on the ship kills to come in. ![]() Only the Repulse is confirmed here, but I am sure this will increase with time, its not like things are going to go terribly, like my dream.... I turn to my plans. First I visit industry. ![]() Three carriers for 1945 are cancelled. I doubt I will need them, and they are to far off to see any real action. The Junyo is accelerated, another fleet carrier in the next few months will be useful. ![]() Troops are ready to flood into the Philippines. I spend some time setting up troop moves – China, Malaysia and the Philippines will be my main targets. ![]() We of course order the fleet to hit Pearl Harbor again. ![]() Okay, maybe you're new around here, and haven't got a clue what's going on. Well, this is War in the Pacific, Admirals Edition. This is one of the most grognardy games around, and I'm going to fighting the entire war in the Pacific in real time. Thats right, one turn a day, for the next four to five years. No I'm not mad, if you've not been looking forward to this, then you might not know that I've done this before, just as the allies. – For fun, why don't you read that one day by day as well, and compare how the war goes. This is not the first time I've tried the Japanese side – I got a few months in last time before my computer committed sepuka at the thought of another five years. This is a new computer, which does not yet know what its in for. I'm going to terribly, I'm going to get mocked for every slight mistake, weird bugs are going to create heroes. It's going to be glorious. Okay – life point! My wife is currently pregnant, child due in April. Al going well, by the time this ends, I'll be having arguments with the little monster. Obscenely lucky with the midget subs but not a single BB kill? Staying on for day two to loose 10% of your pilots from scratch and achieve nothing? No attempt to bomb the subs at Manila?

I'd like the CA Furutaka for a lucky ship. C'mon, Taco. You can survive the war this time. Unlike real life where you died. Like most IJN boats. Also, good luck, Grey!

I can never keep track what the heck is going on in this game, but I look forward to watching Grey sink the British Navy. Maybe on purpose this time.

I guess I'll claim the light cruiser Kuma. Not out of any real attachment, beyond the fact its the first Japanese warship I ever torpedoed in Silent Hunter IV. It'd be funny if it died to the Skipjack in this game.

Calling the Akagi, solely because it was the first CV I sunk in my first game (taken out by banshees out of Java), may she have better luck under Grey. I bought the game about 2 weeks in to the Allies LP.

If I get some class designations wrong or the wrong ship, please let me know. Some names come up several times, or I make a typing error. Also, I'll try to keep a running ship database going with all the ships that show up in Grey's posts.

Going with the BB Nagato, maybe it will even manage survive the whole war again ![]() Also godspeed Grey I hope your PC survives the LP curse long enough.

A true grog would withdraw the fleet, since despite being fully fueled in the game, in actuality they were really low on fuel at the time they launched the attack and couldn't stay on station a second day. ![]()

I guess I'll take CA Maya!

Grey Hunter, you're amazing. Alternate universe summary: 2 US battleships sunk, 6 heavily damaged. Philippines and Malaya under attack. HMS Prince of Wales and Repulse damaged by torpedo bombers off Singapore. The only significant difference appears to be that the computer didn't attack Midway.

fuf posted:Why is everyone posting ship names? I didn't read the first thread. It's traditional in these games to choose a 'lucky ship' as your own. Makes it seem you like you have more of a personal stake in the goings on. Just nominate a ship nobody has named yet, and see how she fares over the next 4 years! People are claiming "Lucky" ships to follow their progress through the war until their inevitable sinking. People get into it! Hence the "Grey Hunter sinks the British Navy" jokes that continue in his LPs to this day. He also received mostly joking death threats about if the CV Enterprise ever got sunk. The day by day format can make things really tense. Nothing like seeing a precious carrier or something get torpedoed and anxiously wait each day for reports of whether its finally sunk or made it back to a friendly port for repairs, and then realizing that it will be undergoing repair for months before we see it again.
