It's dumb, but I think it tends to be something that townies do more often to screw around than scum do for bragging rights, and so I wouldn't vote him for that alone.

I would say the merk thing is a null tell at best. He would do it as either alignment. It's not a good reason on its own to vote him, but it's not a good reason to clear him, either.
