Got my email for attending the Saturday taping yesterday. Just curious, it says that they start letting people in at 1:30 and doors close at 3:30, how quickly do decent seats fill up? Getting into LA is a fairly significant drive for me so I'm wondering how early I should leave.

It depends on what you are looking for. 1:30 is when they open the front gates, but you still have to stand in the check-in lines before you are actually inside. If you want really good seats, I would aim to be there and in line in front of the gates by 1 or 1:15-ish, especially since you'll have to go through the first-timer line and have your picture taken and sign a release which may slow you down a little. Don't get confused about which line to get in, when you go through the gates there will be a "Returning Guests" line straight ahead which will be the longest one, and then you'll see a "Tickets" line immediately left which is also not the correct one (that's the line you go to for seating assignment after you check in at returning guests or first-time guests and get a hand stamp). Wrap around the front of the lunch truck to the left and there will be tables set up for first-time guests to fill out their forms. There's plenty of staff members wandering around who can direct you. Or just ask Jack Evans, he'll be out front having a smoke at some point. Call him a puto while you're at it.

If you just want normal decent seats you can likely get there at 1:30 when they open the gate and still be fine. There's not really a bad seat in the house since it's so small, as long as you don't end up in the standing-room only, and some people even actually like that since you are up on the balcony where they come from on the entrances. I typically get there at 1 or even a little before, but I'm willing to stand there for an extra bit to have really good bleachers. Don't worry about getting there too early, there's a crew of regulars that will have set up camp up at the front with like a full-on awning and will have been there since morning, it's their tailgating type thing. So you're not going to be the first guy in line standing around alone in Boyle Heights.

When you get your seating section ticket it'll have a number on it but that number doesn't mean a drat thing, it's not like a seat number. So make sure you line up on the inside again fairly quickly once you got whatever grub you want from the lunch truck and use the porta-potties, since the seats are still first-come first-serve per your assigned section. They don't actually start leading people in and putting butts in seats until the doors close at 3:30. Be prepared to stand a lot, it's kind of a drag standing around for 2 hours before you actually sit down, but it takes them forever to get everyone checked in. There is a bar inside while you wait, or at least there was at the last few tapings, and food from the sketchy truck. And you can buy some merch and take a picture with the coffin if it is still out.

If you can get bleachers (they may also refer to this as the "Rowdy Seats") I recommend it, assuming you don't mind people standing a lot, people rushing the stairway rail during entrances to try and get a high-five, and the chance that'll you be on camera. But you actually tend to have more elbow room in the bleachers than in the regular seats -- they aren't actual seats, they are just those wooden benches, and the real seats are very crowded together. Its the side on the hard cam where the wrestlers brawl up into most often, and it tends to have the most wrestler interaction. Bleacher seating is even more chaotic than the normal seating process so just kind of rush to the spot you want, it's not like an orderly filling in process (stairway rail spots and spots near the front are more coveted, naturally). I think the bleachers are a ton of fun, assuming you're not the type that gets upset about people wanting to chant poo poo constantly, since it is highly encouraged in that section. If you do want a more relaxed viewing experience, nothing wrong with the normal seats, though.

They say you can't bring a phone in -- you can, just keep it on the down-low and whatever you do don't point it up at the ring like you might be taking a picture, that's when they'll come and tell you to put it away, and if you do it a lot they'll kick you out. You can't bring in food to the actual seating (you can have it while standing in line), but you can bring in water so long as you peel the label off. They say no logos on clothes, that doesn't include LU merch or gear for LU wresters (i.e. a Pentagon shirt is fine even if it isn't official LU gear, and even Perros del Mal shirts are okay), but anything that is like a brand they will make you either cover with black tape or turn inside-out, or buy an LU shirt to wear instead. They're very careful about having non-sponsoring brands on camera.

Oh, and I recommend parking on one of the side streets instead of parking in the Temple lot. It's a pain in the rear end to get in and out of. If you go down Sixth (I think it is) a little ways, there's a large building with warehouse style doors that usually has plenty of parking spots out front.

Larry has no power in the Temple. The worst you have to worry about is Big Dick Johnson grinding on you a little.

Speaking of Jack Evans he just did an interview and talked a little about LU. He said he never checks his email and wasn't aware they wanted him to be a heel until his first day on set. When he showed up he had no notes or ideas about his character so when they started filming he started acting like Teddy Hart

That's awesome. He got immediate heat, all he had to do was start shouting about being the inventor of lucha and the crowd got it right away. He got a big debuting pop and then he was in the ring for maybe a minute before he had everyone booing him.

This is strangely under the radar but apparently Lucha Underground will be airing in Canada on TLN TV starting January 30. Maybe someone from Canada can tell me how big this is -- looking at their site they seem to have ties to both Univision and Sky TV, but for all I know this could be like Canada's El Rey or something. From the outside it looks like a pretty big station?

I guess the real question is whether this is the first step in broader distribution about to happen.

I don't know the kind of reach they have but it seems to be pretty wide (everyone I know has it and used it to watch softcore porn late at night when they were teens) and they used to show lucha quite a bit. I'm fairly certain they showed Super Astros in the 90's as well. I kind of wish I still had cable to watch it.

That's pretty cool and gonna make Sunday a good night for wrestling with LU at 10 and ROH at 11.

TLN is actually fairly big and included in all basic cable packages (at least through Rogers).

Can't say I didn't warn you. Did you at least get a lap full of Mariposa during that last match? Fun but a little odd taping, with no Puma, Mil, or Pentagon. But I thought the cage match was good and that last match was much, much better than I expected, given the participants.

Dark match debut spoiler: Tessa Blanchard wrestled a dark match against Ivelisse. Unfortunately Tessa hurt what looked like her shoulder, seemingly pretty badly, on like the first drat move of the match and while they did what they could with it, she didn't really get a chance to show her stuff. At the very least, Tessa deserves credit for gutting out a several minute match and not just calling for it to go home, there were times where I could see both Ivelisse and the ref repeatedly asking her "Are you okay?" and they were struggling hard to find a way to work through it. She was clearly in a LOT of pain. She also waved the ref off after the match when he tried to throw up the X and went to the back on her own. Ivelisse got the win but held up Tessa's hand afterward.

For those that don't know why this might be a big deal, Tessa is Ricochet's girlfriend and if they were to sign her for Season 3 and beyond, it could provide further incentive for him to stay with the company after his contract runs. Not that it's the only reason, from what I've heard Tessa is pretty good, but I'm sure that is factoring in as well. Hopefully she's not hurt too bad and gets a chance to do some more matches.

No, I was on the other side from where that happened. I'll be the visibly uncomfortable one next to Hot Tub Guy during these episodes. Hopefully the seating arrangements aren't the same tomorrow.

I figured that was a worked injury because she was so obviously selling it during the whole match. I expected there to be some backstage segment where she got attacked so she wouldn't be ready for the match or whatever. Maybe she's too young to know not to draw attention to legit injuries? Either way it made the psychology of that match really weird.

That was almost certainly a dark match (opening the first or second taping, Dario doing the ring announcing instead of Melissa, and a new wrestler with relatively little fanfare are usual dark match hallmarks) so there was no reason for it to be worked that way. I mean, unless they were testing something like "can you act out this specific injury for five minutes" but I doubt it. She really looked like she was in serious pain by the end, so if I'm wrong and that was just selling, give her an Academy Award.

I don't think it was anything to do with intended match psychology, pretty much what Mob said her shoulder just went out and she was cradling her arm the whole match, and she did what she could while having very little use of it. It may have been more obvious on my side since the first thing Ivelisse did after what seemed to be the injury was throw her into the bleacher side corner and on our side you could see her say something like "are you okay? Do we go?"

A lot of moves that were like weird mat-based half-botches seemed to be them trying something that just didn't happen because Tessa had no arm and Ivelisse having to improv it into a cradle or submission hold. They probably should have just immediately gone to the finish, but I guess Tessa didn't seem to want to do that on her tryout debut and I suppose she showed something in terms of her grit. Ivelisse deserves praise too for even keeping that moving as a match, she had to carry and ring general hard in there. It wasn't a good match to watch, and it was probably dumb to keep going assuming that was a real injury, but I'm also a little impressed that they finished it out.

And if you were right next to Hot Tub, no wonder you were feeling crowded. The bleachers are some luxury box seats in comparison to that.
