Sardines are canned in many different ways. At the cannery, the fish are washed, their heads are removed, and the fish are cooked, either by deep-frying or by steam-cooking, after which they are dried. They are then packed in either olive, sunflower, or soybean oil, water, or in a tomato, chili, or mustard sauce. Has anyone had deep fried 'dines? I bet fresh, breaded 'dines would be amazing.

Went out to a more high end store today and saw these, they were a bit pricier than usual so I hope they're good. I've only eaten rapeseed oil and tomato paste 'dines before! Exciting stuff Will report back

Update: these minerva 'dines are drat fine. Very large fishies, super firm with a light smoky yet rich umami 'dine flavor and a nice heat from the spices that lingers for a while without being overpowering. Eating them on crackers with some dijon mustard and alternating with hot sauce (i like to vary my sauces) Portuguese 'dines are fine little fishes for sure, will buy again!!!!! Get these sardines if you see them edit: holy gently caress there is a little chili pepper at the bottom of the tin! what!!!! AEMINAL fucked around with this message at 21:22 on Dec 26, 2015 |

Do you 'dine dads have any favorite sardine salad recipes? I'm thinking feta cheese and tomatoes would go well but with em, but I suck at salad-making and could use some ingredients that would accent the 'dines nicely

Tomato dines go loving great with dijon mustard if you spread a little on the cracker before dolloping out the dines. It's my new favorite dine combo. Ate two tins yesterday like it, so salty and delicious.

SymmetryrtemmyS posted:KO and other brands also sell mackerel, usually in the same fashion as sardines. The flavor is a little lighter, the texture is a little more firm and meaty, and they're a little more dry. Eat them like you would eat sardines in tomato sauce - that is, liberally douse with hot sauce. Sick, will do. Thjanks.

Trip report: Mackarel drat nice fish, very different from sardines in that they come as one big filet and you have to take chunks off with a fork. But the taste is really nice, I think I might prefer them to 'dines at least when it comes to tomato paste fish. Haven't seen them in oil, but they're drat good in tomato sauce/paste. Try them out if you see them! Easier to eat as well, no little fishies sliding around on your cracker but just a nice big chunk o flesh. 5/5 fishies edit: i had them with fancy french dijon smeared on cheap plain wheat crackers. very nice combo.
