Male Tears posted:Does anyone know anything about eating Korean-style dried anchovies? I bought a bag of medium sized ones at H-Mart because I figured I could use them both for making stock and for snacking. Generally, I've seen online that the large ones are for stock and the tiny ones are better for snacking. I know for the large ones you are supposed to remove the heads and guts, but does that apply to the medium ones as well? The guts taste a little bit bitter but they don't bother me too much. I'm not sure if there's any health risks related to eating the guts. Doubt it. Plankton eaters with short lives barely have time to build up nasty stuff in their system.

Ate a can of king oscar kippers in the house and my melodramtic 6 year old puked his banana complaining it was rotten. Turned out the smell from my delicious kippers ran over his tastebuds. He didnt even know what I was eating.

A Pack of Kobolds posted:According to the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife, a properly-licensed person could harvest 25 pounds of sardines each day. Really makes you think of what could be. I've caught big dines before to use as bait for salmon and ate the ones we didn't use. Really really good but the bones need to be worked around when you just BBQ them.

A Pack of Kobolds posted:This is a better idea than most goon projects, though I worry about it capsizing fifty feet from shore. I've never netted fish. We would catch sardines with sabiki rigs once we found the birds diving on "meatballs". Apparently there is very good squid fishing near me on the docks. Gonna have to try that out.

There's a dock near me that has plug ins and you aim a halogen light at the water. That kinda attracts them. Next you jig a lure in the water until you snag one. It's incredibly simple but does take a little practice. When you bring it out of the water it squirts ink and water all over the place. Kinda cool.

Find a pier with outlets to power a flood light or already has strong lighting. Bring a fishing pole with 12-15lb line. Also get some squid jigs. Three to four is good. Separated about 10 inches apart. Lower the jigs into the water when dark. Feel a tug and gently lift up. Shake squid off into bucket. Helps to watch someone doing it. Usually a gang of older Asian men will be killing it. Just watch and learn.
