does this game have encumbrance rules?
how insanely heavily-armed do you need to be before you can't reasonably walk around town without getting arrested

yes the game has encumbrance rules - add your SB and TB together (in your case 5) which you cross check on table 7-26 for a result (carrying 27kg, lifting 54, pushing 108). If you are carrying more than your max you are 'encumbered' and take an agility penalty and become fatigued after TB hours.

in terms of what you can carry without drawing attention- it's not at all unusual for imperial citizens to go about their daily business with a sidearm or melee weapon on display. wearing light armor is less common, but not exactly notable. long guns, grenades, and armor heavier than flak will draw attention from local authorities. heavy weapons more so. all this is subject to the world you're on (no-one blinks at a lasrifle on a death world) your apparent social status (the wealthy or important are expected to have bodyguards etc) and the quality of your arms (plasma guns and power weapons stand out more than knives and autopistols.)

For someone like Ignatius, you could probably pass with pistols and anything high/best quality as you showing off obstinate wealth. You can also do like Iseppo does and get yourself a best quality / compact sword/cudgel/stun rod disguised as a cane or umbrella so that you can have a significant large weapon that isn't immediately identified as one.

A best quality sword is actually a surprisingly easy pickup, it gives you +1 damage and +10 weapon skill over a standard sword, is silent for a stealth weapon, and you can take the mono upgrade for +2 penetration as well.

A best quality chainsword is a harder pickup and you'd need a weapon training trait in it. It's way less subtle though still nobility appropriate because it would be garish and highly decorated. You'd pick up +2 damage and tearing (which is amazingly good by the way). It can even work as a stealth weapon too, if you don't turn it on it just acts like a regular mono sword (no tearing or the +damage) so you can still stealth gut people if you need to.

Unarmed specialist is pretty cheap for what it does, turning your hands into discount chainswords, but you need a little investment into ws and str to get the most out of it.

If anyone doesn't already have a set, you can have my guard flak.

And once again I'm just fine at making things out of garbage but just the worst at actually knowing anything.

Edit:

If passing the Logic test to sift through the data in the implant will yield meaningful results, like helping us negotiate with Iseppo or get a sub, I'm willing to spend another Faye point to Auto-Pass it.

I think we need to unanimously decide what the our next step is.

I'm guessing it's "find a sub to go investigate the spooky-scary conspiracy" we've uncovered, but we should probably officially say that.

We also need to decide whether/how to show up to the appointment with Iseppo, and I have started an imperative to get our prisoner secured within the warehouse, safely under our direct supervision.

Given how many times he's hinted at it, I have a feeling there's data in the Cizneros archive that will be directly useful and relevant, and it might not even take a skill roll to access it.

We should make sure everyone is healed, too. Is everyone healed up?

In my opinion, I think it's time for us to drop the naval dignitary facade and come clean about our intentions (to him, alone, privately) and see if that wins us enough trust to keep using him as an asset.

My thought is right now that we're on the lowest of the low in the inquisitorial hierarchy and while we are working for an inquisitor, we essentially do not have his backing at all and have basically nothing to fall back on when things go bad. If we can convince Iseppo to give us House Deculon credentials then we've got ourselves a local patron with enough power to cover ourselves from political and societal fallout. We may not be in a position to negotiate on behalf of our inquisitor for Quid Pro Quo, but we can tell him "You've seen the creatures we've been fighting, and you know what the Imperium at large will do to see a successful crackdown of daemonic hellcocaine and unsanctioned mutants psykers happen. If you help us with this we'll make sure to write you up to our superiors very favorably and grant you positive attention from the wider sector."

Bring him a gift to know that we're serious, give him one of our anti squidmutant green-stripe toxin vials/grenades and give his alchemists the means to produce their own to help better protect his own people.

Ideally in my mind's eye, the next step is to use Iseppo to get us a face to face with Arbite Whatshisname and to Gaius (or even just to out Gaius to the Arbites for who he is if we feel we have enough of a grasp on the situation to proceed without picking Gaius's brain more).

Ideally I think right now our ultimate goals are:
-Get our hands on a submersible durable enough to make it to the bottom of the ocean.
-Neutralize the Leviathan murderrage near our ultimate destination
-Storm the Omphalos and probably destroy it

Identifying Gaius' supplier would probably be useful insofar as putting a speed bump in the spook trade and the bad guys' plan, but ultimately if we topple the Omphalos that will probably remove the means that they've been using to get the spook precursor out.

If we knew more about how the Leviathans go into their killfrenzy could probably help us figure out a way to either neutralize them or trick them into thinking we're one of them. If it's related to the murderous partycrashers we encountered way back at the beginning of the game we could try and hope for another riot wherein we can take a couple of rioters alive and study the psychic effects on their brain to develop a masking agent to either hide us from them or to make them think we are also a fellow brain dead ragemonster. We may want to see if we can search for and find another one of those psychic gizmos that Max found since that seems to be connected to the rioters: Then we get Gamma and Aperta to see what they can make of it.

I agree with the above, especially about Iseppo. He'll probably be happy not to have to worry about building the academy even if he'll be miffed about being lied to. (Hopefully the I-word will smooth things over for us.)

The only problem is how we prove we are who we say we are.

Leperflesh
May 17, 2007

We did just bust open the spook ring and gave the Deculons credit for it; that should help with Iseppo's trust. We can also disclose our knowledge of (and destruction of) the device in a rival house's estate, which gives him some political dirt he could potentially use at some point.

But ultimately, uhhh, how do we prove to anyone that we're Inquisition? We must have credentials of some kind, right?
