There's been a project going on to get some Lucas Arts games that weren't released on the Atari ST computers working on them by using a modified version of SCUMM VM So far three games have been converted to run on the ST/Falcon - Monkey Island 2, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and Day of the Tentacle. They use the DOS versions of the games, and run a pkg wrapper to get them running on the ST. It is still very early days and some of the games are a bit rough. I gave the first two games a try to see how they go, as I have the originals of both games (Amiga version, but that means I can run the DOS versions I got from archive.org, right?). Both games start on my system, but Monkey Island 2 refuses to go any further than the intro screen. This is running on my 1040STE with 4MB RAM. The SCUMM VM files can be found here: http://www.happydaze.se/scummvm-lite-atari/ Development on this project can be found here: https://www.exxoshost.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=2644&sid=7e80f4a1a686dd3892098dcc883dd0ed

The ST can only really show 16 on the screen at once, compared to 32 on the Amiga.

~50% of Atari ST software was just the Amiga version but with worse sound and all the graphics run through a 32->16 colour filter, and if someone even bothered to go in and touch up the horrible dithering then you were lucky.

You can now rock an inch-long pink mouse pointer and that just means that Windows wins by default.

Scored a Sega Genesis Mini cheap today and yeah I can do the normal Project Lumar for more ROMs...but cos I'm loving retarded, currently desoldering the NAND and dumping it, whilst awaiting the slightly different yet higher capacity version to clone to for more ROM space to actually get a full region set of games... My biggest problem with original genesis/32x hardware is that it’s composite only. I’ve already killed a 32x attempting to svideo mod it

Yeah, you absolutely can do 32X in RGB. Svideo works better for some folks though.

The images on my screen were pretty low-fi so it made sense for the sound to be as well. I wasn't all that interested in collecting MIDIs of popular songs though I admit.

Right, it was fine for early games, but I remember getting bamboozled by late 90's websites talking about downloading music and it would end up being a midi song, meanwhile napster existed and I could get actual songs.

MIDI on a good sound card with a good wavetable could make the music sound pretty drat good. I remember upgrading mine from an old adlib to an awe64 and being amazed at how much better Ultima online's music sounded.

Also if you were into electronic music, the MIDs could replicate the original pretty well. Just disable the vocal line on Robert Miles’ Children and you’re good to go!

Mod files were wild with electronic music because sometimes they would sample the same thing the song they were replicating sampled, sometimes they would sample the song directly, sometimes they would rig up their own samples, you never knew what was coming down the pike I wish my child brain could have comprehended mod trackers back then. I could have had a blast with it Instead I hosed around endlessly on mixman which somehow still exists I guess? https://www.mixman.com I also had the Mixman DM2 controller, which owned for its time and also somehow is still sold on amazon dm2 Digital Music Mixer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002GCFDFM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_p7vZEbJN4FCZM Who is still biting DM2’s in tyool 2020?
