Pretty sure this is what plays in the scene at the prom where the nerdy girl that was paralyzed shows the handsome, sensitive, popular guy that she pushed away because she was angry that she can walk again and they have their dance and kiss, then credits roll.

Going backwards on this one. I hadn't even considered that David Bowie's China Girl was a remake, especially since there's a lyric in it that's Bowie specific ("man who wants to rule the world").

A few years earlier, Bowie helped put it together for Iggy Pop.

The worst thing ever to enter your ears so far.

I like A&P, but yeah, it's an acquired taste.

I heard an upbeat dance-ish cover of Glorybox in the gym the other day. I haven't been able to track that down, but here's this which may be worse than the A&P version:

That's some hella inspired take on the original's lyrics.

Not a great fan of the original but this one bangs.

The whole time i'm like "i know this riff man, it's so familiar... what is it??? I can't remember!!!"

I've settled on it being Electric Six's Gay Bar, and even tho it's probably wrong it makes the video more fun imo

Yes.
As a long time connoisseur of weird covers, mashups and similar chicanery, I'm absolutely beside myself that I never found out about this thread until now. On the upside, I've had a grand old time browsing through it.

There was lot of good poo poo I already knew and really appreciated seeing here, and also a lot of good poo poo that was new to me. I forgot which page it was, but an extra special mention goes to the person who posted William Shatner covering Bohemian Rhapsody. That was absolutely loving sublime and I haven't laughed like that in months. Thank you.

Thankfully, there's also plenty of stuff that has so far gone unposted here. So here goes some content:

Zombie by The Cranberries has been turned into a metal cover several times (sorry but the Bad Wolves one is awful), but far as I know, only former WASP guitarist Randy Piper turned it into a brisk-paced, upbeat, 80s metal rip-roarer. it honestly feels very deeply wrong somehow, but gently caress if it doesn't also make for a bangin tune. (advisory: the video is very loud, so maybe turn your volume down a bit before you hit play)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAOABocc-lE

This remix is very strange in the sense that it manages to turn a Green Day song into something I sincerely enjoy a lot.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z2ZyBt2Qcs

Here's a Finnish singer-songwriter turning John Lennon's Imagine into a far more haunting piece that could be in a trailer for a new The Walking Dead season or someshit. (In actuality she made it as a theme song for a big LARP event, of all things.) It's absolutely gorgeous.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGG34Fhc8xo

Ending with another metal cover. Or is it a cover when the original song is purely solo a cappella and you make up all the instrumentation to go with it? I guess it is. Anyway, that's exactly what Unleash the Archers did with Stan Rogers' Northwest Passage, and it Rips. So. loving. Hard.
