Nice brown. Did you ever eat one? If so what state and water source? Did it taste like mossy mud? I may just have bad luck with them.

Large predator fish are great but if you want bragging rights you need to wiegh them the minute they come on board. I caught a 25lb lingcod that threw up a 7lb ling, a small shark, a skate and a still lively octopus 10 minutes after getting thumped and tossed in the sack.

From anecdotal evidence (I dug through s couple pounds Of otter poo poo) they seem to prefer crawfish if available. I fish a high mountain private pond that has a family of otters and I found very few fish bones compared to the almost solid clump of shells. Stock up on crawdads to distract them?

The life cycle of pacific salmon is pretty wild. That fish stopped eating already and all its fat and protein will go to keeping it alive only long enough to mate. It had no hope of survival and will die after having sex for the first time.

Yeah i noticed you seem to catch a lot of bottom fish. Do you use a scanner to fish over rocks/structure or do you just wander around? I'm curious if you got near apex predator fish waiting in ambush on rock piles like we do in CA, US.

Oh god i love slaughtering albacore. So much meat in the head after doing the basic cuts. I just gorge on it and by the time I'm done with the cuts I'm ready for bed. I miss tuna fishing with my uncle.

Interesting. Our rocky shoreline usually produces good fish living in the cracks of the rocks near the surf line. We "poke pole" for eels and rockfish. Kinda dangerous because you generally are looking down instead of at the ocean but you can snag some nice critters.

Hrm. It's a bit of a drive from Port Orchard but I may be down for that. I'm mostly a shallow water rock fishery sort of guy but I enjoy trout too.

HenryJLittlefinger posted:Yeah, Colorado Pikeminnow. No idea on stomach. Since they're endangered and my study doesn't currently have any focus on diet, we don't lavage them. Measure, weigh, scan for PIT tag, release. I thought it was a pike minnow but didnt realize the Colorado sub species was in trouble. The broad mouth is kinda unique for a big CA fish. Where is your study out of? I've been a volunteer with Moss Landing research center for over 6 years.

Very cool. The big complaint with them in the Sacramento basin is they eat all the juvenile trout, salmon and stripers. Not even considered a game fish out here but they attain decent size. I'm sure you know that just giving out general info for non-CA.

This one was on a Suntech Kurenai HM30R, which weighs a little under an ounce, line and all. All chubs are minnows. Shinners are not minnows. Cute little guy! I always find it amusing when you catch fish swinging above their weight.
