Jk :)

like they make for cool avs for cool people

I can understand the part about anime making cool avatars but I don't really understand what you mean about liking the idea of anime or whatever!

Idea:
international assassin teams up w/ amnesiac mystery girl with killer instincts

Anime:
ffs not another flashback with the music box! Just shoot people already!

Like they move so slow it's like they expect you to miss half the episodes.

What are some good anime movies/series with pacing that doesn't stretch everything out?

that looks rad as gently caress. it's been 10 years since i've seen metropolis but i still remember the last half of it really well! it's good and you don't really know what you're getting like you would if you went to nausicaa or akira. metropolis really flew under the radar for some reason. i think the opening scene mentions a ziggurat or something. why the gently caress do i remember that

anyway, yeah. it's a good movie and i wish festivals like that happened here

I remember .hack//sign being an exceptionally exposition heavy anime, I wonder if Noir was similar, it was from the same era.

hahaha yes! that one's fairly meditative. something like black lagoon is great for action, but all-round check out 'castle of cagliostro', it's old as hell but it makes steven spielberg happy. great jazzy soundtrack too

y'know, the exact same thing came to mind here... that had a great soundtrack too, but it had a very leaden stride! just looked it up and it's the same studio and same director, just a year apart. explains a lot.
