I was thinking last night how every generation the "best game of all time" changes. when the PS2 came out everyone and their mom said the best game of alltime was Planescape Torment. When 360 and PS3 came out everyone said Super Metroid. When PS4 came out now everyone says Legend of Zelda Ocariners of Time well what is it nerds

Ocarina of time was groundbreaking when it came out but it doesn't really withstand the test of time, frankly it feels downright bad to play. I don't think 3d zelda games are very good. No one born in 2005 will play ocarina of time. It's mario bros 3.

A lot of the old, sprite-based games really hold up. Super Metroid, A Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario 3/World, are all up there for me. Ocarina of Time, like many have said, was ridiculous for its time but not all-time. The Metroid Prime series have always held a special place in my heart but I wouldn't put them at the top. Mario 64, if you grew up on 8- and 16-bit platformers, was probably the most awe-inspiring game of all-time. I was something like 13 when it came out and I don't think a game has ever enraptured me like that game did. It was like playing a live-action cartoon and the 3D just popped. It didn't hurt that each new level was something unique and engaging. I don't think it is the best game of all time but it was the most "fun" I think I've ever had as a video-gamer. The nostalgia factor is strong with "GOAT" games but I still have fun playing Chrono Trigger, even if I do know all the endings. For me, that's the GOAT. Another game in the top 5 is Homeworld. Again, for the time, it was ridiculously pretty, had an incredible SP game and a manual that dripped with love from the Devs. You absolutely fell in love with the quest for home and the disembodied voices that so professionally grappled with the ever-increasing size of the universe and the tragedy that fell on them. "Kharak is...burning." It was so minimal-istic and yet so powerful.
