The Lord of Hats posted:So wait, given that heroic actions get rolled against the Doom, that means that aside from oppressing the peasants to keep their Inspiration down, the nobles are actively incentivized to make the world a shittier place, because now they're harder to overthrow. And they know this. Really gives me a bit of a Brandon Sanderson vibe. What a cool system. I considered myself to be burned out on fantasy games but this one sounds like it could fill the void in my heart

Simian_Prime posted:The Marvel Universe RPG (the diceless one from the early 2000s) tried to use this for time and movement. It was a clever idea, the problem was that the book was so poorly edited that the terms "panel" and "page" became interchangeable. Goddamn that book was a hot mess. If the book can't even consistently describe a panel as "several quick actions" and a page as "one short combat" , then what good is it? My point about the thread's design-by-committee being superior to many paid RPG writers stands.

It seems to me that the god machine would work best at a low-wierdness setting. Very few supernaturals and no big antagonists, only strange unknowable forces.

That sounds far too rad for this game, I'd wager that this risk is never mentioned.

Both in Django and Fury road, revenge comes as a side benefit . The protagonists are not looking for trouble beyond the main goal, If the bad guys stand in the way however...

Progenitor has a really well detailed history from the late sixties to 2000 and it's repeatedly stated that this is only the shape of things if the PC's don't interfere.

An idea: the Machine is not sapient at all, nothing more than a bacterial colony on a global scale. It only adapts as a result of massive blind experiments because it has no capacity for creativity.

So what have we learned? I learned that in the context of a "what if" questions there are stupid questions and unimaginably boring answers. I forgot many games reviewed here, but I think that I'll remember BNW for being less appealing and bland than a pile of soggy Quaker oats.

You guys forgot to mention the very best ending in that game, where you walk off middle finger raised high to all the bickering factions. You usually don't get WoD GMs cool enough to allow that.

Hyperbrains are better implemented in Progenitor: One is a bit of an anarchist, developing technologies to improve mankind's lot without tying himself to any one government. One creates a third superpower in the cold war. The lesser hyperbrains have lesser effects on history. One creates a hypermeme that makes legalisation of weed more acceptable, because she wants to export it to the U.S.
