Isn't that more or less precisely what you're doing in DOOM 2016, but against a capitalist regime instead of a fascist one though? Like the demons are a constant that cannot be stopped but it's perfectly obtainable to destroy the infrastructure needed by Robo Steve Jobs and Cyber mega church lady.

If anything I think it'd be more normalizing if they were just accepted as an off-hand mention in a sidebar rather than because of some great heroic myth, because that kind of implies that everywhere without that myth isn't going to be okay with them and also that homosexuals need a divine stamp of approval rather than just being casually accepted like everyone else.
The ancient myth bit also pre-supposes that the people see it as something that needs to be excused, it assumes that hating homosexuality is a default state of humans rather than an institutional and artificial problem.

It actually seems like in Warhammer treating chaos mutation this way is a sort of self fulfilling prophecy that creates more chaos followers. Because society is poo poo and blames you for the mutation you don't really have any other choice that joining up with the one group that will accept you, even if they're still assholes. Almost like the solution would be not blaming people for mutations.

Also, I don't get all the fearmongering over anarchist communes. Communes exist, they have social problems, but there's no reason to rush to the conclusion that the cyber-kibbutz will be a hellworld of ostracism and witch burning.

If you want real examples of places where the workers are left to organize production communally, but society is still horribly unfair, the first place to look is agriculture under feudalism.
Does EP have unions?

Honestly as time has gone on AT-43 continues to be the best 4chan as a nation. They're VR playing genocide enthusiasts who function as useful idiots for a massive corporation.

Honestly I don't really think it'd be too bad. The saints can intercede on your behalf which could be fairly easily modeled by granting spells. Though you'd just need a little note saying that the power ultimately comes from God through the saint.

In the write-up for the Temple of Pegana we’re told the weird legend of its high priest, Mung, who brought the temple’s pantheon to the CIty State from a far off land, incited a city-wide revolt of the local craftsmen and then unleashed the “Beast of Mung” during the resulting civil war. Mung’s still kicking around, by the way. Apparently all that unrest and beast-releasing wasn’t enough to get the Overlord to kick him out…
This is all taken from the Lord Dunsany book The Gods of Pegana. It's a sorta bible for a made up world's polytheist religion. Mung is the god of death. The Beast of Mung was a creature he had to keep the lesser gods in line.

But again, so? That clone wants to be me, he's me. Hell, if the clone gets activated and is walking around while I'm still breathing that's gonna be mildly weird, but after figuring out names and roommate situations its fine too. So the Thing is only horror in your book because of what happens if the new body is threatened?

It's only a "new" person to an outside observer, and who's to say that the outside observer's perspective has more weight than the transported person's experience of continuity?
It is also new to the original you who died.

Ronwayne posted:

Yeah, from my POV, its literally distinction without difference. Yeah, they're copies, but also, so what? You gonna tell the copy they're a ghost thinking they're a real person? They are almost certainly people that do that in EP, and outside of Jovian areas, they're probably universally considered assholes. The other issue is that people like Koch no longer die, but that's a :ussr: issue.
The only way this works is if they kill the old body, the original you as a part of the process. If the original body survived the resleeve process it'd presumably have some issues with people considering the new sleeve the real person.

The point about sleep and continuity of consciousness really isn't a minor one btw. How do you know your consciousness is continuous when you wake up? We take it on faith because we're used to it. It might not be! Which would be existentially terrifying, in a sense, but... we assume that the light which goes out is the one that comes on again because to do otherwise is not very good for us.

Now apply that to resleeving.
In one it is completely guaranteed that there is no continuity of consciousness unless of course there is some objective soul, in the other there is a chance that there is no continuity.

What's important is that you don't think about the issue of the self.

If religious/spiritual issues are ignored, the "self" is nothing but a convenient identity recreated second-by-second. I die every milisecond and I recreated. The past versions of my "self" are very similar to my short-lived present, but we are ultimately distinct and they no longer exist. There is no horror in this beyond what we choose to make of it.

If I assume that stepping into a teleporter simply transports me elsewhere and the person who steps out of the other end will also be me, and everyone can effectively treat them as "me". Then it's all good. In the present (the only thing that actually exists) I still exist.

The horror only comes from questioning it, which leads to the issues of unconsciousness and the ship of theseus. It's a slippery slope of unanswerable questions when its far better to simply accept that if I think I am me and everyone else agrees, then there is no problem.

So, before inventing the teleporter, make sure to shoot all the philosophers.
This is what LessWrong posters tell themselves to justify why thinking they can upload their brains to computers isn't a religion.

It was baffling how many 3.5 players have such an issue with static bonuses just being from expert craftsmanship instead of magical enchantment. Like somehow saying that a +5 sword can be made by amazing but non-magical smiths made me a horrible rollplayer of a DM and not a true roleplayer.
