You know, for all of it, the crunch, the rules weirdness, the everything? Despite the fact that it's honestly not a great system? I really honestly do like Shadowrun 4e. Maybe I should write about it sometime.

I'm going to re-inforce for the thread that I have trash taste, I actually really like the Sin Eaters. But, basically Geist: The Sin Eaters posted:Mood Here's the quick compare-and-contrast between Sin Eaters and Beasts.
Sin-Eaters may engage less with the 'I am a monster, how do I deal with it' dilemma than the other splats do, but at least they clear the low bar of 'Not a terrible rear end in a top hat' that all Beasts seem to set.

Kurieg posted:"What does that one say?" This legitimately made me laugh. I'm glad to hear people say nice things about Geist, to be honest. I've heard a lot of people denounce it as 'Undead superheroes that don't belong in the world of darkness', 'They have nothing to drive them to go on adventure', 'completely mechanically broken' and I get that negative response so often I've just kind of gotten used to it being 'that one splat nobody likes'.

gradenko_2000 posted:That first part with the Elf is a call-back to earlier versions of D&D when detecting secrets was a racial ability of Elves, but as far as I know that isn't a thing in 3rd Edition anymore. Further, "passing within 10 feet" implies that maybe the writer was still in the older D&D mindset of a 10-foot gridded map, whereas 3rd Edition was already using 5-foot squares. Still a thing. Elves only get "entitled to a Search check to notice it as if she were actively looking for [secret doors]", and it's 5 feet instead of 10 feet, but it's still a thing that exists.

Except then she's written as just 'a bitch' without any depth or introspection.

Halloween Jack posted:fascism porno. These two words elegantly sum up why I'm completely sick of 40k. In particular, why I'm sick of a certain type of online tabletop game board poster who the franchise creates, who peppers their speech with 'Heresy' 'Traitor' and 'Purge' and parrots the 'kill the mutant/heretic/alien/other' slogan of the Imperium any chance they get, and tries to jam the philosophy into completely inappropriate settings. Yeah, buddy, it's sure edgy that you think we should purge all the elves and dwarves as inhuman scum. You're really a mature and cool individual. I'm glad you came to enlighten us about how all aliens need to be executed via flamethrower in our Star-Trek style scifi setting. Thank you for the phrase, I'm filing it away for later. Sorry for venting in the thread.

Lion is weird to me, as the stout, resolute militaristic and honorable dudes.... Except that's also the Crab clan? Lion are just bigger, not on the frontlines of the Shadowland warzone, and have better table manners. Maybe I'm not getting the whole picture just from Traveller's writeup. EDIT: While discussing this thread with a friend I went back and noticed that Kakita Ransei's ancestor ability doesn't seem to specify you need to be using a blade to use it, which makes me imagine some Crane running around kicking people in the junk through full o-yoroi. Will there be a 2e of Changeling? I liked Changeling. I'm slowly getting more interested in the World of Darkness, and despite knowing peripherally that they've put out some awful, awful stuff in the past most of the nWoD material I'm familiar with has been, at worst, 'This is kind of weird and abstract and I'm not sure if I'd want to play this (Promethean, Demon, to some extent Mage)', as opposed to... well. Beast. It's perplexing how it went so.. wrong.

Josef bugman posted:Just on the subject of CofD has anyone had a read of the Leviathan fan game that someone brought out? I think it had a few good ideas but needed some work, what about you guys? PKFan2004 was doing a writeup of it, thought it doesn't look like he finished it. EDIT: Looking at it again, there are a lot of elements in Leviathan that also get touched on in beast, but are portrayed in a much less rosy light. Both are ancient gribblies from the Epoch Primordial, but Leviathan doubles down on how the world's moved on from them, how they're living relics, stagnating. Beasts? No, they still are needed by humanity, their lessons are still relevant! The Leviathan's version of Beasts' 'everyone likes me' aura is The Wake, which is inverted: Instead of making supernaturals love you (Canadian Vampire Girlfriend) and this being treated as something natural, born of deep instinctual kinship, The Wake is deeply unnatural and mortals to worship and fear the Leviathan. In effect, it's not so much a wonderful boon as reverse Disquiet, something that dents the Leviathan's ability to relate to humanity. Mors Rattus posted:Hey, you know what would improve this thread? I've been reading Promethean and I found a tiny editing hiccup that annoyed me earlier. Early in a chapter, you're told you need 10 Roles completed to perform the New Dawn, and they mention that those roles can come from one role from all 10 Refinements, or 3 roles Each from 4 different Refinements, either being fine. However later when they describe actually performing the New Dawn ascension, if you roll on in with the latter, your new Human form is going to have the 'Broken' condition permanently and be a shattered wreck of a human being who's wracked with nightmares and has terrible amnesia. It's a very annoying (and unintentional) 'Gotcha!', if you don't read ahead/read carefully, since you have to pick the 10 Roles you take before beginning play and aren't supposed to be changed.
