Literally 99% of this is actually kinda interesting.

The 1% is the "half button press." gently caress that, gently caress him. It's stupid.

a button press counting system that accounts for both a single star run and a full game run seems pretty solid to me

My big complaint, well actually it makes the video better but with the actual theory, is I thought he was going to reveal some wild poo poo about how a N64 controller's buttons work in SM64 kind of like holding the analog stick forward when turning on an N64 to calibrate the neutral position and then being able to move faster in Doom 64, or something.

did you know pro marble blast ultra players sand down the area around the stick on their 360 controllers to push the sticks further

Since there is only one star that uses a Goomba ladder in the any% run, and one a press left, it's possible that some time next year (if he can solve the fire sea pole) Pannenkoek will put together a loving monumental 40 hour (or whatever it is) real time video of him beating SM64 with 0 a presses and without having to fast forward except for that one star. I would watch that whole thing probably

this is when commentary will return

I'm throwing a new hot fresh idea into the .5x press debate.

You have to let go of A before collecting the star, or else it's only considered a one-third-press. If you hold A for consecutive levels, divide again. Now take every viable fraction of A press and abbreviate them for easy memorization.

gently caress off. Theres no debate

I think what's so great about this particular video is pannen made videos about both of the big new tricks years ago as possibilities that couldn't be figured out at the time. But they never give up on anything and people finally found out how to make both of them feasible. It's such an awesome combination of so many different pieces of information compiled and experimented on over several years.

I love this project

when that one tech showed up in the wii vc version of the bowser level platform slowly bouncing higher and higher i cynically thought "wii vc doesnt matter what are you doing" but then immediately going forward pannen started including that information in his videos, no judgement, just more important info
