I know, but I think it was the same when I messed up in the past. I'm often multitasking when I read these small promos. And if it's your first time doing it you might not immediately parse the difference between getting the code from Humble and Redeeming the code on Steam.

When I buy a normal bundle from humble I don't redeem games immediately unless I'm planning on playing right away because I might want to give some of them away as gifts or something. Used to buy all my steam sale discounts (you know, when $30 games are 5 bucks) as gifts for the same reason, but they make you send them to someone right away now.

They've reset my password twice because of suspicious logins on my Epic games account. I only made the account for free Subnautica which I doubt I'd get around to playing any time soon, so I don't think I'm going to bother with their service unless they start giving away games that normally cost a lot more.

Of course it's a ploy to get people to sign up for their launcher, they would rather however much money Valve got from Skyrim went to them for Elder Scrolls 6. It's why Epic has been doing free games. The difference is that you can actually download the games from Epic.

Arkham Knight is also the free game on PS+ this month, so I think Warner or the publisher just doesn't care about royalties for it at the moment.

So I beat Arkham Asylum last night and moved on to Arkham Knight.

It looks better, there are definite QoL improvements (like being able to grapple while gliding), and having other characters to play is an upgrade.

But it does feel a bit aimless, oddly. And I'm still not a huge fan of the combo mechanic though it's satisfying when it works. "Oh, you missed for no reason? Start over." "Oh, the game didn't register you were going for a ground takedown? lol aim with your batarang, start over." To be fair, this was an issue in Asylum as well and I'm not sure there's a good solution on keyboard-adapted-from-console-gameplay.

Going to have another go at it while more sober.

You should play City before Knight.

even if city was a direct copy paste with no QoL it would be better if for no other reason than the collectibles are less obnoxious. asylum had that really weird duality where you wanted to get the collectibles, especially riddler trophies, as early as humanly possible because the XP was super helpful, especially if you were playing on Hard. however, it was never exactly clear what precisely you needed to get a specific trophy, or if you were just bad at the game and missing the jump or whatever.

in City you could arrive on the scene and see one of those moronic rube goldberg machines that Riddler sets up and immediately be like "oh, ok, i need some upgrade for this" and peace out without wasting five minutes trying some bullshit.

Ehh, I didn't ignore the collectible poo poo in Asylum, but if I couldn't solve the puzzle in a reasonable amount of time I moved on thinking "I'll come back" most of the time I didn't come back. Didn't have a ton of problems getting through it. I played on Normal though.

I'm conflicted on Epic paying for exclusives, on one hand it's blocking competition but on the other hand what competition is there when Steam is a de-facto monopoly that 99% of PC gamers will default to no matter what, even if the game is cheaper on another launcher, or available DRM-free on GOG, or the Steam version is just a shim that launches the game on another launcher (e.g. Ubisoft games).

Steam is simply too entrenched for a new store to get any traction naturally, even if a store launched with 1:1 feature parity to Steam people still wouldn't use it because their existing library is on Steam, their friends are on Steam, the Steam workshop has more content, the Steam discussion boards and guides are more populated, etc, etc. Throwing money around like Epic and Microsoft are with gamepass is the only way they're going to get their foot in the door and maybe get some organic non-subsidised traffic once people have been coaxed into installing their launcher and making an account by all the subsidised stuff.

Epic does need to dump more resources into actually improving their launcher though. I can live without most of the stuff Steam has but come on, at least add achievement tracking

Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo all have console exclusive games, even beyond the ones made by their internal studios, at least when Epic gets an exclusive game I don't have to buy a $300 system to play it.

Syndicate's the one set in Dickensian London, right? It's pretty good, the grappling hook is fun, even if it does basically eliminate most of the climbing.

If I remember correctly Unity made them realize it was bad business to be churning them out so quickly (as in costing them money), so they took their time a bit more with Syndicate while I assume another team built the new engine that they used for Origins and Odyssey.

You could take that story in so many interesting directions, and Unity threw them all out of the window as soon as it got the chance.

Play Syndicate, though, because it rules.

I never played Unity (because I read a couple reviews), but what the gently caress?

My favorite part of Syndicate was slowly stalking through child sweatshops, murdering all the adults, then liberating the children.

If you like it enough you want to keep playing after the weekend, and especially if you're the type who tries to do most of the side quests, just get the base game, there's hundreds of hours of content, easily.

Cat Quest is free on Android and iOS, I know there was some debate about phone games being here, but I think that's silly, it's not a gatcha and it's also a console port, just those versions aren't currently free.

One of this week's free games is Amnesia Dark Descent, that game is a decade old and wasn't AAA at release. There are probably a ton of people in precarious financial situations who still have a laptop that could run it and might want a free video game while the world is on lockdown.
