It was at the advance screening of Asylum of the Daleks in New York, there were at least 1000 people there, myself included. There was a collective gasp when she showed on screen. After the show, Matt Smith very politely asked us not to say anything. Amazingly, it Nefertiti leaked out.

So I picked up the Two Master trilogy from Big Finish using the $2-off-each coupon code that they were running...and I just finished up the 5th Doctor story And You Will Obey Me. I don't have a long review to post...but overall I was kinda underwhelmed. Excellent concept, enough material for a two or three parter, stretched into a four part story.

Yeah, I got the same feeling. It seemed like episode 2 was entirely unnecessary. It would have been a solid three parter though.

Finished up Vampire of the Mind this morning. While I think some of the setup of episodes 1 and 2 could have been trimmed down a bit, I was much happier with the pacing of this one than I was with And You Will Obey Me. The 'journey' of the story was just twisty and turney enough to engage me through the setup stuff.

Has anyone here ever experienced a Big Finish order 404ing out at the Order Complete stage and not having a confirmation email, an order number, or download access to the stories; but the charge still hit my credit card?

I decided to fill out my collection of 6th Doctor/Charley stuff, but something in my order failed. I tried to email Big Finish, but emails to both sales@bigfinish and enquiries@bigfinish bounced back as undeliverable. I shot them a Facebook message, but it's like 11pm in the UK right now so I doubt they have a social media manager on duty.

Never had any issues before, sorry to hear that - bit unsettling that their emails aren't working but I'm sure once you make contact they'll get it sorted, especially as you can show that you were charged.

Yeah, I'm not worried...I just want my audio story fix. I've got the shakes of withdrawal!

That and the whole time difference thing. I emailed before close of business my time...I had briefly forgotten that BF was based out of the UK.

EDIT: Update; all is well. My audio stories arrived. I still don't have a confirmation e-mail or order number....but oh well, it seems to be okay now!

EDIT2: Although I did just learn I have to go to the Bonus Releases section and snag Return of the Krotons to complete my collection.

EDIT3: Buying Return of the Krotons gave me the same 404 error and no story immediately available. I think that site maintenance is 100% to blame.

With Big Finish now being able to use everybody up through Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman...what are the odds of new series companions showing up for Short Trips or Companion Chronicles releases?

I know some of them (Arthur Darvill comes to mind) have worked with Big Finish before, so I wonder who'd be up for coming back for a short story or two.

Took a break from Doctor Who-verse Big Finish to start on The Prisoner today.

I just listened to the first 20 minutes or so on the way home. The New Number 2 6 sounds dead on like McGoohan, which is great. Not so great--the lack of the original theme. Really, BF? You get the theme songs for ever version of Doctor Who, for Blake's 7 and Dark Shadows, but you can't get one of the most iconic parts of The Prisoner--the opening music? LAME.

It could be they couldn't get the rights to the theme music. Sounds odd, but the reason they used the Troughton/Pertwee/Baker theme for all the Doctors on the first 39 releases is they had to negotiate and pay royalties to the people who did the themes for Davison/Colin/McCoy.

Reading the book on the making of the McGann TV movie, producer Phillip Segal was horrified to discover that despite having the rights to the show, he had to negotiate a separate deal to use the theme tune. The movie almost didn't have the theme until he was able to get more money to pay for it.

A worried pug.
The whole "Who rights" thing lead to a lot of those weird little projects during the wilderness years; stuff like proto Big Finish, BBV stories - where (actual) K9 travels with Lalla Ward's "Mistress", but can never call her by name, or (actual) UNIT engaging with the (actual) Autons but can't refer to anything else, the totally-emphatically-NOT-the-Cybermen-BBC-we-promise "Cyberons"

Or the (actual) sex Zygons. Or those incredibly-thinly veiled Sixth Doctor and Peri stories, but with him dressed as a space hobo, and the so thinly-veiled Seventh Doctor and Ace audios (the characters, played by McCoy and Aldred were literally called "The Professor" and "Ace" respectively) - so much so the BBC apparently put their foot down on the latter.

Then there's the weirdness of Bernice Summerfield who sorta covers the gap - she's the Doctor's companion for a chunk of the Virgin New Adventures, then they lost the licence to Who, so carry on with her as the main character for a number of books. Big Finish starts up, and uses her to showcase their work to the BBC to get the licence for making Who stories. Get the green light for Who, and bridge across Benny, Ace and the Doctor a short while after.

So the response was to change it to The Professor and Ace Alice

And didn't the Sixth Doctor whatever they called him gently caress Peri in one of those stories?

Was listening to the extras from the first Jago and Litefoot series and they were talking to Lisa Bowerman who casually mentioned she's been play Bennie for 11 years--that was as of 2010. So BF has been doing Bennie stories far longer than the Virgin books did!

That's how I've felt about a lot of the FDA/4DA (Have we picked a standard acronym? Neither seems to flow as well as the "EDA" one for 8th) stuff. I'll be listening along saying to myself 'yeah....this is alright, I suppose' and then it just suddenly gets great.
