Adder Moray posted:Meanwhile, how many brilliant inventors have there been in the history of the world that barely anyone can remember because the things they made weren't paradigm shifts. If anyone wants to hear about these kinds of things, I reccommend How We Got to Now, either the book or the PBS series. Haven't read the book yet, but the series is sorta like Connections but with a focus on a specific kind of technology rather than an unbroken chain of innovation. An episode on light (from early attempts at lightbulbs to neon to fiber-optics), one on cold (why refrigeration is such a big deal), et cetera. It points out some people who are forgotten by history because they had the right idea at the wrong time, or identified the problem but the tools to solve it wouldn't be along for 50 years. Fascinating stuff.

Savage's threat, aside from skills he's picked up over multiple lifetimes, is patience. You can stop him today but he'll be back tomorrow, or better yet he'll be somewhere else tomorrow and you won't know until it's too late. Bury him in an avalanche, drop him in a volcano, it's only a matter of time. That's kinda hard to convey in a 2-hour episode.

The opening murder scene DID have a "coward like your father" line, which could be a random taunt about him not being there but takes a new context with all this time-hopping.

There are little bits, like in Russia "Ah, Gareeb." "That's Captain Hunter to you!" he gave a little "I'll remember that" smirk, but we don't get a chance to see things like that pay off. Yet anyway. Since the Legends are the ones doing the hunting the show can't really use the main benefit of an immortal enemy: he just keeps coming.

How about the part where he actually said "usually this is lethal, but I've adjusted it so it should just hurt a lot." That pretty much answers why Stein survived it. Did nobody else get that line in their version of the episode?
